A quick question back role playing
Portal Corp mission
I think the usual explanation for the different servers is something along the lines of alternate dimension.
[Admin] Emperor Marcus Cole: STOP!
[Admin] Emperor Marcus Cole: WAIT ONE SECOND!
[Admin] Emperor Marcus Cole: WHAT IS A SEAGULL DOING ON MY THRONE!?!?
I treat the different servers like the different Earths in DC comics.
I start counting alphabetically so Champion is Earth-1, Freedom is Earth-2, etc.
I think a spectacular way to do it is to do some kind of rant about dimensional forces or some such, "self-destruct" using the self-destruct power, log out, server transfer, and then appear all of a sudden (use an Awaken) on the other server with comments about what happened, etc.
Of course for maximum impact, self-destruct where people witness it and reappear where people witness it. (I'm assuming you will "reappear" on the new server where you were on the one that you were originally on - so it's really the same spot.)
You could always go for the waking up in the hospital thinking you are sick or something as the world isn't quite the same way you remember it.
Dramatic fore-shadowing in character leading up to your sudden "dimensional shift", the more time the better, is just the RP icing on the cake.
I never even saw a reason to rp it. If you belong to an rp sg that spans two servers I could see it maybe. It seems on the same level as rping clicking your CoH desktop icon or turning on your computer, or upgrading your graphics card.
Another classic of hero stories is the idea that the hero's arch-nemesis finally manages to trap the hero, but leary of actually killing him/her (the hero possesses knowledge the villian might need later, the two are linked magically by a prophesy, the villian respects the hero, the villian wants the hero to live with the knowledge that he/she was beaten, ect), instead sends them into an alternate world as a form of banishment/exile.
Another possibility is that the hero got caught in a scientific accident that did the same thing.
Last one is that each server is another world in the vast universe, each in a duplicate star system engineered by a super-advanced race known as The First Ones for some hidden purpose. The hero is transported to one of these other worlds and is now trying to discover who these First Ones are and what their plans are.
Just a few suggestions.
Those who think Truth is relative haven't had a Tank land on their car.
Thanks for the help i think i know how to explain it now.
Ok I have some experience RPing (I use to play D&D and other paper and dice RPing games.) my only question is how would i role play a sever transfer?
