Glitching on Game and Character Creation Screens

I am new to City of Heroes, just picked up the game tonight, and I have to say i'm a bit dissappointed and frustrated. I have been trying to play this game and things just aren't working, so I was wondering if anyone could help. First of all I am on Windows XP and I play WOW daily with no graphic trouble to speak of, so I don't think it's my operating system, but when I go into my character creation screen the bottom half of the screen is unrecognizable. From about the knee/boots down you cant make out anything but colors. I tried using safe mode and was able to create my character but not only were the graphics terrible but when I went into the world things froze, characters body parts were radomly strowed across the screen, etc. I tried going back in, not using safe mode, and the problem persisted inside the world. The complete bottom half of the screen was blanked out with colors and lines. Is there anything I can do to fix this problem as I would really like to play this game. Thanks!

CoH uses more resources than you think.. even more than WoW. The system requirements listed for CoH are severely understated after 5 years of updates. People often times run WoW (or other graphic-detailed games) without a problem, but then find out they would need an upgrade to run CoH decently.

Provide us a screenshot of what you are talking about if you can.

Run CoH_Helper and post the results here.

Then we can take a look and see if we can find out what we think the trouble might be, and if it's an easy fix or not. It could be anything from the the video overheating or not being compatible. Sometimes, it's even as easy enough as updating a driver. I hope that ends up being the case.

Coh is much more graphically intensive than WoW. Provide your CoH helper as mentioned above but odds are that you need to update your video drivers.

Don't count your weasels before they pop dink!

I could not run your COH Helper program, it failed to initialize every time I tried opening it, however I did run the hijack program to see if that would help. Here are my results:

This program uses Microsoft's .Net Framework 2.0 to run. Most modern PCs already have the framework installed but there are a few out there that don't have it yet. I would suggest you try to run the program and, if you immediately get an error, then you probably need to get the framework. Microsoft's 2.0 Framework can be found here or you could search Microsoft's site for an even more recent version of the framework.

This game played great on my 9850 Pro back in 2005.
Here, 4 years later that's not so true. And being a laptop you don't have much you can do. Maybe one of the other tech heads can help, but all I can say is ouch.

You have very little RAM (the game can often use over 1GB by itself these days), and almost no hard drive space left.

The small amount of RAM and the older video card/driver are really hindering your performance. I'm surprised the system isn't running out of resources and crashing entirely. Trying to run all that anti-virus and iTune software with that little memory at the same time as playing a game doesn't sound like fun.

I suggest cleaning some unwanted files off your hard drive and defragging, regardless of your CoH issues.

Sorry for the bad news.

Better yet turn it all down your sys cant handle that on this game get a gig of ram or 2 and then u can up it "some"

If your going to play so u can see how nice it is get a desktop or update your laptop "big time"

If you need ram for you laptop email me your pin number to the ram so i can see if the 10 i have one might fit your laptop
and ill just give it to ya,

You really do need a better video card and that i cant help ya with but the ram i might be able to no charge i dont need them
and i'm more then willing to get them off my hands

184-Pin DIMM Memory if thats it i got one its 2 gigs but see if your mother board can do a 2 gig ram befor i give it to ya
