Dark/dark build

I have a dark/dark defender up to level 10, and as I have too much time on my hands at work right now, I thought I'd see if I'm heading in the right direction with her. Here's what I have in the hero planner right now:

---------------------------------------------
Name: Dawntreader

01) --> Brawl==> Empty(1)
01) --> Vigilance==> Empty(1)
02) --> Rest==> Empty(2)
01) --> Power Slide==> Empty(1)
---------------------------------------------

A few notes/questions:
- This is mainly a teamy build. I like me some supporty.
- I've left the fitness pool until the 20s, mostly because I'm not sure yet if I'll need it (and it's a pool that I prefer to skip if I can). I'm not having any end problems yet, but she is only lvl 10 - can anyone tell me if it gets end-heavy in the mid levels (late teens/early 20s)? I don't know if I should try to fit it in earlier or not.
- I'd like to take Assault and Tactics earlier, but I'm not sure where to put them in yet, mostly because the dark powers look too damn yummy to delay. I am pondering shifting Shadow Fall until later, to shuffle the fitness and leadership pools in earlier, but that'll move it to lvl 41. Hmn. Suggestions welcome!
- The Dark Servant is slotted pretty much randomly. I have no idea what this fella does and what's worth beefing up on 'im. Help?
- I left out Black Hole, mostly because I understand that intangibility powers are a pain in teams, and therefore it's unlikely to be used much. And I hear that Life Drain sucks in more ways than one, so I haven't bothered with that either.

That's all I can think of to ask right now. Thanks in advance!

EDIT: Changed thread title due to censoring. Dude. O.O

I would go with an acc and 3 Tohit Debuff and whatever takes your fancy in the last 2 slots

Probably best putting a recharge in twilight grasp instead of tohitdebuff. Darkest night will do your debuffing for you and there may be times you need grasp up a bit quicker.

Put 3 recharges in tar patch before slows. To be honest you don't need any slows in it at all. Tentacles does a good job at keep the mobs in place on your tar patch. Theres 2 slots there you can put in your attacks maybe?

Moonbeam, not sure about slotting attack powers for tohitdebuffs. They offer a very minimal debuff which you really don't get alot out of by enhancing. I'd say its much better going with more dmg or accuracy. And, again, darkest night is there to do your debuffing.

I'd consider swapping around tar patch and darkest night. Tar patch is very good for the -res but only really starts to shine once 3 recharge SO's are slotted and its up for every battle. As long as both are taken early its not a bad build, I would just recommend taking DN first.

Dark pit really isnt a great power. Only mag 1 disorient so it'll only disorient minions. It has very bad accuracy and short duration. I'd recommend skipping it (or if you do take it, it really needs 6 slotting to be effective) and getting fearsome stare at lvl 12.

Tentacles I guess is really down to preference, personally I've always gone for dmg as I have other powers for debuffing but there is nothing wrong with slotting for debuffs.

Fearsome stare as mentioned earlier I'd take at 12, also swap a debuff for a 2nd recharge, 1 acc, 2 fear, 2 recharge 1 debuff would be better imo.

By skipping dark pit and taking FS earlier you can get stamina at 24 instead of 26. If you want it even earlier you could always put shadowfall back. The dmg it protects against doesnt really become too common until after lvl 20.

Petrifying gaze i'd put at least 1 recharge in so you can stack it, ideally at least 1 acc, 2 hold 2 recharge.

Torrent, I woudln't recommend it. Yes its good for getting things out of melee range but you may aswell just immob them with tentacles and back up a bit. Also with torrent theres a chance you'll knock things out of your tar patch which isnt a good idea.

Get nightfall instead. Your 3 cone attacks, fearsome stare, tentacles and nightfall, work very well together.

dark servant can be slotted a number of ways really. I go with 1 acc, 1 heal, 1 hold and 2 to hit debuff. It depends what you want him to do, i.e. you can make him a heal bot and slot 3 heal enhs etc. I'd really recommend putting 2 or 3 tohit debuffs in him though. He has a power called chill of the night which is a debuff aura similar to darkest night. Teleport him into the middle of a mob with darkest night on them and they'll have a very hard time hitting you.

Personally I couldn't cope without stamina and really needed it by lvl 22 so the earlier you can get it the better imo. You are right in leaving out black hole and life drain.

I agree with every point Tufty makes there.

Whether this is more worrying for him or me, I cannot say.

I consider it an honour that an experianced D3 such as yourself agree's with me

Given the fact that I generally describe myself as the worst defender I know because I'm just a gimped blaster, probably means you should be worrying

Yup, its all pretty good advice.

I would add one further point that if you get Nightfall, a range enhancer will give it a similar cone and range as TT which is handy (but not essential).

Wow, great replies, thanks!

I've rejiggled things about a bit, and ended up with this:

---------------------------------------------
Name: Dawntreader
Level: 50
Archetype: Defender
Primary: Dark Miasma
Secondary: Dark Blast
---------------------------------------------
01) --> Twilight Grasp==> Acc(1) Acc(3) Heal(3) Heal(5) Heal(5) Rechg(7)
01) --> Dark Blast==> Acc(1) Dmg(7)
02) --> Tar Patch==> Rechg(2) Rechg(9) Rechg(9)
04) --> Moonbeam==> Acc(4) Dmg(11) Dmg(11) IntRdx(13)
06) --> Recall Friend==> EndRdx(6)
08) --> Howling Twilight==> EndRdx(8) DisDur(13)
10) --> Darkest Night==> EndRdx(10) TH_DeBuf(15) TH_DeBuf(15) TH_DeBuf(17) EndRdx(17)
12) --> Fearsome Stare==> Acc(12) Fear(19) Fear(19) Rechg(21) Rechg(21) TH_DeBuf(23)
14) --> Teleport==> EndRdx(14) Range(23)
16) --> Tenebrous Tentacles==> Acc(16) Dmg(25) Dmg(25) Dmg(27) Immob(27) Immob(29)
18) --> Swift==> Run(18)
20) --> Health==> Heal(20)
22) --> Petrifying Gaze==> Acc(22) Hold(29) Hold(31) Hold(31) Rechg(31) Rechg(43)
24) --> Stamina==> EndMod(24) EndMod(33) EndMod(33)
26) --> Shadow Fall==> EndRdx(26) EndRdx(33) DmgRes(34) DmgRes(34) DmgRes(34)
28) --> Assault==> EndRdx(28)
30) --> Tactics==> EndRdx(30) TH_Buf(36) TH_Buf(36) TH_Buf(36)
32) --> Dark Servant==> Acc(32) TH_DeBuf(37) TH_DeBuf(37) TH_DeBuf(37) Heal(39) Hold(39)
35) --> Night Fall==> Acc(35) Dmg(39) Dmg(43) Range(46)
38) --> Blackstar==> Acc(38) Dmg(40) Dmg(40) Dmg(40) Rechg(42) TH_DeBuf(42)
41) --> Hasten==> Rechg(41) Rechg(42) Rechg(43)
44) --> Dark Consumption==> Acc(44) EndMod(45) EndMod(45) Rechg(45) Rechg(46) Rechg(46)
47) --> Dark Embrace==> EndRdx(47) EndRdx(48) DmgRes(48) DmgRes(48) DmgRes(50)
49) --> Soul Drain==> Acc(49) Rechg(50) Rechg(50)
---------------------------------------------
01) --> Sprint==> Empty(1)
01) --> Brawl==> Empty(1)
01) --> Vigilance==> Empty(1)
02) --> Rest==> Empty(2)
---------------------------------------------

I wound up with a hole at lvl 41, so I figured I'd give Hasten a whirl. Any suggestions for anything different/better?

The character is level 10, so I already have both Tar Patch and Darkest Night. I've just added enh slots in random order, so ignore the levels on them.

According to the hero planner, the Dark Servant gets a 100% accuracy bonus. Is this right? Is it worth slotting it for accuracy on top of that?

Anyway. Hope that's looking better now.

Are you sure it's not the other way round? I've got a range/damage HO in TT, and that seems to bump it up to near nightfall range, which as you say is very useful.

This is almost my Thelema's build, only she's hovery-blastery rather than ultra-team-friendly-teleportey like your build. I'm toying with respeccing Moonbeam out in favour of Gloom so I can have a more constant attack chain up (Moonbeam's a great attack, but the anima's too long for the tempo of the character - OTOH, lacking your tp friend, Moonbeam makes my only means of getting mobs into range of HT for rezzing).

I've been convinced by the big DDD guide on the US boards that it makes good sense to slot Fluffy with at least 1 Acc + 3 THDBF, so the -acc component of all his attacks (and aura) stack.

I've just had a bit of a jag with my DDD and I must say it's great fun to play - I like being support, and I've tried Controllers a lot, but while I love having Control powers, I like blasting too, so this combination's great for me.

What I'm looking forward to is using Soul Drain as a precursor to Blackstar (after a good whittling down with a few rounds of Tentacles-Nightfall, of course, all bubbling along nicely in a big, sticky old Tar Patch :-) )

ATM am really getting into the Disorient powers Dark Pit and HT-as-Disorient. Figuring out how to try and get a HT/DP combo - which first, whether or how to "prepare the ground" for it (this differing in team and solo contexts).

Can't see anything wrong with that now. Does seem very different to my build cos I've gone down the more offensive route. Only one thing which you may want to consider is that with stamina you should be able to get by with only 1 end rdx in your toggles (DN, SF) so if you wanted to free up more slots for your attacks then you coul swap those around, also only having 1 immob and 2 hold in PG will free up more slots. But its really down to personal preferance, if you want a more defensive support build you're fine with what you;ve got there. As I've said though, I've gone for a more offensive build so all my attacks are slotted with 3 dmg. I'm on Union server if you need any help, demonstration of powers etc. I'd be happy to help out (@Tufty )

Ohh, Dark Miasma. God loved that set!

I have a dark/elec which was so juicy that it was really the only toon that could make me stray me from my troller fetish and take to 50.
It's evidently a very dif build, also seeing i skipped the fitness pool (begging for cabs all the way and slotting some more end redux, so i could work it out very well most of times) and took assault+tactics+vengeance instead. These powers very much suiting any def imo. You have it too

Few thoughts:
-Fluffy as mentioned before, is your own personal super debuff pet. I'm just as convinced as Blue Yin; 1 accu and 3 to hit debuff makes him most efficient. The debuff applies to all the debuffing she does. Just TP her near the mobs you want to her debuff with her lovely aura as tufty mentioned. More slots aren't really necessary and probably better spend elsewhere. But if you want slap some heals in when you have slots to spare. Her hold is so short that enhancing it will only make a very little difference imo.

-Shadowfall is a brilliant power. Try getting it asap, lvl 26 seems a bit late. Also you might consider taking ss as travel because ss + shadowfall stacks the stealth components of both powers to make you invis invis and with tp friend you can stealth (complete teams) through missions now.

-As dead calm said indeed a range in tentacles makes it a much better combo with nightfall because it enhances range + cone range to be more in accordance with nightfall.

-put in 2 accu in fearsome stare and p.gaze untill you have tactics and then reducing it to 1 accu again. You really want that stuff to hit.

Have fun!

Wow. Great advice! I've fiddled with the build some more, and I think I've got something reasonable now. Thanks, guys! Got Dawntreader up to lvl 12 today, so she's poddling along nicely.

You guys rule.
