Artists and Commissions

Well last time I checked Gill had a contract people signed when they commissioned him that did not allow them to alter the work in any way (including coloring his linework). The only reason I mention it is that it would suck if through some weird turn of events you had another artist finish one of these pieces and then you were forced to remove it.

Lol, um ok. I drew a rough sketch in pencil and then scanned it in, then drew the rest of it in Photoshop. I painted all the dark pattern over everything with a custom brush that has some transparency to it. Then I gradually pulled the midtones and highlights out with successive layers that went on top. I used a lot of texture brushes to try to differentiate different materials like metal and skin. At the end i painted some highlights/reflections on the side of her body that were in the shadow to help the form pop more.

It's pretty much straight photoshop painting.

How's the custom brush set up? Is there anything other than the opacity that you changed?

I'm not sure exactly what I used. I have a couple dozen that I've downloaded from the web. Usually I just pic what seems appropriate at the moment. Looking at the image I think I might have used two different ones. One gives a random distribution of a blocky shape. The transparency changes based on pen pressure.

The other one was a square brush that has the orientation set to the direction of the stroke and the opacity set to pressuer.

At the risk of enraging The Foo for threadjacking, given the name of the thread, I thought I might mention here of a couple of artists that might not be as known to the CoH art community, since their styles aren't overtly superheroish. However, if you are looking for something a little different, check them out.

HollyBell is really talented, a sweetheart to work with, and she's just started doing simple color $15 character commissions like this . She did this piece for me and she really was lovely to work with. Her style is sort of romantic anime-ish, and she also does Art Nouveau style work.

Ysa is an artist I've enjoyed for awhile who just started taking commissions again. Frankly, the piece this artist did for me is one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen, IMO, and I simply love it. Very easy to work with, and worked very fast. Also a romantic anime-ish style, with a great emphasis on historical costume.

I apologize if this isn't appropriate here, I just know I love learning about artists that are 'new' to me when I read this forum. I have no connections with these artists whatsoever, aside from loving their work, and having satisfactory dealings with them.

I am enraged that no one else is posting about commissions! Also, I'm going to study Ysa's anime colouring style and see if I can steal it.

Well, we can't have THAT.

I'm always taking commissions, and I'm currently running a sale, no less. My DA page has all ze detailz.

I apologize for resurrecting a dead thread, but I do feel strongly about letting other people know about artists they might not have seen before--especially when limited time specials are in the offing.

I just had this piece of the Scarlet Specter done by Bloodredsangre , who does a lot of vampires and the like, but that's not all she does. She's having a commission sale at the moment, and I have to say she worked *very* fast. So check out her stuff.

Again, I have no ties to this artist, I was just happy with my commission and thought I'd let others know.
