Dark Melee/Super Reflexes

I recently made a DM/SR and I love it (my first SR scrapper ever). I find that the -to hit debuff seems to work well with SR. The one question I have is in regards to "soft-capped" defense. I assume that means getting the 45% max for melee, ranged, and aoe without the use of Elude. The question I have is how do I do it, what sets are needed, and what can I expect to pay to do that. I have a good chunk of influence, but not a lot. Should I expect to pay 500 million + to do this? Thank you in advance to whoever responds.

If all you're worried about is softcapping, then no it isn't all that expensive.

SR+CJ+Weave all ED slotted gets you to 39.195% to all positions. Edit: 39.195 not 39.125

Need about 6% more.
3% from the steadfast unique.
2.5% from a full set of gaussian.

Basically done right there. Or you can skip the gaussians and go with a full set of obliteration for 3.75% melee and the blessing of the zephyr set for 3.13% range/aoe.

Be well, people of CoH.

Oh ok, thank you very much. I thought it would be very expensive to do so. I will of course get more sets to add recharge and recovery, but softcapping on him is my main priority. Thanks alot!

If you don't already have it, you should grab Mids' Hero Builder from here. If you want to soft cap without weave, or go maneuvers instead of CJ, or mess around with the many other SetIOs that grant positional defense, this is a great tool to view your builds.

It's a little out of date as it just changed development hands, but I bet it will be up to date soon.

The guy currently in charge of development had for a short period of time on friday released the updated version for i15 however there turned out to be several bugs with the way new stuff had been entered. He took it down and has said that he will hopefully have it fixed by this upcoming weekend.

[/ QUOTE ] When you start adding recharge and recovery is when it gets expensive. The healing uniques, Luck of the Gambler, Hetacomb and Armageddon will easily run your build past the 1 billion influence mark. Close to 2 billion if you bid impatiently.

Nah, with /SR, Soft capping can be really cheap.

Well, here it goes, this is my first time using the hero builder. I hope I did it right (please forgive any mistakes). Let me know what you guys think. It is a rough build just to "softcap" my defense. I may eventually add a couple of Crushing Impact sets later on or something like that. Any comments are more than welcome! Thank you to everyone who posted!

With what you've got you are soft capped. Now the question is how much better to do want to be? Instead of using generic IOs you can mix and match from the cheap sets and keep the same amount of dense you have now, but also get more endurance reduction. Or you can use sets and get the set bonuses. You can do the same thing with your attacks.

Fortunately, you can build a fully functional DM/SR scrapper without needing to buy the Armageddon and Hecatomb purple sets.

That brings the cost of the build back down to the 500m - 750m range.

The purple sets add a little bit more but frankly IMO they are not worth what it costs to get them.

Here is a build that should work well for under a billion Inf.
