How do I . . . (adding allies)
Make him a captive, set the surrounding enemy group to Single, and he will spawn already free and waiting for the player to come by. You'll have to experiment a bit to find a spawn point close to the entrance since you can't set where they spawn. Give them some appropriate dialog and you're good to go.
You can check out my arc "Tales of the PPD: One Hell of a Deal" for an example of this technique, with the over-eager ally captive in the first instance, and then always just waiting for you near the door in further missions.

Realize that the spawn locations can just be wonky. I learned about that ally set to single trick earlier this week, but his location can still be all over, even though he's set to "front." I'll sometimes have to cut through several mobs before I can get to him.
Rather frustrating, but that's how it is, currently.

If I could ask a dumb question; for "surrounding enemy group" I don't have the option for "Single" in the MA editor or do you make this edit to the actual text file of the mission? Still learning all the tricks.

ok I figure out my problem I was looking at Free Captive option instead of Ally option.

Make an ally advanced mission objective I create so that they appear at the begginning of a mission so that he will fight with the players?
I don't want him being held captive, or have a surrounding enemy group.
