so i have been working on soft capping my ss/sd. this is what i came up with.

45.1 melee, 43.7 ranged, 44.7 AoE. the empty slot in True Grit is for the Panacea proc.

I don't even know what to say...That is quite some build there. Did you already buy and slot all that, or is something you are considering doing?

Maybe if you slotted up your defense powers, you could softcap without so many silly slotting choices in other places? And if you're going to five slot taunt for Mocking Beratement, at least grab the sixth one for the 7.5% recharge. That's like a free LOTG. If you're already dead set on it. (And really, I think mocking beratement in taunt was the smartest choice in the build).

I was thinking the same thing. You made the right IO choices for proper bonuses but you can get up to 56% melee defense by actually slotting up your shields.

Drop the 5 slots from brawl and Health only needs a slot or 2. 3 slot Stamina.

So you have the right idea but you just need to be redirected a little bit.

I think you received pretty mild and honest replies, with an appropriate degree of skepticism, given some slotting decisions.

Nonetheless, given that it seems to have been a serious question, I hope you will take away not hurt feelings from the various reactions, but a better understanding of what seems to be taken for granted by more experienced players.

Especially considering, it looked like a very poorly optimized 500 million+ inf build.2

however, this build requires it, since /sd is so squishy. it reminds me of my blaster days.

i had no idea how to slot it, so i gave it a shot.

Sorry buddy but when a toggle exists slotting it is almost always a better plan than trying to get set bonuses.

Here's the powers you drastically under-slotted:
Deflection, Battle Agility, True Grit, Stamina, Weave
And the Powers you over-slotted:
Brawl, Health, Boxing, Tough.

Here's a soft-capped build that also has 70% Recharge, 250% Regen, etc.. Oh and I edited my Mids' to allow me to set allies in range to 0 for Phalanx so this is soft-capped solo too.

Chaos, thank you for your reply and build. very interesting, and i appreciate it.

i had no idea how to slot powers, or even to slot them at all. or what powers to take in some cases.

for instance, i would have assumed that you always 6 slot stamina, but i guess that's because i still remember the old days before mitigation.

i noticed you dont have the Aegis resist psi in there, why not?

also, the +stealth in CJ, i know why that would be good in PvP, but wouldnt it be bad in PvE, since i normally want the aggro? or does it offer some other side benefit that isnt as obvious to me?

i will throw it into Mid's when i get home.

I don't find the Aegis needed when one is soft capped and has Active defense to ward off mez. In fact this build will have double stacked Active defense a fairly large portion of the time.
The +Stealth in Sprint is in case you want to stealth something.

Here's a ridiculously Expensive build that uses the PVP +3% defense IO and assumes one Ally in range.

thanks again Chaos. i should have mentioned earlier that infamy is no object. especially now that it seems i will have to sell my purple sets (am i correct that you can not fit purples into a soft-capped build?).

as for your second build, what is the benefit of using the PvP IOs if i dont get softcapped? i guess the set benefits from them outweigh the difference in defense?

and yes, the FF proc seems too great to not try to squeeze in somewhere. that coupled with the GSFC proc seems like a very good thing.

Using the 3% PvP Defense IO Solo you sit at:
Melee,Ranged, AoE Defense 45.8%, 44.6%, 44.6%
With one ally in range that's Above soft cap. Frankly I find .4% a worthy sacrifice.

i would agree that .4% is no big deal, given the great set bonuses that come with the PvP IOs.

I know you can fit purps in dm and still soft cap can't imagine why ss would be significantly harder. However I'm more interested in how to edit mids so phalanx shows zero allies in range care to share how you went about that?

so what is the best patron pool to take for this build?

i had previously taken Soul for Dark Obliteration and the faster recharge and -hit buff that comes with it.

but i noticed a lot of people taking the Mu pool.

Mu offers 2 AoE attacks to supplement farming. Socketing Ball Lightning with a knockdown proc is priceless.

Leviathon offers a cone AoE with -resist which is priceless.

Soul offers additional defense via -hit buff.
