This isn't a discussion about the buffing nature of empaths in higher levels, it was merely a question asking people if they have these badges. no need to get so angry about it. I love the empathy powerset (have all empathy powers), and if someone asks i say I'm an Empath, not a healer. it was a simple question asking if people knew anyone with these badges.

Sorry mate but i'd say that empath is primerily a healer first and buffer second.
The other primaries in the defender have more buffs and empath has more heals.
Yes we have some good buffs but only a couple, primerily we're healers.

Sorry if I seemed to be harsh, that was not on purpose. This post was one of many posts to remind empathy defenders that they are primary buffers and not healers. It wasn't directly against you, sorry if it appeared to be.
Venture, we, empathy defenders, have the most healing abilities amongst the other defenders. That's why we can turn the tide of a battle going wrong, something other defenders can't do. But we're definitely buffers, our job is to buff, buff and buff again, and not at all to heal first, like you can find in other MMORPGs. And only kinetics is a best buffer than us. Other defenders are primary debuffers, sonic is on toe to toe with us but a little under I'd say (no endurance buff), bubbles far away.
I just insist on this point as I have only found so far between 5 to 10 empathy defenders on Vigilance (but it must be the same everywhere) who keep everyone buffed all the time as they should.
I don't know about other empaths, but i find that fort and AB are recharging 90% of the time when i'm teamed cos i always try to cast them on members of the team that need it. on small teams, CM is always on as well. If its a large team where keeping CM on everyone is hard if not impossible i try to make sure that any other support players (ie trollers and defs) always have CM. I'm well aware of the buffing side of empathy, i have been one for about 9 months now, this thread was a simple question about the healing badges, which anyone can get...

not wishing to derail this thread too much but:
Healing aura - Heal
Heal other - heal
Absorb pain - heal
rez - heal (well sorta)
cm - buff (tho the usefullness when not facing mezing or stunning foes is limited)
recovery aura - end (wouldnt really class it as a buff as such but i'd be willing to concede the point)
regen aura - heal (see above)
Fort - arguably the best buff ever
ab - combination of the ra's only effective on one person, generally use it on anyone whose missed a ra

If you consider something buffing your hp/end regen a heal, then I guess the auras and ABs are "heals". 
To me, the list goes :
HA: heal
HO: heal
AB: heal
Rez: buff/heal
Cm: buff (Btw, I don't know of any faction post-20 that hasn't any foe using status effects)
Fort: buff
Recov Aura: buff
Regen Aura: buff
AB: buff
And both of you forgot an important part :
(Whatever) secondary:
1st power : Single-target attack
2nd power : Single-target attack
3rd power : AoE attack or snipe
4th power : AoE, single-target attack or control power
5th power : AoE, single-target attack, snipe or Aim
6th power : AoE, single-target attack, snipe or Aim
7th power : AoE attack, snipe or control power
8th power : AoE attack, control, pet or self-heal attack
9th power : Nuke
So... if you want to go by "if most of the powers of some archetype are X type, then its role is X"... your emp/* defender is a blaster, really.

(And, as a way-too-late-edit, throw in repel to the powers kin can use as well, was underestimating it's value back then).
Im with the healer first guys on this one. Why only tonight I was in a double empath team qand we needed to heal fast and furious that buffs came in when we could fit them. Had we buffed first we would have been buffing corpses.
That said I do get annoyed at team members who seem to lack the understanding that a buff is going to increase chances of their survival than a heal they dont need so much.
Anyway back on point Im only level 25 with my empath so I cant see me having thst badge anytime soon.
Heyy, lets start another thread on the same heated subject. Ooops, it may be against some guideline or something.
Anyway, whether somebody is primarily a healer or primarily a buffer is up to their preference. There is nothing wrong or right in either case. Empath along with other ATs can be built to suit different tastes.
The main reason we get these heated discussions is when people start preaching that there is only one way to use an AT and it is my way blah blah. I dislike people who preach this way.
Plus the fact that several empath's seem to have neuroses of being called a 'healer'. You guys and gals need to get over it. Your buffs are appreciated nonetheless by those people who know better. Thank you.
Trying to get this thread back on track... my Empath doesn't have any of those badges. I got the third one not long before 50, and since then, I've mainly been playing other toons. Ah well, some day, perhaps. 
I did see someone wandering around with the Empath badge on Union, though! That was the first time I've seen it.
I have the badge Medical Specialist... can't imagine how many more hours I would have to play my empath to get the other ones!
Was quite pleased when I did get it tho!

I'm just wondering how many of you have any of these badges, or how many of you know people who have any of these. I've looked on CityInfoTerminal and the stats on there, and theres 15 people who claim to have Empath, and 16 who claim to have Medicine Man. (I'm the only one who has Medicine Man but not Empath.
). I've not seen any other defenders/trollers going around with Medicine Man as their badge title (i dunno about you lot, but i'm damn proud of having that badge. 
), and i've certainly not seen anyone with Empath....
