Provoke + PFF
There are some weak points to this. Its highly likely that a mob will be able to get off a first hit before PFF activates. Also provoke has a duration depending how long it takes to kill the mobs it might wear off before the team can kill them all. Also it effectively removes *you* from the fight which might not be a very good trade off.
magicj has been doing this for years on Controllers, so you might want to go talk to him/her and take a look at what he/she says about it.
I have an FF defender that uses this trick.... sort of.
IO set bonuses allow me to cap ranged and AoE defense. I hover out of melee range and use provoke. The mobs gather under me and shoot at me and it bounces off.
I toggle Force Bubble on and then off as soon as the mobs bounce. Then I toss in an AOE, then I provoke, then I toss in repulsion bomb, then another AoE and start the cycle again.
It works pretty well unless you have an AoE Happy blaster on the team.

Wait...So your not actually using PFF though your using the IO set bonuses.

Yep. The only time I use PFF is when most of the team is dead, I'm def debuffed into oblivion, or when I need the resists that PFF provides (40% to all but toxic.)

I haven't tried it with Provoke... but it works, sort of, with Voltaic Sentinel.
It's good if you have a scaredytank on your team, anyway, because it usually embarasses them into starting fights.

So you think you're a hero, huh.
@Boltcutter in game.
Yeah, that's usually what I use PFF for right now, tanking for the scared/lazy tank or filling in if we don't have one to begin with. It's interesting to see a team that can't handle a mob if they get hit with the alpha do just fine with the same mob if they don't eat it (though usually those teams need to quit inviting players who are -4 and so to the enemies). I might take Provoke down the road when I need a filler power. Though that may be after I see if Defenders are getting any sort of gun so I'll know for sure if I'll be rerolling that toon.
As an FYI if the FF/ defender you are playing is an FF/Dark, the mobs that you provoke under you stay there if you use Tenebrious Tenticles on them.
My FF that uses this tactic is an FF/Dark/Dark. Provoke costs no end so it gives you some relief on your blue bar. The AoEs that I alternate are T_T and Nightfall.

I was looking at the Presence pool and wondering what possible uses are there for the first two powers outside of letting Scrappers "scrank" more effectively and Masterminds draw aggro off their minions while in bodyguard mode. Then, it hit me: Provoke + Personal Force Field. Theoretically, a Forcefields Defender could taunt a mob and then immediately drop into PFF and just stand there and watch the mobs attack fruitlessly, letting teammates attack without risk (though there wasn't much risk to begin with if you're a FF Defender). Has anyone tried this before? I can't look into it's potential effectiveness myself at the moment and won't be able to for some time, but this sounds like a nifty way for FF to protect a team even more than it already does and tank better than the tank.
