fire/energy tank
I believe it is because it offers fire resistance which you get plenty off from the other powers and limited cold which there isn't enough off in the game to worry too much about.
Fire Shield - 30% base fire
Plasma Shield - 30% base fire
Temp Protect - 20% fire, 10% cold
Unless they up the cold it does look a bit like a dodo. The only upside is it is on all the time.
There simply isn't room in most fire builds as you need some form of knockback protection in either Acrobatics or Hover and Stamina is pretty much nesesary due to all of the toggles you will run, this combined with the Auras you have to take and some attacks leaves very little room for manuvere.
That and the power doesn't give much as the protections it offers are covered by other powers in the set.

I have a lvl 50 inv/ice tank and have just started a fire/energy tank because unlike most people i think tanks are great any advice on powers at all would be appreciated, i noticed a lot of fire tanks don't have temperature protection, any reason for this?

Yes, with fire and plasma shields it's only a waste of power... absolutely useless, believe me: without Temp Protection i destroyed Portal in Infernal mish soloing, with at least 30 demons + Infernal attacking me with ranged fire.... my hp were going down only after energy tranfer.
Imo, there r different builds for low and high lvls.
Ie: i used blazing aura a lot at low lvl but removed when i got Burn.
Now post I6, it's your choice to take burn or not. I removed it after I6, but can be useful if u team a lot with holders.... cause now foes tend to run away from fire. Many fire tankers decided to take blazing aura after I6.
What i really like is energy melee: energy transfer is the best attack in the game, except for crits (12.9 brawl index), and, with health (fitness) the hp lost are not a problem.
You'll be a dmg dealer tanker and not a 'pure' tanker with 2
extreme dmg power, 1 high dmg and a good AOE dmg, so going to do many attacks you need Consume to recover endurance.
With 1 acc and 1 end mod it works fine.
Finally, most attacks have very good chance to disorient foes (even bosses).
Final consideration for Total Focus: it's a great power (brawl index about 9 so not as energy transfer) but personally i don't like powers with slow animation and slow recharge, but it's up to your style of play.
Anyway: post I6, if u wanna tank decently, u need 'tough' from fighting pool (dont take boxing that is another disorient attack, u really don't need)
And, yes, as told by Dragon you need Acrobatics.
