Stone/fire or stone/elec

I'm going to be starting a stone tank eventually. I was considering either stone/ice or stone/fire, leaning towards stone/fire. However, since they announced tanks are getting electric melee come I16, I'm considering waiting and going stone/elec. Any suggestions on whether I should go stone/fire now or wait until I can do stone/elec?

Any votes for stone/ice?

Nah, I didn't think so.

I'd say go with Stone/Fire now if you want to make and play a stone/fire now, or wait until I16 if you want to wait and make a stone/elec.

Or, you could pull out all the stops and get all crazy and make a stone/fire now, AND STILL make a stone/elec when I16 releases. That's almost too bonzo to contemplate though!!!

I have a 50 ElM/SA Brute. I hate the single target damage. Fire doesn't have this problem.

I vote stone/ice

Love that combo, granite becomes a panic button, not an "end all be all" button.

you can handle psionics easily, even in granite if you really wanted to, ice patch, mudpots, and freezing touch, along with rooted and health, have you covered, no big deal.

I see stone/ice as being the definition of impossible to kill.

Mine stopped dying at all from level 20 on to 50 (too bad I closed that account).

Damage was nothing too spectacular, though Frozen Aura rocks completely.

I'm having a lot of fun with a Stone/Fire at the moment. So I can recommend this.

Great damage (at least outside of Granite). As I'm not doing sets yet (still in the low 30's), it's still something of a trade off between recharge and end reduction. I tend to just carry around a lot of blues.

This. My stoner of choice is fire. I've tried a few others but this was the one I had the most fun with and made the most well rounded character possible for a stone tank IMO.

Still able to solo missions outside of granite, and still very able to hold agro with 2-4 aoe's (if you take bof and a pool 4) one of which is available very quickly.

It is an offensive set with no mitigation, but stone doesn't need mitigation IMO. I never worry about dying since granite is always available if needed so there really is no downside to taking arguably the most offensive tanker secondary and pairing it with the most defensive primary.

I can't really speak to elec since I haven't ever made a brute.

The Stone/Fire combo is extremely capable; even in Granite the AOE's will drop a group pretty quickly and /Fire is by far the most end-friendly secondary I've played. This combo was my 2nd tanker to hit 50 and it was a smooth ride the whole way. There were a few rough spots in the late 20's in Croatoa but for the most part it wasn't too tough and once 32 rolled around the only times I died were by being a bit late hitting Granite and trying to handle too much in Rock Armor.

Even on just SO's it's capable of tanking nearly anything in the game; I ran thru about a dozen STF's early in issue 9 with him before I started thinking about IO's.

Yeah. Tectonica (my Stone/Fire) was what showed me what was going on with my SS/Inv tank and why it felt so squishy when I was leveling. On Inv/ if you have your defense numbers up, you watch them jump around like a frog on a hotplate, even if nothing is debuffing you. This sometimes leaves you vulnerable at inopportune moments. With Stone, you know your defense level right off the bat and it stays there.

Hence my final push towards a MaxDefense SS/Inv tank that, while not doing GREAT damage, is absolutely BEASTLY to try and kill (at least outside of PVP).

While Granite IS more durable, for most missions that I solo, I really don't need to run Granite for save as the stoner "Oh *BLEEP!*" button (mostly due to the "Kill 'em faster" factor).
