Anyone have any JSA-inspired arcs?

I'm looking to play through a few arcs and post up some reviews here. My favourite hero team of all time is the JSA and am looking for some stories inspired by the JSA. (Costumed villains, time travel, elaborate plots, silver age goodness.)

Post up your arcs in this thread and i'll get around to them when the servers are back up. Thanks!

Justice Society of America

Has all the oldschool DC heroes in it. (The Flash, Green Lantern, Wildcat, Mr. Terrific, etc.)

I'm not looking for an arc containing those characters, just wanted something similar in scope/function. Silver age/golden age heroes / etc.

Guess there's not a lot of interest in old school comics here. Shame.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Classic comic book capers, everybody's got a costume, even the madman villain who's plotting to take over the world with the ancient thing he stole from the museum. Sadly, I haven't seen any arcs that wholly fit that bill. Some of them come close, but they're not very good.

You might want to be specific on the versions of the Flash and Green Lantern that are used since they are quite different than the current Justice League. Anyways, due to copyright/EULA reasons you can't directly have a JSA homage arc but done right you could match the overall feel.

Homages, actually, you're allowed. It's the direct rip off you're not.

Sadly I too can't offer up a true JLA/JSA homage arc myself. My 4th of July arc has the classic "We need to convince them we're on the same team!" theme in it, but not enough spandex I'm afraid.

Hmm... maybe I'll try to write one...

I've never been clear on the difference between a homage and a copyright violation. I've seen The Flash turned into Quicksilver and Green Arrow become Hawkeye. I've seen the Fantastic Four become The Incredibles and the Hulk become Solomun Grundy. And I've seen the JLA become the Squadron Supreme.

Does this mean that I can have an arc of the JLA if every character has a different costume and character name? Specifically, can I have a Yellow Bow and Arrow for Green Lantern, a White Dove for Black Canary, and a Powerful Mother for Superman? Can I call them the Gang of Seven (for the original 7 members of the JLA)?

Color me ... clueless.

A while back I was in a Weekly SG called "Guadians of Justice". The rule was that each of us did a character that was a direct homage to a member of the JLA. We had to use the same colors, and the same powerset theme, and our names had to be based in concept around our homage.

But we also had to be sure we were different enough not to get GH'd.

I took Dr. Midnight as my homage. To recreate his concept, I used his colors of Red and Black, and made him in a vest with tucked in pants and boots. He featured goggles instead of a mask, a black mustache and greying hair, and while he was a Dark/ Dark defender was called Prf. Twilight.

If you put the two on the same screen you'd probably miss that he was an homage without a nudge. But once you had it, you'd get it.

Another guy in our group did an homage to Super Man with a SS/Invul tanker. Dressed in blue spandex and a cowboy hat, "True Blue" played up the "boyscout" personality of Superman, and did so without crossing, I think, the copyright line.

Derivative works are acceptable; copies aren't. It's all about making sure enough is different to be 'unique' but just a touch similar to be an homage.

It's a line.. yeah.. but it can be walked.

Besides a JSA story arc doesn't even need elements of the JSA homages there; it's about theme and style.

I wish we were better able to incorporate custom characters into MA arcs. The file size limitations can really stifle creating characters to do this IMO.

OP: If I come across anything similar to what you are looking for, I'll post it here.

I wasn't really looking for homage's, just arcs that had the same feel. Full of heroes/villains you can imagine the JSA interacting with.

A homage would be cool too i guess. Dunno how allowed that would be though.

The Splendid Pals trilogy is the closest thing I can think of.

My arc "Females for Hire" doesn't have the same feel, really, as JSA, but does have a character whose career was loosely, non-actionably, inspired by Power Girl.

It doesn't fit the idea of what you're looking for, but if it's an arc with a LOT of spandex and/or costumes you want, check out This Costume Contest Sponsored By Tubbius. There are. . . I think seven or eight heroes and a custom villain across three missions? Check it out.

Not sure these count, but one of the first people to play my "Sidekicks" arc said it had a classic comic book feel to it, but not really Silver Age like the JSA. And the only arc of mine with a thread (check sig below) is pretty much old-school "travel through time and save the world", with a couple of twists.

You've give me an idea for my next arc though, one set back in the Silver Age.

Agreeing here. The Splendid Pals trilogy is awesome, and very spandex-clad.

Just did Deathbug's "Time's Maelstrom #182874" Arc. Was a lot of fun. Was tough to solo even with my tricked out Blaster. (SS/Kin is a nasty combo for an EB.) BUt I managed to drop everything and save the universe. I really liked the dynamic of the final mission also.

You can read more about it here.

Will give "Sidekicks" and "splendid pals" a look next time i'm in game.
