Fatal Error:
./piggs/soundPowers.pigg: Bad flag on file - not a Pig file-1

Your data might be corrupt, please run the patcher and try again

Happens when I try to run covupdater--rebooting solves the issue for a good while, then it always comes back eventually. Once I get the error, it happens every time I launch CoH until I reboot the PC.

File verification detects no problem. The first time I got it, I tried replacing soundPowers.pigg from my cohtest folder, but when I launched the game, I got the same error message about a different pigg file.

I couldn't find anything on this error via google, so I'm wondering if anyone else has gotten this problem, or knows anything about what could be causing it.

EDIT: This has been happening since April at least.

This worries me because jkkLFwXN is not a normal program name. I'd say you had an infection and Spyware Doctor may have removed it (or partially removed it). I suspect that these two lines are related:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {4F90D8C1-DC9B-4BF0-B5F1-904077F0FE69} - (no file)
O20 - Winlogon Notify: jkkLFwXN - jkkLFwXN.dll (file missing)

I'm not a HijackThis expert, but I would try fixing those 2 entries and do a search on my hard drives for jkkLFwXN.* and delete it.

You might want to post your HijackThis log on one of the many forums that exist specifically for this purpose.

Sorry I'm not more help.

Edit: Disable Spyware Doctors active scan while you are actually playing.

[/ QUOTE ]Quite helpful actually. I couldn't find a file, but did find a registry entry under HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Search Assistant/ACMru. Deleted the ACMru folder as it turns out to be a trojan or somesuch. Whether this has anything to do with the problem remains to be seen of course.

And if those don't fix it, then you need to do a hard drive scan, 'cause I suspect it could be that, and it won't hurt to do it... well, it might, but it's a low chance.

Start, Run, Chkdsk C: /r, Ok, Yes, Restart, and then go get coffee or something for an hour or so.

Repeat for your other drives if needed, although it's debateable whether D: or such might need a restart.

In your case, it's the C: drive, so that might be all that's needed.

Let's delete it and force it to be rewritten elsewhere. on the hard drive rather than the spot. So, go ahead and delete the file /piggs/soundPowers.pigg. Then...

1. Go to control panel and then Add/Remove Programs and get rid of any programs you don't need any more.

2. Go into Windows Explorer (not the Internet Explorer) and right click on your C: drive and chose Properties. Under the General Tab, you'll see a button for Disk Cleanup, run it and get rid of deleted (recycle bin) and temp files.

3. Under the General Tab, make sure Indexing is not selected. Unless you need to do quick searches of your documents on a regular basis, you don't need this. It may take a while to propagate the un-indexing to all the sub-folders.

4. Go to the Tools Tab and click on the defrag button. Run the defragger. It may take an hour or two to defrag. Make sure the computer doesn't power down during it (you'll find power options where you change the screen saver -- right click on desktop...).

OK. Now go into the CoH directory and delete checksum.coh. Reboot the computer. Start up CoH and let it go through the verify process.

See if that works.

Thanks so much for the help guys.

Just an update: I forgot to include this error message which occurs once in a great while as I'm actually playing:

./piggs/texVWorld3.pigg: Corrupt pig file detected
Read failed for file: texture_library/WORLD/V_COV/Villian_Lairs/Bus_Interiors/Bus_Rooms/Bus_Bank/CEL_Bank01.texture

I've also gotten the same error involving the pawn shop texture.

Anyway, I took all of the advice here--ran chkdsk, which was pretty alarming since for some reason there was no video during the scan (some conflict with the onboard video card I think--at one point after installing the 9800gt, the video was going to the vga out until windows started and then switched to the new card, even now every time I boot it tries to install the onboard video), then deleted soundpowers.pigg, texVWorld3.pigg, and coh.checksum. Then I ran a defrag, rebooted, and ran the updater.

No errors so far, but it's only been a day and a half. I've got my fingers crossed and I'll keep you posted. Thanks again.

Honestly it sounds like either your Hard Drive (one or more of the heads or drive surface area) or the hard drive controller chip (but my money is on th HD itself), is starting to die. If I were you, I'd starting backing up/moving critical data OFF that drive immediately.

Yeah, I already copied most vital data to an external drive in anticipation of the dreaded click of death. I try to have at least two copies of any work-related stuff on different drives.

Same error has recurred. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to put up with it. As to my hard rive going to pot, I'd be more inclined to agree if I encountered anything similar with any other program, but I don't.

I'm due for a wipe and reinstall anyhow, so I'll do that soon. Thanks again everyone.
