Snow Leopard

Question - has anyone tried COH in Snow Leopard yet? (I know it is still in developer mode) but just wondering? (I'm downloading it currently but I haven't had a chance to play it yet (stupid family obligations!))

tried it out and it runs just fine (really didn't think there would be an issue) so no fears over upgrading and having it stop working. runs as a 32 bit application in the 64 bit environment.

Works perfectly fine here. Might even work better since Snow Leopard is a bit lighter in the britches than Leopard

This is good news, as I have a copy of Snow Leopard on order for delivery tomorrow. I figured it would probably be OK, but I'd have been super pissed if I upgraded and then couldn't get my CoH/V fix...

Pre-ordered it and will give it a shot sometime this weekend I think.

I think that would be contingent upon CoH itself (for windows) going 64-bit. I'm not a dev so I'm not professing any sort of inside knowledge or something like that. But this late in the game I'd consider an architecture change of that magnitude to be unlikely.

I highly doubt it. You would require that the windows version go 64-bit, which relies on directX/openGL, which would up the development and support costs for forking your development on the windows side (since windows continues to have 32 bit installations which cannot run 64-bit binaries).

Then you'd require transgaming to support the wrappers for 64-bit translation on the mac side, of which you'd have issues with leopard and snow leopard support (which have variations on 64-bit support).

You can check out this link to see some benefits to 64 bit gaming. However it seemed like only the load times showed any significant benefit. In some cases performance went down. It may have been done in 2005, so better optimizations might be known now, but there's too many variables and murky business cases for the devs/publishers to go 64-bit at this time, IMO.

Given that most 64-bit processors and OS's are capable of running 32-bit software natively or mostly natively, there's no real incentive to developing a 64-bit version. I'd rather they worked on updating the game engine before trying to release a separate 64-bit version.
