Alternative rewards on Dev's Choice Arcs?

I read a splash screen tip that mentioned Dev's Choice MA Arcs give alternative rewards, recipes and somethin else IIRC? Does this work and if so how? I've done a couple DC's now and have only received tickets.

It should prompt you when you start the DC arc if you want to receive AE rewards (tickets etc.) or standard rewards (salvage/recipes).

Did you not get a pop-up when you started the arc?

No, I was expecting that when I hit Play. Does it matter that the character is 50th level?
