Kneeling ally
Experiment with the animations. Waiting/looking seems to work. Not all animations work with all characters.
Don't do what one person did. every rescue feature a barfing civilian. i could find them easy enough but didn't want to get too near... :P
I have an ally in my arc. He is set to rampage-throw rock. Works fine. Try switching to one that the animation works on then switch to the one you want. That worked for me.
No, I mean there is no option for an animation. I can't set any animation at all. There's a place to set the animation for the enemy surrounding the ally, but not the ally.
I must be missing something. I thought it was possible, and you all say it's possible, so I must just be staring right at it and not seeing it. I'll look again tonight.

Under the ally tab on page 2 of your mission, you should have an animations tab. In that there are 4 options. Enemy Group Starting Animation, Ally Starting Animation, Ally Rescue Animation, and Ally Stranded Animation.
I do see the same options under both standard and custom ally type. Hope that helps!

I swear that's exactly where I was looking, and the only option was "Enemy Group Starting Animation". Did I just not scroll down or something stupid like that? I don't know, but I'm looking forward to going home to find out.

Something weird happened to me the other day where the MA UI got really, really messed up. Things I clicked on did not give me pop-up menus appropriate to the context, options were in the wrong place. I have no idea how I got in that state but I had to force-quit the game (the menu wasn't working) and restart to clear it up.
And for a while things were cold,
They were scared down in their holes
The forest that once was green
Was colored black by those killing machines
Nope, I'm not crazy. It must be a bug of some sort. The only option under "Animations" is "Enemy Group Starting Animation". Nothing else. I tried deleting the ally and adding it again. No change.
For an escort, I see 5 different options under animation. For an ally, just one.
I just added another ally, and this time I can see all four options. So strange. So I deleted that Ally and added another one, being careful to follow the steps in the exact same order as the I did the last time that I couldn't see the extra options. But this time I can see the extra options. Sigh. I already /bugged it. The poor QA folks hate bugs that you can't reproduce, but now I can't seem to make it happen again.
Well, thanks for confirming that the other options should be there.
EDIT: Ah, I think I can reliably reproduce it now. If the ally is the same faction as the enemy group for the map, then the extra animations vanish. (I wanted to have a traitor on the map, sort of. It's part of the story.)

Entirely possible....I am assuming that you are using a ally that has these animations available to begin with.

Well, the ally is the same faction as the enemy on the map, and I do get animation options for them. Clockwork, so maybe there are limits to what they can do. The little animation window on the side had no trouble showing them doing all kinds of animations, though.

I've had this same issue occur to me. There are some mobs, for some factions, that simply do NOT give you the option to assign them an animation if you're inserting them as an ally.
Just a few examples from personal experience:
Abominations
Dr. Vahzilok
Red Cap Fiends
All three of the above, when I've attempted to insert them into missions as an ally, have only granted the option to assign the animation of the surrounding enemy group, and nothing else. There simply is no option to give certain allies any animation other than the default kneeling animation.
Well, maybe that will be addressed by the I15 MA improvements.

And the OP's problem is with Clockwork, right?
a-HA!
What do all these enemies have in common? They don't use regular human being models! Their animations in the regular game are unique to the, right? Only the Vahz, for instance, walk with their arms swinging side-to-side.
Customized animations for non-standard character types is a lot of work for the devs; they've said so on these forums. That must have something to do with it.

Some things aren't showing up, and in one of my arcs, the Ally and Enemy animations were reversed. It magically fixed itself during the next test, but then the drop-down menus got reversed.
Computers are glitchy. Keep trying.

I was editing an arc with an ally in it, and I noticed that there is no animation option for the ally. They have to start out kneeling, no matter what, even if they are set to be singular - all alone with no one holding them captive. Did there used to be options for animations there, or was I just imagining that? It's a little awkward to have the ally kneeling all alone in the hallway, waiting for the player to show up.
