Ice/? Defender?
[ QUOTE ]
Can someone give me the rundown on what pairs well with Ice on a defender? I just started an Ice/Ice defender today, but want to know if that's going to be a good character in the long run before I invest many hours taking him to 50. And oh yeah, I plan on doing a fair bit of soloing, but also want to be viable when I join groups.
Thanks in advance,

[/ QUOTE ]Create a dual build. One for solo and one for team. Thats what I did. To help you out slot the first debuff power with he achilies heel resistance IO. That will sometimes proc and allow you to do a bit more damage.

Thank You Devs for Merits!!!!
Cold/Ice is quite viable all the way through and, due mostly to the slows, makes a pretty decent soloing Defender as well since it gives you some room to kite the tougher foes. Enjoy!
Generally speaking there's no such thing as a 'bad character in the long run' in this game, there's no powerset or AT that turns into a dud later in the game. Some bloom earlier than others, of course, but they all bring something to the table.
Probably the only thing I can think of that actually becomes increasingly useless is people who build their Defenders exclusively to heal, as buffs and debuffs take on an increasingly prominent role as you move further into the game.

My gut feeling is that Cold/Ice is a good way to go.
Cold/Psi (AoE -recharge hell), Cold/Dark (deflected and rejected), Cold/Sonic (AoE -resist hell), and Cold/Rad or Cold/Archery (big AoE damage) also look like they'd be good options. If your playstyle or concept steers you toward one of those secondaries, go for it. Otherwise, Cold/Ice is still great.
For teaming the Cold shields are a big bonus from the low levels on up. Dual builds will let you run a shield 'form' with a solo form.
The other big selling point in my opinion is the triple rain attack. Sleet, ice storm, and then blizzard can be targetted from a position without physical line of sight (around corners); there isn't even an alpha to eat on that sequence!
I can attest to Cold/Sonic as being very viable too.

HelinCarnate:OMG it is so terrible. I have the option to take 3 more powers but no additional slots. Boo F'ing hoo.
Cold/ Ice may be a bit tought to chew through until you get your ice storm. Just from a satisfaction route. You may feel like something is missing. Sure your sheilds may be popular but its a tough road until you get your 2 rains. Once you get your blizzard (3rd rain) you'll feel that you can handle anything..... Now if you could only get artic air....
