Rad/Sonic/? PvP Build?
Rad/Sonic is still a viable PvP build - it was one of the best dueling builds in the game before I13. The I13 changes hit Rad (and Defenders in general, thanks to the removal of unresisted debuffs) pretty hard but Sonic is still one of the top blast sets. Just be prepared to get detoggled quite a bit.
Since you don't have Mids, I can't give you a build (you could try downloading a trial of Parallels or VMWare, if you have a copy of Windows, and run a virtual machine to run Mids on your Mac - it's what I do). However, I can say that as a Rad/Son you should be building around set bonuses that give +HP, +damage, and +recharge, in that order (some might argue +dam is more important than +HP but it's a matter of taste).
Power Mastery is still probably the top choice for Rad because you can use PBU to boost the +tohit in Aim (on top of the additional tohit buff PBU gives), the -def and -tohit from Radiation Infection (for the duration of PBU), the +speed and mez resists in Accelerate Metabolism, the -speed in Lingering Radiation, and the stun duration of Screech and Total Focus. On top of that, PBU offers an 80% damage boost. For dueling at least, Power Mastery offers Total Focus, which when used while your toggles are up and after you've hit the target with an attack chain or two, can really hurt. You'll want to be careful about using TF in zones though, because Stalkers will be on top of you in a second.
You could make Psi Mastery work as well, though I don't recall seeing a Rad/Sonic with that epic.
"One day we all may see each other elsewhere. In Tyria, in Azeroth. We may pass each other and never know it. And that's sad. But if nothing else, we'll still have Rhode Island."
Mac is just trying to be nice....Defenders in general are horrible now. Make a sonic/rad/mace corrupter and you will be happy i promise. Defenders lost the unresisted debuffs...and basically got nothing in return ....Corrupters > Defenders. So..just re roll.
Sorry but this just isn't true when you research the numbers. In PvP, for Sonic at least, Defenders and Corruptors do the exact same damage, but Defenders still debuff 5% more resists per attack. Corruptors do get Scourge, so it roughly evens out I suppose, but then Defenders still have way better Radiation debuffs. Defender Enervating Field debuffs resists by 40%, Corruptors do 22.5%. Defender Radiation Infection debuffs to-hit/defense by 31.25%, Corruptors do 25%. So on and so forth. And then Defenders have a great Epic pool to go along with it as well, so yeah IMO in PvP a Rad/Sonic Def >>> Sonic/Rad Corruptor.
Scourge > almost anything a Defender brings to the table.

It does not even out lol. Scourge will wreck compared to that extra 5% -res that you hope you can stack. Yea its true the debuffs are a little bit stronger, but with DR it does not really matter now. Also defenders do not get a defense shield as to where corrupter's do RI+Defense shield = win. They also get FA so they dont have to take lol tactics, also with FA you get -tohit res.. You put a Defender Vs. Corrupter i can bet the corrupter will rofflestomp the defender. O yea...corrupters get Webnade too. No way the defenders even come close to corrupters now. You looked at the numbers...i looked at what i see in arena and zone.
A rad/sonic/psy defender does have one advantage over corruptors. TK will let you place your debuff toggles with impunity (or buy you some time to heal), and dominate is nice. It's probably not enough to make up for Sourge + Shark + Hiber, but it's not completely gimp either.
Nope...as soon as you touch somebody in TK it breaks it...so as soon as you would TK/Rad up your target TK would drop. LMAO didn't we test that together in arena with our doms??? Bad memory Baddo.
Your post count is epic you forum W*****.
I'm pretty sure debuffs don't break TK, at least it didn't break after DP.
edit: also reported. Get bant noob
Well i would help test it....if my hard drive in my laptop did not fry. LMAO. But that poison ray did break it if i remember correctly..and thats a debuff. hmmm..

Only damage will break TK, I believe. Toggling on your Rad debuffs won't do anything (but even then it's what, a six-second window).

Fight my brute
Yeah, I'm not looking to make 'teh pwnzor' toon, just one good enough to have fun and hold its own, even if it is "gimp". Plus it's much more fun when you do win with the character that's considered gimp. If I was looking to go pure ownage, I'd definitly roll a new toon for PvP (and may do that sometime in the future once conceptitis wears off, if ever). Also... I'm crazy and tend to do things like use lolgimpcharacters.
Anyway, a few questions. First, about how much +HP can I slot for, counting accolades, before DR starts to slam me? Second, EM Pulse and Sirens Song. I have them on my current build, but I can't seem to use them effectively. Are they just gimpy PvP powers? And third, which secondary pools are best to get? I ask because there's five, maybe six, that promise they could be useful: Leaping for Super Jump and Acrobatics, Speed for Hasten and Super Speed, Fighting for Tough, Fitness for obvious reasons, and Stealth for Phase Shift. Would the Presence pool be useful for fighting other ranged toons, or do those powers not debuff range like Scrapper/Brute/Tank Taunt and Confront?
1.) EM Pluse is garbage don't get it, and take the stun in the sonic set instead of the sleep. The stun does -res the sleep does not. Although i have heard of people taking it and slotting it with the placate proc. But i don't recommend that.
2.) Fitness: Hurdle, Health (slot the recovery procs), and Stamina
Leaping: Combat Jumping, Super Jump, and Accrobatics
Speed: Hasten and Super Speed
Leadership : Assault, and Tactics
The Problem with being a defender is you have to take Leadership instead of Concealment. I recommend buying the phase temp power. Good thing about being a corrupter is that you get Focused Acc, and you don't have to take leadership. Another problem with being a defenders is you have no defense shield that you can get. As i said earlier you being rad..having a defense shield would be sexy..but....your defender. Make sure you go with Power mastery. Get power build up, temp invul, and Total Focus. That's about it....like i said corrupter's are so much better lol.
After looking through my toons, I've decided to go with a Rad/Sonic Defender for PvP whenever I feel like going after it. Yes, I am well aware that Defenders are hardly near the best, that Rad/ can easily be detoggled, and so on and so forth. I'm just the kind of guy who has to be different from the norm. I already have some experience with a SOed build I put together (which I can post for critiques/laughs if you want me to) and learned that I essentially just have to run from Controllers and Dominators while hunting down those with few, if any, mezzes (hello Fire/Regen Scrapper!) However, I don't have access to Mids since I'm on a Mac and can't run it and, additionally, I'm not sure what's best to build for set-wise when working on a PvP build. If anyone is willing to help, can I get either A) roughly 200 mil inf PvP build or, failing that, B) advice on what to slot and where for that kind of budget build. Sooner or later I may go for one of those fancy 2 bil inf builds, but right now I just want something more affordable that'll let me be a lot more competitive in the arena and zones. Luckily, I have a Miracle +Recovery collecting dust in Wents right now I can throw into the build as well without adding to the 200 mil budget.
Also, while I'm at it, which APP would be best to go for? Right now I have Power with Conserve Power, Temp Invuln, Power Build Up, and that risky-but-fun Total Focus, but I'm not sure it's the optimum. How good are the other three? They look more mezzy, which I welcome since I love to return detoggling favors, but don't have as much alternative utility. And Dark looks very iffy since it's melee centric and I suspect Oppressive Gloom may just outright suck, despite sounding fun for messing with melee toons in theory.
