what is the best way to earn merits

I ran some low level story arcs recently. Basically did my atlas, galaxy city and some hollows contacts. I earned a total of 13 mission merits. Not that i really want to get recipe's yet on my lvl 16 controller, but curious what the most efficient way of earning tickets is later on so i can get some rare stuff. Basically how can i get the most out of my time, even if its repeating content over and over.

Are you referring to MA tickets, or to Merits (for completing story arcs of in-game content)?

If it's the former, it's tough to say. If it's the latter, swing by here to see how many Merits the various story arcs are worth.

You mean merits, then? I'm not trying to mince words, but the game does have tickets in it, and earning those would require a different strategy.

If you're interested in, apparently, blue-side merit values for tasks and SA's, you can find more info here. Good luck!

EDIT: NoooOOOOoooo!

Skip as much as you can and only complete objectives for missions; also if you keep the team sizes small(ish) Task Forces have a good return on time investment using the same concept.

It may not be the most fun way to play for everybody, but it's reasonably profitable. If you haven't run an arc before, I'd still recommend taking the time to read the mission text and poke around so you can see it at least once, though.

Merits are great. They don't replace shopping at the consignment houses, because it's too difficult to acquire everything by merits. But they're perfect for when you've almost got everything you want and there's just a few recipes that are either hugely expensive of flat-out unavailable. Use the merits for those and you're good to go. It's a wonderful solution to the immense frustration when you're excited about your almost-finished build but just can't get those last few items!

What about picking your recipe vs the random roll. Do you find that you get good enough stuff from the random roll to sell what you don't need in order to buy what you want for less time spent?

Short version... well, attempted short version.

Rolling random gets you about as much money as picking the best recipes and selling them. It's a much better deal than picking almost any other recipe. You get 10-12 random recipes for every "get exactly what you want" recipe.

Random recipes are random; I've seen people roll three times and get one of the "super" recipes (there are three or four that are worth a tremendous amount); I've seen people roll ten times and get bad stuff every time.

Because I have money and like to encourage certain behaviors, I will buy "merits". I give you a fixed sum of money, you roll and give me whatever you get. 6 million per roll, hero or villain, any server, between level 32 and 41. I think that's a fair price these days, but it could be off. Those 10 crap recipes in a row? I bought 'em.

So you think you're a hero, huh.

That's good to know. Randoms are pretty cheap compared to 200 merits in one shot. I figured you can get some good coin for them.

Re: specific vs random on recipes:

There are some recipes that if I need, I'll simply buy instead of waiting for a good roll - they're typically the ones that cost in excess of 10x what the average pool C/D recipe sells for, and are almost always procs that the lower level you have them, the more useful they are.

If I don't particularly care about any one recipe because I need a lot of them, or if I want something at a higher level for better enhancement values, I'll do random rolls. This is a change for me since the weighted rolls were added - before that I'd still buy a specific proc and sell it for inf to buy the other recipes since I really don't need that 83rd Unspeakable Terror 2% Chance for Disorient that only sells at the vendor.
