Ok, I decided it was time to add a little to Veskit's life after his return to the lab which resulted in a rather large KABOOM!! a while ago. A number of people asked if the professor would take this action lying down, or if he'd get a little annoyed etc. Once again, any advice will be appreciated (looking mainly in Wordy's direction, as his comments were rather helpful last time) thanks in advance to anyone with nothing better to do than read my post work ramblings, and i hope you enjoy.

“Leave us alone! Someone, anyone, HELP!”

The scream rang out loud and clear in the quiet night, finally reaching the ears of Veskit as he soured through the sky over Talos Island. His technologically enhanced senses pin-pointing the source of the disturbance, and with all the speed he could muster he rushed to the aid of the caller.

Below he could see a lone young woman surrounded by a large group of Freakshow goons, chuckling to himself as he worked out a plan of attack and put it into action. Dropping out of the sky onto the head of the thug nearest the girl and grinning wolfishly as his claws burst forth, glinting menacingly in the moonlight, visibly scaring the mob.

“Looks like you guys have heard of me, that’s a good start, guess it means you’ll know I’m not messing around when I say that the last of you to turn and run is going home in parts. Very small parts.”

Suddenly a strange shimmering field surged into existence around Veskit, and a quiet applause could be made out over the mocking calls of the jeering Freakshow. And then a familiar voice spoke out in an overly reasonable tone.

“I’ve got an offer for you Veskit, I think you should hear me out before trying anything foolish this time.”

“Sialas? What the hell are you doing here?” Veskit was a little concerned now, the return of Sialas Campbell was not a good sign.

“Well, after your little stunt at the lab did you really think I’d just walk away from my life’s work? How terribly naive”

“Not at all, but I thought you intelligent enough to realise I won’t be coming back, and I’m sure you’ve gotten bored of finding bits of bounty hunter in you mail by now.”

“Well that’s where my offer comes in handy my boy. How about a trade of sorts? You come with me, and the girl lives, refuse and I’m sure these guys can think of something rather unpleasant to do to her. The ball’s in your court as the saying goes, but hurry, I’m not sure how long they are willing to wait.” Campbell sneered with a slight nod to the thugs

“How about I just come over there and dismantle the lot of you, then take the young girl to safety? That option is sounding a whole lot more fun right about now.”

“Not a chance, that field has you trapped, the only way out is with me, 24 hours of your time isn’t too much to ask now is it? In exchange for the life of an innocent? After that, I’m gone for good, you have my word.”

“Ok, but only if she gets safe passage to Galaxy City, and I get to give her something to pass on for me, call it a test of faith.”

“Of course, I didn’t want to go to this kind of extreme but you left me no choice. Sort out your little details and we’ll be off, the girl will be teleported to the train station in Galaxy when she’s ready, “ then turning to the girl Campbell motioned for her to step closer to the field and the trapped man inside, “Don’t worry dear, you’ll be perfectly safe, I mean you no harm, and I apologise for the treatment you received during all this, I truly am.”

The girl nodded and walked to Veskit, desperately trying to avoid his eye’s, and hugging a tiny cat to her chest like her life depended on not dropping it “We’re sorry this happened because you tried to save us, if there’s anything we can do to make it up to you when we get to Galaxy City just ask, we owe you that much at least”

Veskit just smiled slightly and pulled a small communication device from his belt and pressed a few buttons, “Ok, when you get to the station, hit the green key here, and tell the person that Veskit told you to seek them out, when you meet, tell them everything that happened here, and that I might be a little late back into town” Then looking to Sialas he nodded, “lets get this over with, she’s ready to go, and so am I”

Yet more post-work writing (12 and a 1/2 hours a night is too much time to think IMHO)

This is the second part of the piece, (which was mainly written to allow me to introduce a new toon to GG and explain Ves's recent costume alterations as they are a little more drastic that a new pair of pants)

Part 2

After the girl had vanished in a flash of light, Sialas had hit a few buttons on his wrist mounted teleportation device, suddenly the dark of the streets had exploded in a blinding flash, and feeling a sharp pull in his gut Veskit had the most bizarre sensation of travelling extremely fast, yet without actually moving. As rapidly as it had started the pull stopped, the light dimmed and he found himself in a large steel walled room, it reminded him of the cargo ship that he’d visited while assisting one of his contacts back in the city, only this one was in a bit of a state.
The walls, ceiling and floor were scarred with the marks of massive amounts of combat, bullet holes and laser burns were scattered all over, mixed here and there with fist marks, gashes from blades of all kinds, and large blackened areas, probably from fire damage. There were even a few dents that looked like they could have been made by a humanoid shaped object being slammed into them rather hard, and from the blood stained areas of the floor it most likely was.
This looked like a dangerous place to be, so he decided to run a few internal system warm-up routines, just in case, just because he was paranoid it didn’t mean they weren’t all out to get him. Why take that risk?

From nowhere and yet everywhere at once, Campbell‘s voice spoke out to him “Welcome to the Rogue Isles Veskit, I’d expect you to like it here, survival of the fittest seems the only rule here. Speaking of which, I think it’s time to explain what I need you to do for me.” Sialas paused here to chuckle to himself, evidently enjoying his clever little scheme, “The problem with the Veskit nanotech system is the need for a human operator, it leads to unpredictable behaviour, as you so kindly demonstrated. However, pure robotics, now there is beauty in simplicity, they only do as they are told, never suffer any of the human weaknesses like fear, remorse, guilt, pain, fatigue, I could go on, the list is almost endless but suffice to say I went back to the “old school” line of thought, faster, stronger and tougher machines built for the sole purpose of combat. At this point I’d like to introduce you to my newest project, Niloc 6. Do say hello won’t you?”

He spun round and watched a section of the wall slide away long enough to allow the strange machine through, a little larger than Veskit, but still not all that big, he’d fought bigger. He’d almost started to twitch with anticipation of what he knew was coming next when the voice started again, “All I want you to do is fight it, simple really, I wish to pit my greatest creations against each other, you are the only person I can think of that could push it to it’s maximum potential, and I need to know just how good it is before I can start production of a lot more of them for the mass market. And now, let the games begin!”

The thing had started running at him as soon as the voice finished, a single blade erupting from each hand in a similar manner to Veskit’s claws, and then it was on him, arms moving so fast they blurred. Veskit unleashed his own claws and began to skilfully dodge everything the machine could throw at him, then with a smile scarily similar to the one a Great White Shark gives it’s prey before dinner, he swung both of his arms in a pair of crossed arcs, followed by a savage horizontal swipe at it’s head. Then he stepped back and retracted his claws.

The robots arms lay on the ground, several feet away, and it’s head was now in quite a few slices scattered around it’s feet, and with comical slowness the body lent back and toppled. “Not very impressed to be honest, I expected a little more of a work out from you Prof.” then he spun, claws out and stared in amazement at the thing on the floor, which had connected all it’s separate parts with what looked like red lightening and was pulling itself back together again. Within a matter of seconds it was standing again, ready for combat again. This time it was Sialas who spoke out, struggling to finish his sentence for laughing hysterically “Seconds out, round two!”

That had been seven hours ago, Veskit had lost count of how many rounds there had been since, but he knew one thing for damned sure, he was in trouble, really big trouble. He’d added several new wall dents, some of the robot, mostly of him, and the cleaners would have a fit when they come to clear the blood up. God he’d lost a lot of blood today, at first the cuts and thrusts were nothing to worry about, his nanotech fixing him up almost instantly, but now, he was leaning against a wall for support as he tried to get his breathing under control, wounded from head to foot, mostly they caused nothing more than a distraction, his nanotech blocking the pain and stopping the bleeding, but it was beginning to take longer now, and some of the really nasty ones had started to take their toll. The robot just got up each time, as ready as it had been the first time, and it was starting to annoy Veskit a little.
As it stood up and charged again, Veskit pushed himself off the wall with a slight wince, and turned to face it, again. As before it fired off a rapid combination of swipes and jabs, but this time many of them landed, nothing too bad, but that was more work his body could do without. Suddenly the robot smashed him in the face with a fist, stunning him mid counter attack, and then swung a claw upwards in a vicious uppercut.

Veskit spotted it and tried to spin out of the way, but he was running on empty and wasn’t quick enough. The claw missed his body by the most miniscule of distances, but it’s upward swing sliced straight through his arm at the shoulder, severing it in one brutal attack.
For a few seconds blood poured to the floor, before the nanotech halted the flow and started the healing process, although extremely slowly compared to it’s usual performance, this was going to take days, not hours.
All of a sudden, Niloc 6 stepped back, retracted it’s claws, and turned walking away, passing Sialas as he entered the room using the secret door which sealed behind him. He strode up to Veskit as he kneeled on the floor, pale in the face from shock and blood loss, even shaking a little as adrenalin pumped through his broken and exhausted body.

“So the might Veskit can be dragged down by a mere machine, your reputation is rather exaggerated in my opinion, although your stamina is to be commended, seven hours is a new record, the previous was only four, I guess the healing system is working almost flat out to keep you alive, not too sure if it can handle all that damage for quite some time.” then smiling nastily he pulled a pistol from his belt and pointed it at Veskit’s head, “Lets see how long it takes you to recover from this, this could all have been avoided if you’d stayed on for the lab, but no, you had to be all heroic and destroy the place, my life was destroyed that night, now I going to destroy yours.” With that he pulled the trigger, the bullet hitting Veskit in the eye, knocking him backwards, dead before he hit the floor.

The Professor turned and started walking away, but froze in fear as something illuminated the room from behind, turning he saw Veskit getting to his feet, but this time his armour was activated, glowing with an energy shield.

“Veskit? You can’t be alive, I killed you!” he screamed, firing the pistol at the person before him, every shot hitting it’s mark, yet none of them slowed the things advance.
Then it spoke, a cold inhuman voice, without emotion or any change in tone, “Operator temporarily deactivated for repairs. Defence mode active. Primary directive, protect operator. Hostile entity detected, initiate target neutralisation.” Within seconds it’s claws had emerged, and then it leapt.

Nice! I like it very much, reminds me of something I did once, so it must be good .
