Zloth's DemoLauncher Framerate

Hey Folks,

First... Lovin' the DemoLauncher/DemoEdit -- Thank you Zloth!

But...

Why is it that I can get 30 FPS while recording with FRAPS in-game at the highest quality but when I launch a demo in the DemoLauncher and try to record with FRAPS -- even at medium quality -- I get like 5 FPS? What gives? Is there a workaround? Tweak?

EDIT: Also, Why is there no 1280 X 720 Resolution in the DemoLauncher?

(Since I read that Zloth is thinking about a UI re-write...)

As long as we're asking about res... Please allow us to enter a custom resolution setting! (And remember it)

Dunno, I don't use FRAPS much.

If you are using Vista, make sure you are running the game under the same account as you normally play the game. If you normally enter your admin password to play the game then right click the demo launcher and run it as admin as well. That way it will use your real game settings.

Make sure you haven't got any advance settings left on, either. If the demo launcher is craking up the vis scale to 400, that would certainly slow you down. Quick way to check this is to turn on the "show command" option in the bottom left.

Cuz I don't know what crazy widescreen options you LCD people have these days! "My Default" should make it run at whatever your normal game settings are.

BUT - if you really want, you can just type in any resolution you want. Just give it the same format as the other resolutions.

BUT - dang thing has a bug in it. It's trimming an extra character off somewhere.

BUT - I fixed it. Version 2.0.2.1 is now ready for download at the same old place. Also fixed a similar bug that was causing the fool thing to think you were not pulling your demo from the demo directory.

Well. It did amp up some of my fram-rate and the resolution feature is awesome!

But, I'm still only getting 15FPS with FRAPS recording. I have a pretty decent comp:

NVIDIA 8500 GT
4 Gigs Ram
3.0 GHZ Processor
Vista

any ideas?

I don't use Fraps, so not sure if it does it, but ZDSoft let's you force a recording framerate. I got mine set at 30, that way it will only drop down to about 25 at the lowest, but still able to go up past 30.

Also, turn Everything off!

Leave only your Windows System stuff, Demo Launcher and Fraps. No IM's, music, video, AV or Spyware, no torrents, turn it all off.

Also, run CCleaner, defrag, make sure drivers are updated, etc.

Remember that this is just a midgrade card, not meant to run high end graphics. So you might have to drop some of the graphics settings on the advanced tab as well.

i went ahead and bought myself a radeon hd 4850.

That should do it! Make sure you read the guide in the Tech forums (?) for ATI settings. Basically, if you turn on auto-aliasing, you'll need to turn off a few other fancy features.
