Gravity Sonic
I'd have thought Lift would be a handy Control tool... I've never really seen it in PvE but it's the shizzle in PvP.
World of Jackcraft.
Propel will be your main source of attack, and frustratiom such a long animation time for such a resisted damage type is a little silly in my eyes.
I find Lift quite handy. Okay, so the damage isn't great, but it does take the foe out of the fight for a good few seconds, you can (or you could, not sure if its changed) slot it with knockback for extra damage but without the annoyance of them actually being knocked back, the animation is quick and it allows you to activate some longer activation time holds while they sprawl on the ground.
Lift i find very usefull IMO. Can keep a target almost locked down.
Propel is cool, fun, and rubbish. Therefore you must take it.
Sonic Siphon from sonic set is a subtle but very useful power for taking down the big kills. People dont notice it but it really is a nifty lvl 1 power.
If you want to see forklift trucks, cars, computers, filling cabnets and such wizzing past your head into a mob the take propel
Currently working on my grav whos lvl 34 atm I'd say that (as stated by others) that you definately would want to take lift. It adds a little to gravs lacking of major control.
You would think that wormhole isn't that great and I wasn't planning on taking it at first but I must admit thats it's great power...especially after you get your sing. Place sing in a corner and worm foes into the corner behind the sing and just sit back and read the paper while the sing gets to work + it's a powerful pulling tool and have the handy disorient.
On a sidenote you can't beat the novelty of grav. Flinging sofas, cars, forklifts etc at baddies and toss em 100ft into the air
SingStar:
"Extremists LOVE to fish to get us annoyed so we break the forum rules."
CRACK68:
"The origin of life wasn't planned either, should all life be declared a bug and wiped out?"
Lionsbane:
"You know me.Ever the realist"
Maybe I can give you my feedback about the sonic set, but first please be nice with my english... I'm french
My earth/sonic controller is now 39.
-Sonic Siphon (-res): good power, increases your damages by 20%.
-Sonic Barrier & Sonic Haven: must haves. Base resistance is 20%, 3 res SO will provide approx 35% resistance to your friends. Very nice for PvE & PvP.
-Sonic Cage: did not take it. The target cannot be attaqued nor attack...
-Disruption Field: you will become tanks & scrappers best friend! approx -20% res on mobs in the effect area.
-Clarity: a very good anti mezz coupled with a perception bonus.
-Sonic Repulsion: did note take it
-Sonic Dispersion: awesome! increase resistance for you & your friends + protects against stun.
-Liquefy: quite good. Same effect as Earthquake from earth control set coupled with minor damages & a resistance debuff.
If you intend to perma use sonic dispersion + disruption field as I do, I recommend to take the fitness set to get stamina.
I am reallly happy with that secondary power set. Sonic is very good in PvE & has also lots of advantages for PvP. Last but not least, you will not meet so many heroes with Sonic set... Its good to feel different

I gather on grav that lift isn't all that hot, so shouldn't take that, and wormhole seems to have its detractors.

Lift is always useful, not for damage but the time the enemy is in the air is time he's not attacking. Wormhole I also find useful for its mass disorientate/quick getaway uses (it has HUGE range)
Slot gravity distortion field with 3 hold times, 2 accuracy and 1 recharge times

You're joking, right? I always found Wormhole to have incredibly short range, and I have 3 range SOs in mine!
It depends on what you define as range for Wormhole. To activate the power itself you have to be quite close but the range which you can teleport the mobs is quite large.
Right, thanks to all who gave advice on grav/arrow
I decided not to go with trick arrow due to the animation times of drawing a weapon (learned from AR)
Sonic seems to be very forcefieldy but as was made abundantly clear I know nothing about controlling So I'm not even going to TRY to make a build without advice first.

What powers are most handy in either of these two sets, it seems to be made to hold mobs and buff up melee fighters or those about to nuke...
my toon is only level 2 at the moment but I had fun in outbreak
any advice on slotting and relevant powers much apprecitated.
