"Perhaps..." Meaghan quirked a smile, "I don't like to be caged, I get claustrophobic when I'm restrained." She stood and picked up the metal chair, then walked over to the doorway and propped the leg against the handle. With a few strong, quick tugs, the handle popped off with the lock and the door slowly swung ajar.

"Stay here if you want," She turned to Hunter with a smile, "But they need to learn to play by my rules; I'm leaving." And with that she walked out into the hallway toward the elevators.

Hunter frowned and considered for a moment, lightly rubbing his left wrist. It wasn't as though he could really run. They could find him wherever he went. He got to his feet and followed his sister. If they wanted to make a deal out of it, they knew how to contact him.

"So where are you staying?" he asked her as they reached the elevators.

((I think we're all eventually going to get to the point where we're waiting for doodaa))

((Geez, sorry, my comp passed away. Had to get a new one and all that.))

Blake stood there, his eyebrow raised while the lizard-man went off and then left. "Yeah, getting to relax will finally be a change," he said, smiling as they started again to walk towards the apartments. He thought about telling Alex about why he had taken his chances with the lizard, but decided not to. It was a dream after all.

As Hunter and 'Sarah' pressed the elevator button and as the door opened, they would be surprised to find Deputy Director Jones standing in the small room. His eyebrow raised slightly. "I was informed I would have time for questioning, you two," he said gruffly, pointing back towards the interrogation room. "Go. Now," he said, pushing Hunter slightly.

((YAY!! Feel the love))

Hunter scowled slightly but headed back to the interrogation room. He gave his sister a questioning look, knowing she would only come back if she decided to on her own. He, however, didn't feel like pushing his luck.

Meaghan had to restrain herself from slamming Jones into the ground after pushing her brother and ordering him back to the interrogation room; after all, a move like that would have most of the DPSA on her back. Instead, she slightly frowned at her brother as he walked away and the elevator doors began to close.

"I'll catch you at your apartment," She waved goodbye to him, "Take care okay. And Jones...behave yourself." And with that, the doors closed and she disappeared to who knows where.

"I suppose it's pointless to ask what this is about," Hunter muttered as he reentered the interrogation room with Jones right behind him.

Alex looked up at Mabel's street-side window and didn't see the woman there. Good, she's probably gnawing on someone's ear at the moment. Carefully, she walked up the steps of the stoop and peered in behind the door...entrance was clear and looked like a straight shot to her apartment door.

"Soo, uh," Alex talked back to Blake, "I'll catch ya later...wanna meet at your place or mine?"

Blake smirked. "Probably yours unless you want to get annoyed to death by my baby sister," He opened the door for her and bowed slightly, snickering. He gave a half wave as she went in then closed the door, walking around the building until he saw the window to his apartment. "Going up," he muttered to himself. His feet suddenly caught ablaze, sending a couple of sparks to the side. He slowly rose up in the air until he reached his window, opening it and sliding inside, his feet sputtering out as he closed the window behind him.

He was in his own room, which looked like a tornado had just hit it. Clothes, cans of soda and packages of who-knew-what were laying around. Blake ignored it and opened the door to find an empty apartment. She's probably with her friends somewhere he thought on impulse, silently praying that he was right. As he took a step into his 'living room', Erik's voice suddenly spoke in his head. He let out an uncharacteristic shout in surprise and looked around the room, expecting to see him. When he saw no one, he tried to attempt to focus on the rest of the 'message'.

Blake sighed. He didn't know how Erik did it, but the important part was that he had to leave in an hour. He collapsed on the couch and flipped on the TV, checking the time to make sure he left when he was supposed to.

-----------------------------------------

Jones saw the look Meaghan gave him and ignored it. He was Deputy Director, he got a lot of looks like that. "No Hunter, you probably don't," he said, opening the door of the room and motioning him in, then closing the door behind them. "Sit," he ordered, but not taking a seat himself. "I know half of this myself, Black, but this is recorded and it'd look bad on my records if I didn't start with this. Defenders of Men. Give me some info. Anything, really, just don't lie," Jones looked Hunter directly in the eye when he said the last part.

Hunter sat down with a sigh. He spoke in a flat, bored voice, like a history teacher listing pointless dates and facts for a quiz.

"The Defenders of Man were officially founded in 1947 by Howard Brentley of London England. They were a natural outcome of his war activities fighting the Nazis. For roughly ten years they were a positive force, aiding the West in it's cold war efforts against communism by uniting people to the ideal that Man is the ultimate expression of evolution on Earth. Around 1960, this ideology was twisted by a new leader to exclude mutants. By the 70's the Defenders were committing acts of terrorism against any they considered Enemies of Man. This list included mutants, aliens, supernatural powers, and anyone who used them or sided with them. They continue down this path today. They are commanded by a Council of Twelve consisting of three Gold Defenders, each in command of a territory known as a theater, and nine Silver Defenders who act as Lieutenants to the Golds. There are only three Golds and nine Silvers at any time. Subsequent ranks are as follows: Red, Yellow, Blue, Green, White, Black, and Gray. Is that enough information for you, sir?"

[u]Freedom Court (Rear)[u]

Erik sat on a bench, his umbrella looming over him as he watched people move along. He mentally checked what time it was - right around an hour after he had detected his message had been received. 'So Blake should be here relatively soon.' Erik thought. While he had been waiting for confirmation, he had checked in with the task-force he was part of. The pattern of "hunts" throughout the city was holding, as expected...Except for Talos Island, which until recently had been one of the more active spots with five occurrences monthly before suddenly dropping to zero. It had been then that the entire pattern had changed, or rather shifted. Independence Port rose from three occurrences to five, with corresponding changes through every city zone except Peregrine Island and the Hazard Zones...

It was like some sort of countdown.

'And everybody on the task-force save Vanessa has noticed it, naturally. This may be our only opportunity to stop the hunts dead in their tracks. If we miss it, months could pass until we get another chance. And then it may be too late...' Erik stared at the ground almost solemnly as he thought while waiting for Blake.

"Thanks for making my day, Hunter, we're now involved in fighting the Rainbow Squad," Jones said, sighing. "Alright, well, let's start from the top. You know any of these Gold Members besides," Jones looked down at a folder on the table and took out a picture of Chen "This guy?"

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Blake looked at the clock. An hour had gone by, so he got up and went for the door. As he locked it behind him, he remembered he had said he would meet up with Alex. "Erik can wait a second," he muttered to himself, then jogged down the halls and made his way towards Alex's place. As he got there, he knocked on the door quickly, glancing at the clock in the hallway.

"Lochlan Macmorough is Gold One," Hunter said without hesitation. "I've never worked closely with Gold Two. Gold Three, as of two years ago, was Martina Ruez and Chen was one of her lieutenants. I don't know what happened to cause his promotion."

Deputy Director Jones jotted down the name of Gold One, as well as drawing an arrow to the picture of Chen and writing Gold Three, as well as 'Replaced Martina Ruez' "I don't care if you've never worked with him, do you know his name?" Jones continued after he was done. "And if you know any of the Silvers, tell me their names, too."

Alex was in the bathroom pulling on a black T-shirt when she heard the knock on the door. Her hair was still wet from the shower she just finished to get the grim off from the Pizza Port incident, so she quickly brushed it back so water wouldn't drip down her face.

"I'm coming!" She called at the door and in a few moments she was looking through the peephole. She smiled when she saw it was Blake and promptly opened the door, "Heya there. What's up?"

Posted

" 'Ello, Alex," Blake said, seeing her hair dripping behind her. Probably should have taken a shower Blake thought and frowned slightly, then forgot about it. "Ah, I know I said we could hang out, actually just hang out, but Erik, uh, left me a message. He wants to talk about the giant wolf-thingy," He scratched the back of his neck and smiled apologetically "Although I'll come over later if Erik doesn't keep me to long,"

Posted

Hmmmm, what could Erik want with Blake... But Alex let that thought pass out of mind; she figured she'd just hang in her room until either Blake returned or she fell asleep.

"No problem," Alex smiled at Blake, "I'll probably still be here when you return, so feel free to knock. Though be careful when you're out there, I don't want you to get attacked by another wolf...because I won't be there to save you." She playfully stuck her tongue out at this last part.

"Ha ha ha," Blake said, smiling "See ya later, Alex." With that he gave half a wave and jogged down the hall, bounding down some steps until he reached the main lobby. Nodding to the woman behind the desk he left, standing outside for a second before taking a small running start, then his feet caught on fire again and he took to the skies, flying above the streets of Galaxy as he made his way towards Freedom Court.

When Blake arrived, he dropped down near Back Alley Brawler and looked around, expecting to see Erik. He didn't see him at first, so he jogged around the side, then saw the albino. "Hey Erik," Blake said as he approached "You called? Or, ah, left me a, uhm, message?

Posted

"The latter." Erik responded, not even bothering to look at Blake as he arrived. "Please have a seat. About the encounter earlier." And now the albino deigned to meet Blake with his eyes. "You are going to be targeted soon. These wolves have been covertly hunting throughout every city zone. They are a large pack, and this pack has a leader. Previous experiences have confirmed that this leader hunts down those who kill members of the pack. Five heroes have had contact with this leader. Four are dead, and recordings revealed that they attacked it on sight. The remaining survivor claims that this leader had no hostile intentions and merely issued a warning not to kill anymore members of the pack. Do you see where I am heading with this?"

"I do not know the identity of Gold Two," Hunter replied a bit impatiently. "Nor do I know any of the Silvers active in the Pacific theater. Silver Seven is, or was, Kian Macmorough. Chen was Silver Three. I don't know who would have been promoted in his place. The only other Silver who's name I know is Thomas..." He scowled as he thought of Lochlan's enforcer.
"I don't know his last name," he added quietly.

Blake did as he was told and sat down on the ground, stretching his legs out and leaning back on his arms. As Erik went on, Blake's dread grew. "And I- we, killed a member of the pack," he said and ran a hand through his hair. "Ain't that cheery news," he muttered, then looked up at Erik and asked "So, what do we do? You just come to warn me or what?"

------------------------------------------------

Deputy Director Jones scribbled down a couple of things as Hunter said them, then looked up with mild anger. "Cut the attitude, Black, and you'll live longer," he said before continuing "Any major hideouts you know of? Or houses of any senior members?"

"No, sir," Hunter replied coldly. "At least not in this country. The only major bases I am aware of are in the Europe and Africa, and none of the senior members are foolish enough to remain in one place for long. So even if I did know where some of them were two years ago, that information is old and they would no longer be there. Sir."

"As I mentioned, these hunts have been going on for a while now. They endanger everybody in the city, as they operate almost unseen in every zone with occasional outbursts like the one we took a part in. I am part of a task-force trying to put a stop to it. Our goal is to either capture or eliminate this mysterious leader. So I am here to ask. Would you be willing to help us catch whatever is behind these hunts?"

Back at the Apartments:

Sirrah heard Mabel's dog stop barking and decided it was safe to venture out. It was late in the afternoon, and there was much she wished to accomplish before dark. She peaked her head out of her door, the door of apartment 201, and saw Mabel still in the hall, talking to their landlord. Sirrah sighed. She hadn't been able to come up with the money for rent yet. She carefully closed her door and went to the fire escape that led out into the ally between the apartment and the next building. She swung over the rail and let her self glide to the ground, mentally controlling her fall.

Nyte had intended to return to her apartment after the others had gone thier own way..but had been sidetracked by text message from one of her comrades. she was in the process of replying when the expanding pressence of another person caughth er attention.

Normally such a thing was not worth noticing..afterall people were constantly moving in and out of Nytes mental radar, for the most part she ignored it..filtered it out as background noise...once in a while however something would catch her attention. Something like someone approaching her from above in the middle of an alley and clearly not useing the noisy fire escape.

Glancing over she quirked an eyebrow at the person landing apparantly under her own willpower, not that that was unusual in Paragon.

"Sneaking out?"

She questioned the new arrival.
