Anyone know wiki?

Hey all. I am searching for someone that knows about media wiki.
Not how to edit your pages but how to set it up. I am trying to set up one on a website and it is frustrating me. I have the wiki uploaded but I cant seem to figure out how to edit and change the sidebar on the left.

I am also having trouble enabling the ability to upload small files (ie pictures) to the wiki.

Does anyone now anything?

Have you looked at this section of upload variables, specifically $wgEnableUploads? And the skin configuration page, specifically the side bar section?
