IO sets and acc/rech/hold caps

On this forum, the slang for mixing and matching IO pieces from different sets to maximize attribute boost without regard to Set Bonuses is "frankenslotting". So, yeah, it's acceptable and encouraged.
Diminishing returns from Enhancement Diversification is always around, but don't worry about it.
Teams are the number one killer of soloists.

An acc/rech/hold triple offers 17.4% to each aspect (about half an SO)
Slotting 6 of the (if it were possible), would basically put you at the ED cutoff for each aspect
Mixing acc/rech/hold with a few Dual IOs (or the Lockdown/Basilisk's Gaze quad) will certainly get you up the the ED caps. Ideally you can get there (or close) with 5 slots, and then use the 6th slot for a proc
The concept of mixing from different sets is called 'Franken slotting' and is widely used, as it provides good returns relatively cheaply.

So I just hit 27 and went to IO set out my char, and I realized that was going to be prohibitively expensive (to do a whole set), so I pondered grabbing a couple of IOs from each set.
For example, acc/rech/hold from each of the hold sets, rather than say the acc/end and hold/range or whatever.
Is this feasible, or will the diminishing returns thing bite me in the behind?
