Solo wise I think any would be fine. Probably Fire or Shield (for damage) or Ice or WP (for go power) if straight soloing is your intent.
For straight soloing? Probably either Invuln or Fire. /DB demands a decent amount of power choices be devoted to it to really get the most out of it. As such, pairing it with a fairly free Primary choice makes the most sense.

I forgot about willpower, which is another good choice, as Kruunch mentions.
However, DB cannot be taken with Shields, so it is straight out.

Invulnerability or Willpower. Neither is end heavy, and neither has much for click powers which cause redraw and mess with combos. Invulnerability can be made fairly solid with just four power choices, giving you plenty of room for DB attacks for your combos. WP comes with Quick Recovery which takes care of any endurance problems.
Either will be fine. I prefer Inv, but WP is just as good, perhaps even better for a solo character.

Invuln for soloing? YUCK!!!!!!!!!
Just by virtue of soloing you're skipping a lot of powers (most of the group oriented ones out of your primary and Taunt at the very least out of your secondary) so you have plenty of room for your secondary choices.
And Invuln is clunkier then nuts from a solo perspective until about L30 and then not much better from then on. It's protective ... but not exactly solo friendly (kill fast, kill often being the operative solo definition here).
I like Fire simply because I like to RotP my foes to death 
But honestly I've found Ice and WP much more solo friendly because both have great non-stop power, and Shield outshines Fire in the damage department these days I believe.
Solo? Relatively free primaries are probably for the best.
* Invulnerability - at least for solo, you're likely OK if you skip all of the passives. And it's fairly easy to get both your full primary and most of the secondary if you skip Taunt and have no ambitions to get into the fighting pool, which solo you will hardly need. Solo, you will not need Unstoppable either.
* Fire. The last three powers are purely optional, and so is Temperature Protection. Solo, you don't even have to worry much about knockback either.
*Stone. Once you get Granite everything changes. You will also want to have many, many attacks.

I come from an olddddddd school fire/ice tanker background . I love fire but my concern would be since db seems one target focused would the fear on the fire side make fights a pain trying to chase everything down?
Only Burn has the fear component. If you don't want things running out of it, don't use it that often.

Not really ... Burn has been reduced in size to such that the enemies take two steps away and come running back or you end up chasing them out of the Burn patch.
But having said that, that's probably why Fire isn't a great primary with DB.
well that settles it. I am either gonna go DB/WP scrapper or WP/DB tanker. I just need to decide lol. with the tanker I imagine I can wade into larger groups. but with the scrapper the DPS would be higher and could kill larger groups faster. trying to figure which one is better for soloing and which one lvls faster
The Scrapper will level faster solo than the Tanker will. Hands down.

just wondering whats best primairy to go with dual blades for straight soloing? Also is the damage output on Dual blades decent? I think it sounds like a great and fun tanker.
