Started a plant/thorn a few days ago, and I have to say that I like it. I have not been a great fan of controlish type sets, but seeing the I15 changes, and hearing a few people praise this, as well as an awesome plant/thorn dom on a team I was on for a while that isn't going anymore, I thought I would give it a whirl. I do have a few questions though:

1) thorns seems to be mostly about getting into melee. since there isn't much defense or resistance, is tough and/or weave something I should seriously consider taking?

2) I'm mostly solo (so far). Will the tree be worth taking?

3) Is perma domination worth trying to get at some point?

4) Before I get too far into this toon, are there any other dom powersets I might enjoy more, being that this is my first?

Overall, i am having a lot of fun. its definitely cool to see my enemies held, and one being strangled to death while I beat on another. I don't feel squishy (yet), and I'm making some quick progress due to how much fun this character is.

Once you get Seeds of Confusion slotted up melee should be no big deal. Tough doesn't do a lot for a Dom, though sticking a 3% defense IO in it and taking Weave can help if you can spare the slots. If you want resists, a patron shield is better.

I'd take Aid Self instead of the tree if you solo. As for perma-Dom, it's very useful... you get status protection, you mez bosses in one shot, and you get a free endurance refill every minute and a half. What's not to like?

Cascade, level 50 Blaster (NRG/NRG since before it was cool)
Mechmeister, level 50 Bots / Traps MM
FAR too many non-50 alts to name

1. depending on your patron shield, if you go Black Scorpion I would go with Weave, anyone else I wouldn't go past tough, the stacking S/L resists can be nice when dealing with certain enemies.

2. Spirit Tree I can't really comment on that much, I have a 37 Plant/Psy that has been collecting dust since like i8, but I took it on him and when Dom's were weak it was kinda worth it since I spent a lot of time on certain mobs. But since I have been floating though mobs with the i15 changes I don't spend nearly as much time on a mob as I used to. I would say since you are going to solo a lot NO but if you are going to team Consider it.

3. Double mag, longer durations, MEZ PROTECTION, and an End refill, I would still consider it, however, unlike times before you don't need a lot so you can stack double domination for a while, you only need about 80% to be comfortable. 70% is minimum, but that is a bare minimum, you can't get hit with a slow and you have to live by your hasten and have Dom on auto.

4. Don't know there that all comes down to personal preference.

(1) I think either aid self or tough/weave can be worth it. You're probably going to have to choose one or the other and not both though, because pools are tight with a dom. (Stamina and hasten benefit almost all builds.)

(2) If you have a spare power slot, but I wouldn't sacrifice anything terribly important for it. I haven't taken it in any of my builds, but I have had triage beacon in /traps and it can occasionally be useful despite all of the bad press it gets. It's unlikely to be useful more than once a mission though (say just inside the bank door in a mayhem mission after you ran there, or maybe in some long boss encounter with ambushes.)

(3) Yes, for the mez protection and end refill if nothing else. These definitely come in handy solo (you mentioned soloing.) Mez resist because it is just you out there so you want to be able to act. End again because soloing if you run out of end you are just sitting there doing nothing and wasting your own time.

(4) I'd say don't second-guess yourself. You went in and decided to roll a plant/thorns because something about it appealed to you. Just go with it and keep playing and enjoying things.
