Blapper Huntsman?

I'm building my Wolf Spider as a sort of in-spirit version of one of my favourite original characters, which boils down to basically firepower+melee with a little defense. Basically a Blapper really. But while it's a concept build, I also want it to be a viable build. I'm thinking of staying mostly Wolf Spider, dipping into Bane a bit for defences, skipping a travel power (never done it before, might as well give it a go) and taken all melee attacks. Is there any general advice you can give me for this concept?

Could work, I think Bayonet has the highest DPA(I think, might have read something wrong) melee attack in the Spiders arsenal. And you can't go wrong with Pummel.

I'd dip into Mace a bit though for Build Up and for Crowd Control. Maybe Shatter for big targets.

Sounds like fun actually.

This. If you really want to include some melee to a Huntsman (I've seen it done quite a bit actually) try to keep the melee down to about 2 attacks. You can go with either Pummel + Bayonet to avoid redraw, or go Shatter + Crowd Control. Either way would work fine, but you'll bog down your build trying to complete both melee and ranged attack chains.

I might use a similar tactic that I used for my Blaster- soften up foes from range, finish them off in melee. I might just have to experiment.

Off topic (sorry) but I've found my all melee crab highly effective and fun. Slice, Frenzy, Air Superiority and the other melee crab attack (it's a small cone, I forgot it's name) make for a seemless chain and the damage is decent. Additionally, Venom Grenade and Frag Grenade cause no redraw and are easily used in melee. You also get the "Dull Pain" clone in Serum, a nice status/resist armor toggle in "Fortification" and a gaggle of pets to soak aggro and put some hurt on enemy mobs. I chose to forgo a travel power in lieu of the fighting pool as well. Hover + Mental Training + Swift = good combat and travel manuverability. Toss in some IO's to taste and you've got yourself one effective blapper.

Note: Channel Gun and the other single target ranged attack won't slow you down with redraw either! It's really a win/win.

If you're sticking with the Wolf Spider powers for this blapper concept, make sure to pick up pummel and bayonet. The stun is always useful, and bayonet is one of the most damaging attacks that Soldiers get access to. As for defense, stack as much against melee as you can.
