"Where did you hear about this entrance?"

"When I worked in there Dialous used it to bring in ‘items’ for experimentation." replied Aeronaut, "Ones that he didn't want people to know about."

"What kind of ‘items’?" asked Doulos whilst sharpening a nasty looking combat knife.

"To be honest I have no idea, he didn't want me to know about it, and I really don’t want to know... I got the impression that the ‘items’ didn’t want to be there but I can't tell you much more than that".

Doulos’s mind ran wild, Aeronaut could only shrug at the look on his face, "Actually, I'd rather not know either." Doulos muttered, sheething his knife.

"Ok guys, I’ve scouted a bit," said Scapegoat dropping into the small channel they were hiding in. She scrunched up her nose in distaste at the aroma of the bog like mud before continuing. "The door is lightly guarded, just a handful, we might be able to draw them out into the open and snipe them, I don’t think we’ll get too much resistance."

Aero began to climb out of the creek, "Great, let’s get going then," he said, "we get in there, we get Dialous, we get out, easy as that."

Doulos and Scapegoat frowned at each other, "Whenever it’s this easy I worry." Muttered Doulos.

"Me too." added Scapegoat.

"What is wrong with you people, this is divine intervention, this is cosmic justice this is..."

"...Likely to be a trap." finished Scapegoat with a frown, "We rush in there, you won't get your revenge... we go in too fast and the only thing we will do is get ourselves captured"

"But if we go to slow then we lose the element of surprise." responded Aeronaut.

They both looked at Doulos who shugged, "You’re both right, if it is a trap going slowly will just give them more time to set it effectively. But if we rush in too fast we might trigger the trap without being in control of the situation."

"What’s the answer then soldier boy?" asked Scapegoat.

"Go fast with a low profile." Doulos pulled his combat knife out of his boot again, and flicked a small switch on his belt activating his cloaking device. The blurred area of air spoke, "County to fifty then follow me in."

Aeronaut counted quietly to 50, wondering as he did so how 'going fast but with a low profile' was in any way different to his idea... At 50, he and Scapegoat climbed out of the creek, or rather glided out, Aeronaut was amazed at his companions ability to fly without use of anything mechanical to aid her, and made their way to the small doorway hidden in the face of the rock. It swung open on silent hinges into the darkness and the two stepped in, glass cracked underfoot, presumably from the broken bulbs of the lights swinging empty above them. Three council soldiers lay on the floor motionless, blood seeping through their uniforms in various places, they noticed a fourth pinned to a wooden strut by his shoulder with the same heavy blade that they saw Doulos holding earlier, but of Doulos himself there was no sign. The injured men were soon teleported to the Ziggurat's medical facility. "How does that work down here ?" Aeronaut asked Scapegoat with a whisper, "You got me, I just hope they make it to the Zig, the council have a habit of patching into the teleportation system out here on Striga and we really could do without them finding out we are here before we are ready" Aeronaut wished he hadn't asked, this 'plan' of his has been getting more and more complicated since arriving on the island. 'Revenge isn't easy' he muttered quietly to himself, hoping too late that his helmet prevented Scapegoat from hearing him.

Scapegoat allowed energy to emote from her hands, a cold blue light cast dramatic shadows around the small atrium. Aeronaut shivered within his suit at the eeriness of the cave, pleased once more that his suit prevented any hint of his uneasiness from being noticed by his companion. Suddenly there was a thud off to their left. Scapegoat moved the light to eliminate the darkness in that direction they saw Doulos materialise beside the injured body of another soldier, wiping blood from a small the blade of a small switchblade.

“He ran, I caught him.” Said the soldierly hero walking over to where the soldier had been pinned to the wooden strut by his blade and wrenched the heavy blade out now that the soldier had been sent to the Ziggurat. Aeronaut muttered "A little much for a 'fast and low profile' approach isn't it?"

"We got in without setting of any alarms didn't we?" Aeronaut started to argue but Doulos cut him off by saying "I’m a hunter, it’s what I do."

"Doulos, you do know that according to the hero guidelines lethal force is never to be used except in the defence of an innocent life, appropriate force does not include shedding unnecessary blood."

Doulos looked at him, "They'll live, nothing I did here today broke the rules in that precious guidebook of yours"

"But…" continued Aeronaut, "Look, do you want this Dialous in the zig, or in the grave ?" Doulos Asked.

"In the grave.."Aeronaut admitted after a moment, hanging his head slightly in shame at the realisation of what that meant.

"I want them all in the grave, the difference is I am upfront about it. You need to realise what following this thing through to the end will mean, I hope when the time comes you are ready because it's coming sooner than you think." said Doulos matter of factly, the blue light cast by Scapegoats energy showed his eyes gleaming with anger. He unslung his assault rifle and set of into the darkness.

Aeronaut turned his head to look at Scapegoat but before he could ask she spoke quietly. "Don’t look at me, I agree with him. I'm here to stop you from getting yourself killed, not to preach to you about right and wrong, you have to work that out for yourself."

"So what makes me any different from them?"

“You ask yourself that question." Scapegoat sighed in resignation and started a prepared speech she had almost memorised recently after spending time with the newer members of the Precision Rangers, "You and Doulos are similar in that respect, he doesn't know what makes him so different to the people we fight either, I guess deep down none of us do, not really. I mean we all have something that makes us special, to stand out from the crowd, some skill or ability that the civilians don't have. Why do some people use their gifts to serve others and some to serve themselves?" Scapegoat started to walk in the direction Doulos had stalked off, motioning for Aeronaut to follow. "Doulos was an excellent soldier from what I know of him, which means he is trained to kill, and trained to do it very well. Does that mean he is no better than these Council soldiers?, sometimes I know he thinks so but that is his cross to bear, I can't tell you much but there is more to Doulos than it is my place to say, he didn't always leave the enemy breathing to be teleported to the Zig." Scapegoat Sighed once more and tried not to look at Aeronaut as she said "One day I hope he learns that heroism is about justice, not about judgement." Aeronaut followed her silently, taking in this new information and making his own choice, as she had recommended. "We all walk the line between right and wrong, every one of us, when does defence and protection become the violence we heroes are pledged to stop?" Scapegoat slowed her walk to spin round and touch Aeronauts arm, "I think the difference between 'us and them' is that we would die to save lives and they would kill to stay alive." no matter how many times she heard herself say that speech Scapegoat still cringed inwardly at it's self righteousness, It was written to bolster faith in it's listeners and it usually does the job. Scapegoat could only hope that beneath his armour, Aeronaut found the nugget of truth in what she had said.

Aeronaut nodded in thought as they moved on, there was more to being a hero than wearing a metal suit.

------------------------------------------------------------
Dialous's men waited outside the store room. It was called a store room by those who didn’t know the truth, if they knew the modifications Dialous had made to this room then even the most open of minded members of the high council would be 'displeased' with him to say the least. Dialous had taken great pains to ensure no one knew, and it irked him somewhat that he had to risk it's discovery Today. The air within the store room stank of stale blood.

"He will be here soon." Dialous said to himself as he removed a mask from a female tied to the wall. Blonde hair matted with blood sagged around a whitened face. "Your husband allowed you to die Mrs. Johnson, I trust you understand this, He will be here shortly."

The woman’s eyes shot open, bloodshot and red, she licked her lips, as she did the light glinted of fangs, "Oh yes," Dialous thought, "the suit will be mine."

Calling his men into the room Dialous ordered, "Defensive positions men, tie her in place here, at the centre of the room and make sure her head is hidden." With strict discipline the soldiers tied the ‘woman’ to a frame and found hiding places amongst the boxes and crates of the room.

Aeronaut counted quietly to 50, wondering how is going fast with a low profile different from my idea?
