Login Locks Up

Hello all, this is my first time here as I only completed the download and patching of CoH this morning.

I was keen to try another game, and this one looked impressive; so I created a trial account and went to log in.

I could type my username in so long as I was quite fast, but clicking elsewhere on the screen it froze up.

My mouse could move, but I could not click on anything.

I am deeply dismayed, as I was very much looking forward to playing this tonight. (Last night I was bored out of my mind.)

Please give me any and all advice you have.

*I am running a Macbook Pro, it's hardware should be more than fine.

Ok, I can get past that screen provided I don't use my mouse; just press tab to get to password, and enter to login.

Now I am stuck on server selection as apparently a single click from my mouse sets this thing off.

I assume the log in server is down...or it's just a Nemesis plot to keep me from playing at work.

Ah.... no ^-^;

I can log in if I use tab to get to the password box and then ener rather than clicking on login.

The server list does appear, but when I try to click it wont do anything, and I can't do anything after - ie, mousing over or clicking the "go back" button will not work.

Music plays and the mouse moves, but it wont work.

It's incredibly frustrating.

Im having the exact same issue, i was hoping to try this but its making it extremely dificult to continue to want to.

if im having issues even logging in, what are the bugs in the actual game going to be like??

if someone knows how to fix this, please tell us how, im also on a macbook pro.

Glad someone else is in the same boat; if there's us 2 there must be more; and someone probably has managed to fix it by now.

I wonder if people running it under bootcamp have the same issues? I'd try that, but man, it's a BIG download to do a second time, and I don't want to blow all my downloads on something that may or may not work.

I, like I assume you, am not used to having any issues like this on my Mac; and am also extremely frustrated and upset.

I felt like this game might be my new thing for at least a few months, but the frustration of this makes me want to cry >.<' I can't find anything on Google about it for Mac.

Someone help us!

well..back to WoW for me i think.

ive been trying to get into this game for 3 months now, with repeated problems downloading and installing and now that im finally close to actually logging in it just gets worse. i dont view this as a sign of better experiences to come.

*sigh* just one more game that comes up with a mac version thats a mere shadow of the PC version. i quit.

Kinda surprised someone hasn't gone through the "hahaha get a real computer" trolling on this thread yet. What operating system are you running, for starters? OS X?

Well you have a Mac so you would have better luck asking players in the Mac area of the forum than the players here in the tech board. Mac support is relatively new and most of us are PC people.

That's assuming you are running naively on your Mac and not using Bootcamp to run XP or Vista.

Anyone getting can't connect to database server? I can login and and see the list of servers just fine. When I click one, that's when I get that message.

after I type in my password I get the error
"The game client was unable to connect to the login server. This may be due to a local network issue such as a firewall block, or may be because the login server is down for maintenance. Please check your network settings and try again, or check http://www.cityofheroes.com/servers/index.html for current server status"

Just an fyi that Technical Support is not provided by NCsoft on the forums. When you post to the forums, players are most likely to pitch in with their experiences.

If you would like assistance from NCsoft's Technical Support Team for your Mac issue, I would recommend filing a Support Ticket.

I have gotten this a few times before, too... and I've played for 3 years.
Though it's very rare that it happens, I normally close the game out, then reopen it, and it all seems to work.

Paragon Studios, thanks for all you've done. You've made this a great game, and a great community. I see this as six years well-spent. NCSoft, I'm seriously disappointed in you. This is not how you get or keep customers.

Mine is a Linux box (SuSE), and I play using Cedega -- its parent company, TransGaming, is partnered with NCSoft in making City of Heroes available for Mac. After a recent update in the Cedega engine, I experienced this exact same problem -- I got logged in, but was unable to click on the servers. I fell back to the previous version of the engine, and it works just fine. Obviously that's not an option for you, but the two problems may well be related...

I've had problems with Windows Vista in the past, where I would go to log in and then I couldn't click on anything, it seemed. What it ended up being was the system didn't like that the program updates itself, assumed that it was a potential virus at work, and wouldn't let me connect to the login server because of it. When it put up its window, however, City stayed up visually, and so I couldn't see that another small window was active, and I couldn't Alt-Tab to it. I ended up having to keep another window open (My Documents), have the error pop up, switch to My Documents through Alt-Tab, and then the little window became active.

I have no idea if this is the error you're dealing with, but it may help in your own troubleshooting.
