What AT do I want?

So my highest from back 1000 days ago is just a wee 18 levels, so even though I have 15 months I'm a baby as far as the game goes. And I've only been back a few weeks. I've tried some ATs and I have sort of found my groove, but I want to know what ATs would suit my style.

I'm not a stand at the fringes guy, I like being in the middle of the action... but I like AoE... or fast enough ST damage that I can still wind up with a large pile of bodies at my feet. I like having the deathblow, not chipping away like my (lowbie) tanks do.

I even have a dendency to run my Ill/rad controller into the mess, with the excuse that I am getting my heals and AM action on. Its where I feel like I'm doing the most.

I'm thinking a Brute, Blapper, Dominator, or maybe a more durable scrapper type? I just don't know enough of the mechanics to know if there are some hidden gems of unintended playstyles for ATs I'm unaware of.

So big (or at least potent) AoE, (or fast single target), in the mess... locked down or not, it doestn't matter.

What are my options? And what are the best sets (if there are any) to do what I want?

Any scrapper will work, Spines is your AoE king by a good margin. Spines/Dark is a classic for AoE madness. Katana is a good scrapper choice for above average AoE and above average single target. Katana's Divine Avalanche gives great survivability.

A Fire/Fire blaster is great for this if you don't mind dying...you'll often kill everything single-handed, but it's a high-risk high-reward player. Fire/Energy if you don't like the dying.

Brutes are great, almost anything/WP is a good starter. SS/WP is the most popular starting brute. Strong and very tough.

Doms are interesting...currently godly in domination and a bit lacking outside of it, and it looks like some significant changes are on the way. Try fire/fire and avoid the AoE immobilize.

You sound like an Electric/Willpower brute player to me.

I love my DB/WP Brute. On the team that I dinged 50 with, prior to that we were in a CoT maze with so many Mages and Behemoths cramming the hallway that I could not see a darn thing, so I just kept swinging until their health bar went away then tabbed to the next one. Meanwhile the rest of the team (all except 1 I think) were inspecting tile grout shouting "Go Ivory, GO!"

Once you build up Fury, and nail the attack Combo's, it's quite amusing to see a wall of Mage's and Behemoth's go '<censored> over tea kettle.'

I suggest a petless bots/ff mastermind.

Suprised no one has made the suggestion of either a SS/Shield Brute or (anything)/Dark Armor Tanker/Scrapper/Brute...

By the description of your combat tech you want to be in the middle and have the damage rain around you. If this is the case any AT with DA will help considerably with the AoE Heals and constant damage Auras...You will pull the Agro as you run into and through mobs. Then just pick the Attack power you like the most, all have some AoE though I would stay away from Energy Melee due to KB constantly thinning your mob.

Brutes, Electric Melee is probably the best AoE due to it's damage mitigation (enemies doin the zappy dance) and End Drain.

Scrappers, it's all about the Spines baby...King of the AoE melee...AoE, Slows, and Toxic Damage...Oh My!

Tanks, well any Attack set will do just pick a flavor and go with it...

My personal favorite for running and stomping is SS/Shield Brute...Consider this attack chain (Availible @lvl 35) [Rage] + [Shield Charge] + [Foot Stomp] = About 1000+ Damage, plus Maximum Carnage, and large piles of bodies lying around...Throw in the occasional KB Blow for the remaining EB/AV and you've got a party...

I rolled up an elec/elec Brute last night... I think that's going to be my red-side guy.

But I'll look into the Scrapper/Tank suggestions though I wonder- I've heard tanks don't do alot of damage- is this accurate or is there like a Scrank build or something lol- keep them coming if you have good examples.

what's with the bots/ff? Is it a joke or something? It sounds sort of munchkinish...

Petless for Masterminds is, charitably speaking, a concept build. Rudely speaking, it's a gimp build.

For any Mastermind, your pets are your primary source of damage, and your primary source of damage mitigation (henchmen take the beats, rather than you, using the Bodyguard feature). I wouldn't recommend it starting out.

Tanks tend to survive by having high damage resistance/defense, as opposed to scrappers who survive by killing stuff first. Tanks can solo, but their damage output is lower than scrappers, so it tends to take longer, but is less risky.

Electric Armor is kind of squishy for a brute. I wnet with elec/fire for a lot of AoE myself, but elec/shield and ss/fire are both popular AoE builds.
