My BS/SD softcapped build...

Call Me Awesome

..but which I'm not happy about. Not enough recharge in it, and the ToD in Hack just murderise the power (crummy % from slotting the full set, yuck).

That's, unfortunatly, the same reaction I had from slotting my DM/SD, to have all the defense bonuses we need to give up something, I don't even have much room for purples because, yes, I need the sets -_-

Well, and because I want Aid-Self/Hasten. Without Aid-Self/Hasten I would have one free pool from which I could've put CJ which coupled with the Zephyr would've been a large chunk of defense freeing me from juggling so many bonuses.

Anyway, here's the build, any tips on how to improve it? The attack chain will be from hell I think, gaps here and there but I can't really see how to improve it further while keeping (near) softcapped to all.

OK, well first of all, you absolutely don't need 2 interrupt reducers in Aid Self. In fact, I find that being softcapped to all positions, I do perfectly fine without any interrupt in Aid Self at all. What can't hit you, can't interrupt you.

With that said, and assuming that you're not deliberately avoiding purple and pvp IOs for expense's sake, take a look at the tweaks I made to your build.

NOTE: the empty slot in True Grit is for the Gladiator's Armor +defense IO. So add 3% to all defenses listed in Mids'. And ideally, you should replace the Achilles Heel -res proc in Headsplitter with the Fury of the Gladiator -res proc.

With this setup your attacks will do a LOT more damage and recharge a LOT faster; you will chain Hack > Headsplitter > Hack > Disembowel > (0.52sec gap), for more than 200dps vs. one target, and over 235dps with AAO saturated. This takes into account -res stacking from the two different -res procs.

Here you are, now:

I found that the interrupt is good to squeeze in an AS while in the middle of auto-hit dots like caltrops, or the fire grenades from the Cimerorean Engineers.

You have some good points though, and I had completly forgotten about the new PvP IOs, though last I checked the +3% def was going for 300-400 mill. Still, something to look for I reckon.

Thanks for the tips.

In the case of caltrops or burn patches, you use Shield Charge to teleport off them (probably killing or at least knocking down whatever threw them at you) and then use Aid Self.

In any case, some revisions to what you posted can vastly improve your damage output.

Yup yup, thanks again ^^ I'm more used to tinkering with the defense side of things than with the offense. The prices of purples and a raging altitis also makes me choose cheaper builds since nothing tends to grab me for long once 50.

A second build eschewing the Fighting pool.

It implies the usage of the PvP +3% defense IO and me having enough patience to get that myriad of LoTGs +recharge. If I get that far I can also squeeze in purples, though at 100 mill each I doubt I'd have the patience to fully slot the toon.

Guys, if you put the steadfast into OwtS, is the bonus active only when you activate the power, or is the bonus always there?

That's.. a good point actually. I know the +regen from the numinas requires the power to be activated every 2 minutes, but the steadfast has no such wording in its power (that I have noticed).

Ah, I found the answer. Always on.

Yes, the 3% defense counts as a set bonus; therefore it's on as long as you're not exemped more than 3 levels below the level of the enhancement.

You have an alternative in your soft cap build... what I did was focus on Ranged & AOE def and ignore the Melee relying on Parry. With your slotting for Range/AOE one parry puts you over 45% on Melee.

My BS/SD ended up slotting the full Mako into Hack & Disembowel and a pair of Zephyr in CJ/SJ to handle the Ranged def. I tossed 5 Scirocco's into Slice, Whirling Sword, Head Splitter and Shield Charge to handle the AOE def. Slotted up Maneuvers and a Steadfast def IO in True Grit finish the defenses.

So do the defense bonuses work even when they are in powers not "on" or recently activated? Or would you just turn on sj, then turn on cj every couple minutes?

Set bonuses work at all times, it's procs like the Numina or Miracle unique that work for 2 mins after you turn off the power.

My BS/SD is soft capped without Weave using the sets I mentioned; I just need one parry to get my Melee def from ~28% to the soft cap. He's much more survivable and deals considerably more damage than my previous favorite scrapper, my BS/Regen.
