Getting a new build, how will this hold up?

XPS 630, Intel Core2 processorE8400 (3.0 GHz,1333FSB) w/Dual Core Technology and 6MB cache
4GB DDR2 SDRAM at 800MHz
1GB Nvidia GeForce GTX 285
500GB NCQ SATA Hard Drive (7200 RPM) w/ 16MB DataBurst Cache
Microsoft Windows Vista SP1 Home Premium 64-Bit Edition English
16X DVD+R/RW
Dell CPU Air Cooling Thermal Heatsink

What should I expect from the game with a system like this? I'm pretty stoked.

My old system is a Dimension 8300 with a P4 2.99GHZ processor, 4gb RAM, 100GB HDD and a 256 MB Nvidia 7600 GT

As it is, the game runs pretty good, but lags up a bit and drops frame rate when in heavily populated areas ie Atlas Park, any sort of raid, and a team of 8 on a small map letting lose.

Any ideas?

In largely populated areas, it's usually the server and/or network lag that tends to affect most people, in which case, the new system wouldn't be too different in that regard. You'll also suffer from the lower framerates, but probably not as low on a system with higher specs.

I'd say you'll find yourself with overall increased performance and maybe quicker load times either way... but I don't think your old system was that bad, other than not being multi-core. You should have been able to use near-full settings on the old system, but the new system should run it without the slight performance loss.

In short.. It will certainly hold up fine, but I hope you aren't upgrading for the sole purpose of playing CoH better... unless you have the money to burn.

No, I'm not upgrading for the sole purpose of CoH. I'm playing on a 6 year old machine, and some games are coming out that I'd love to play, and unfortunately, I'm the kind of person that doesn't PC game that much, and when I do, the game has to run the way it was made to be played, or I seem to just not be able to get into it. Always checking settings and such. Future games like Champions Online, Star Wars: The Old Republic, and Aion, to name a few, have my intrest.

In the case of upgrading for other games and future potential.. then I'd say it's worth the investment. (especially when referring to the "has to run the way it was made to be played" scenario. I'm guilty of that also. lol)

You should see a noticeable increase in rendering detail. You might find that things like Nemesis Automatons have more filigree and such than you knew about before.

If you've got any graphics settings lower than max you can probably up them with room to spare.

Oh yea, you'll see a quite an improvement in performance. The video card is at least 10x faster and with dual cores, each about twice as fast as your previous P4 (Core 2 cpus are roughly twice as fast at the same clock speed as a P4) that side of any bottleneck is improved as well.
