Only getting 8 FPS

I recently upgraded my computer's graphics card and power source.

I was expecting to see a big increase in graphics while playing COH for but some reason I haven't. In fact, things seem to run a bit slower now. (Although I have turned the graphics up).

Can anyone help me figure out why?

Thanks in advance.

Your system chokepoint is, by a large margin, your CPU. The good news is that it's upgradeable - you can at least stick a 1066MHz FSB Core 2 Duo in it. Newegg has only two such processors still for sale, but either of them will fit the bill:
Wolfsdale E7400 (2.8 GHz)
Wolfsdale E7500 (2.93 GHz)

On the flipside, you have a bunch of garbage running in the background that eats up CPU cycles, so getting rid of them will help a bit. You can, without question, get rid of Spybot. Uninstall it - it's obsolete as far as scanning is concerned. The other major you might consider getting rid of is McAfee. If this is your dedicated gaming rig and your don't surf the web on it, McAfee is just slowing you down. If not, McAfee is somewhat of a resource hog (although there's worse out there) and you might replace it with something less so, such as NOD32 or BitDefender.

You can also use HijackThis to clean out some the other junk in your system. Here's what you can "fix" for sure:

There are a few more things you might be able to "fix" depending on how you use them, but even if you're not comfortable messing around in HijackThis, the general rule of thumb is to uninstall it if you're not using it anymore

Edit: Found the motherboard model in the DirectX report. Shut up, it's late.

I would recommend turning on the advance graphics options and try turning off Depth of Field, Bloom and maybe turn down the Water Effects a notch and see how much they affect your framerate. (/showfps 1 if you didn't know).

Also reduce the World Detail to 100%. World Detail determines how "far" you can see fixed objects and while 200% is pretty and all, it does load down the CPU with the setup work for the video card.

Remember to keep your hard drive defragged. When it has to search for files it slows down your whole system.

I had this idea about playing the game from a flash drive....I wonder how that would do. They are faster than hard drives if you plug into the usb 2.0

Incorrect. A decent modern hard drive will beat out a USB flash drive rather thoroughly. A solid state disk is a different story.

You've updated the graphics card, but the Operating System is a mess.

Forget about selectively weeding out aggressive background programs, back up your data, reformat your hard drive and reinstall your programs and data.

As you do so, keep running HijackThis to keep an eye on what programs are putting themselves in the registry to keep themselves active and controlling. Don't let them. Right now, more than half your memory is being eaten up by all these aggressive programs, add in over 1 Gig of memory that CoH uses, and you're back to using the hard drive as virtual memory... no wonder you're slowed down to a crawl.

That CPU plus graphics card plus RAM should allow for medium level graphics at a good fps -- provided CoH is the only program running at the time.

Well a 200x Flash Drive has quite a respectable response time. Also, file fragmentation isn't much of a concern with Flash Drives.

I heartily support using an SSD though. That will be what goes into my next computer.

Yes but the USB interface itself is a limiting factor (slower than HD) plus the higher CPU overhead.

Exactly. USB 3 might change that, though.
