its good, some people claim it to be the best synergy for SD even over the fotm elec/SD
as for the other one, SR is good, but when you make a topic with nrg melee in the title you will hear very little praise over the AT and a ton of whine
Any other thoughts? I'd be interested in the conclusions as well.
DM/SD is very good, but it can get expensive so unless you plan on making an investment in the toon I'd recommend going for a mix of the two options and choose DM/SR.
DM
I currently have an EM/SR brute at 50 with a fair amount of IOs, softcapped to all positions and I want to scrap her. I think SR is great, but EM is really not a hot set anymore. The attacks are v e r y s l o w. I find the lack of AoE irritating, and you can do some pretty good dmg to yourself based on using energy transfer whenever it is up. I personally wouldn't pair EM with a secondary that has no +heal or healing component.
DM has everything that complements SR very well; a heal, more -accuracy, quick attacks that benefit more from quickness's recharge and more. I think I will likely re-roll my EM/SR as DM/sr simply because DM is so much better than EM right now.
Basically, the nerf really put EM out of being a top level performer to an instant bottom feeder. I would discourage you from playing it unless you have some great concept or just are curious.
Words to the wise aren't necessary- it's the stupid ones that need them.

been looking for another brute to play and was going to give one of these builds a try. i hear lotsof good things about SR so i thought pairing it with NRG for its ST damage. also looking at DM/SD for the soul drain +aao + fury damage. just not sure which one would be fun so i am looking for other peoples opinion on this subject. thanks
