Unable to start using 9800gt

I recently downloaded the trial version of CoH via the official page, and the game simply will not start. Every time I try to run the program, it gives me an error message:

You card or driver doesn't support GL_ARB_multitexture

It also gives a second error window that tells me I need a GeForce 200 series or better. I use two Geforce 9800 gt linked via SLI. If this issue has been addressed elsewhere, I formally apologize, but it seems to me like a game several years old should be able to accept a 9800.

I personally use the 9600, and I know several people that play with a 9800. I'd like a screenshot of that second error saying you need a 200 Series or better. I haven't heard of that yet.

As for the first error you are getting, sometimes it can be fixed with a simple driver update, and/or by using a Windows hotfix.

Also, I've heard mostly bad things about trying to use SLi with CoX, so maybe if you temporarily disable it and try again, we can see if that's the problem.

I updated the driver today, and even tried with SLI off. Neither of which helped anything. I coppied the error message word for word here. (photobucket is being a pain to me for some reason)

Detected video card or driver is currently unsupported NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT .
The game may run poorly or not at all with you current configuration.
Current system requirements are NVidia GeForce 2 or better, ATI Radeon 8500 or better, or an Intel GMA 900 or better.
(If your card does meet the minimum requirements, you might not have the latest drivers. Go to www.nvidia.com, www.ati.com, or www.intel.com to update your driver. In some cases, such as laptops, you may need to get the latest drivers from your computer manufacturer.)
Do you want to continue?

That would a GeForce2 not a GeForce 200. I have a 9800GTX that runs the game just fine. Did you uninstall the old drivers or just update them?

I ran setup on the new driver a second time, threw my old driver in the recycle bin, and shut down my computer. The game is still giving me the same error message.

That's not how you install drivers, or uninstall. Deleting the driver *install* file doesn't actually delete the drivers installed on your computer. Installing drivers over drivers can lead to problems.

Now, to properly - fully - uninstall the old drivers and reinstall the new drivers.

1. Navigate to the the Programs window: (Start -> Computer -> Control Panel -> Programs and Features)
2. Find the "Nvidia Drivers" listed in the list.
3. Click "Uninstall/Change" near the top of the list. Uninstall your video drivers only, if the option comes up. (The other board drivers are not to blame.) Let it do its thing.
4. Reboot when prompted. As it is rebooting, begin step #5.
5. While the PC is rebooting, before it brings up the first windows splash screen, begin tapping continually on the F8 key. (If it boots into regular windows, simply try again.) This should bring up the "Windows Advanced Options Menu", a black and white "dos" style menu. Use your arrow keys to move to "Safe Mode" and press your Enter key.Once the PC is booted successfully into safe mode...
6. Navigate on your hard drive to where you saved the Driver Sweeper utility to. Run Driver Sweeper and select the Nvidia Display drivers. Clean "sweep" them. Once that is complete...
7. Reboot, again, this time not hitting F8, going back into "regular" Windows Vista.
8. Navigate on your hard drive to where you saved the new drivers to and install them, following any prompts they include.
9. Reboot when prompted.
