A Lost Paradise at Sea (Open RP)
OOC:
Masquerade cast TP foe on Odette, still waiting on that.
Danny yelped and whirled at the sound of Kaze's voice, and the only thing that saved the interloper from an arrow through the eyeball was the fact that the little archer barked his elbow on the doorframe, numbing that arm and throwing his aim off for the split second needed for him to pull the shot up short.
The kid swooped up to the locked door in a blurred rush, not bothering to moderate his movement. "F'r future reference, ye may na' want t'sneak up on folks who are jittery an' heavily armed. T'isna a good idea." he growled at Kaze. Then he glanced at the door. "An' just how're ye plannin' t'get tha' open after I melted the lock partial-like?" he asked, waving a hand at the thin line of molten metal still oozing out of where he'd jammed the Talsorian arrowhead-become-blade into the door.

Morning sleepyhead you feeling better Odette hasnt moved from her position either
but she was definitely awake the whole time and she still looks terribly exhausted.

"Yeah... I am feeling a lot better, but you aren't looking too good. You want to try to get a few hours of sleep while I keep watch?" David sat up and looked at Odette, he saw many things in her eyes, Fear, exhaustion, and worry.
((Since when do Talsorian weapons melt things? Monomolecular != exothermic. ))
"Oh, I caught some arrows a day last week, so don't worry about that." Henteko snickered with a dismissive wave to the hovering Danny, opting not to mention that he candidly meant an entire day, then turned to consider the door, a finger tapping to his chin, "And what to do indeed? So many options, so little time. Oh, decisions, decisions."
His other hand had already been in the process of tapping against the containers of his sneak suit's harness, finally reaching one that the ninja apparently thought acceptable, producing a narrow ampule from the compartment.
"Ahhh, it is perfect." he smiled broadly beneath his mask, eyeing the sleek, transparent container that held a sickly green fluid with the passion of a true connoisseur, "A true work of art."
Without awaiting anyone's approval or otherwise, Henteko pressed his thumb against the ampule's stopper for a few seconds, then held the thing against the door. A near-silent hiss echoed as the shifter cap ate its way effortlessly through the metal, the fluid within the container vaporizing into invisibility upon contact with air. It was gone in no time at all.
On the other side of the door, the now-airborne neurotoxin would most likely take immediate effect, paralyzing even augmented humans in mere fractions of a second, and with only a tiny amount of its constituent particles. Gas masks provided virtually no protection, and indeed not many countermeasures to chemical warfare did against such a unique brand of toxin. Moreover, once in gaseous form, the toxin grew inert within the next twelve seconds, which meant that once the ninja followed through with his plan of removing the ampule, then sticking an optic cable through the hole, the gas no longer presented any threat...
((Okay, we have a little more than 12 seconds to talk before we see what's on the other side. Take it or leave it. ))

Just as Danny had, Alyssa jumped at the sound of another voice behind them. She spun round fully ready to blow him off his feet, but stopped as she realised who it was. "Oh hey, I remember you. Thought you said you didn't have powers, hmm?"

((for whatever reason, I'd always had the impression that Talsorian whatnots were lightsabre-esque energy blades, but guess not ))
Danny gave Henteko a level look, filing away the information for further use. After all, catching an arrow meant that you had to touch it, however briefly... the little Archer had met arrow-catchers before; they didn't tend to do too well when the arrow they snagged blew up in their face, or taser-fried them.
Wordlessly, he watched the ninja-wannabe fiddle with the door, then gave a one-shouldered shrug. "Great. So we've got a roomful o'gas. An' how, exactly, does tha' help us get through th'door?" he questioned. His bow was in his hand, still, and he was scanning up and down the hallway, all six senses as alert as they could be under the continued assault of the resonator.

((Nope, just monomolecular edges. You needs to be stalking Babs moar. ))
"I don't - this does." was Henteko's enigmatic reply, "It's magic. Good question, though. I hadn't thought that far. Oh well. It's a mystery I'll figure out later. By myself. Because you will be dead."
Acid couldn't help but smirk with a shake of his head. Unlike Danny, he'd quickly gotten the gist that Henteko was the real deal; that he wanted people to believe him a would-be not to be taken seriously. He had to admit, it stood generally as a very effective strategy.
He couldn't wait to see what else this guy had up his sleeves...

((by the way, Devious, Danny never commented one way or another about what he thought of Henteko's skills- 'ninja-wannabe' is simply a convenient mental designator for someone who has yet to introduce themselves... and, well... in Danny's experience, being a ninja-wannabe does not exempt you from being ferociously dangerous... remember Sergeant Allerdyced from my "Seriously, Why Doesn't this Ever Happen?" story? Danny thinks he's a Ninja-wannabe, too.))

((oops sorry paradigm!))
Odette looked lazily up at David said on;y one thing, "Thank-"
Odette was instantly teleported to the feet of the man she had worked so hard to escape. She lifted her head as she lay before Masquerade and looked up at the blood red tears on his mask, frozen in fear.
Masquerade wasn't one to waste words or time. He slashed at Odette the moment she materialized.

Violence, fear....
It could sense it all, drifting into the ventilation system from a nearby grate. It hurried over to the source, pressing up against the grating to see where the swell of sensations was coming from.
David reached out and grabbed air as she disappeared, "No Odette!" David screamed. He opened his ears and listened... he could hear it all but he was only searching for one noise. Then he found it, he heard Odette hit the floor and the sound of the slash. "Oh god... Oh god no. I have to hurry." David sped out the door towards the source of the noise hoping to god he wasn't too late.
(Sorry I have been slow on the response Torrent. I have been in Vermont the last couple of days.)

"Same bloody thing, whether they come from you or from some trinket you're still the one wielding them. Anyway, not-so-obscure video game references aside, is it safe to breathe in there yet?" Alyssa didn't trust him, even more so now than when she'd met him in the bar before. Wannabe or not, she got the sense that the man could be incredibly dangerous if she pissed him off.

Danny's patience, never very long at the best of times, was thinning fairly quickly. "If'n 'soon I'll be dead' i' a warnin', then thank ye f'r that." he grumbled. "If 'tis a threat, good luck, ye'll be needin' it, Ninja or no. An' if 'tis some stupid pop-culture thing, get stuffed." he finished, his voice changing twice over the course of his little mini-rant, which didn't improve his mood any. 'Fact of life' or not, it was still embarassing.
All this might have contributed to the mistake he made next. A slight movement at the end of the hall- all-but-imperceptible to most, and clear to Target Lad only because his precognition told him that there'd be a squad of Malta coming down that hall in a few seconds- was responded to with a heavy explosive arrow. A blast wave nearly thick enough to bash Danny back into the doorway he had already banged into roared down the hallway, tumbling the little archer end over end, a wall of noise nearly tangible rang through the ship. Smoke wisped up from charred carpet, and stunned Malta slowly regained their feet.
There were five of them- a four-man cell and their leader. Two wielded the horribly blue-glowing sapper rifles, one appeared to be an engineer of some sort, one was mostly non-descript, and the boss had a ludicrously incongruous cowboy hat perched on his head... although the heavy-barrelled revolvers riding in his holsters were anything but laughable.

Alyssa hadn't run into this particular villain group before and didn't know what those energy rifles did, but neither was she particularly keen on finding out. She swung one arm in a wide arc and a cloud of seedlike objects flew down the hallway towards the soldiers, aided by a gust of wind she sent after them.
Bursting on impact, they released a powerful hallucinogen, causing the soldiers to temporarily forget who their friends were and attack each other. The gunslinger was unaffected by it, but what he was affected by were the thorny spikes the flytrap was shooting at him and the miniature tornado that Alyssa summoned around him. He was flung backward by the intense winds, then picked up and smashed against the wall.
((Incidentally, do malta guys have any protection vs confuse? Or knockback for that matter?))

((well, you can at least post Acid and Henteko's response to all this, then we can pester Sov about taking control of our wandering band of Malta... but really, it seems to me to be a very un-Malta-ish mistake to leave a vital 'control point' unguarded if they're performing a secret mission aboard))

((And a 'wandering band of Malta' doesn't seem 'un-Malta-ish'? Methinks your logic is a little flawed there. Anyways, things as they are, I'm going to wait for Soviet's word on this, and not only because I suspect the 'unguarded' room to be nothing but a death trap for people to fall into. ))

((Back, lol. Hey, I didn't send Malta out to intercept you guys...))
The Malta Operatives that had accidentally intercepted the heroes beat a hasty retreat. They didn't need to run into the group at this stage, and damned if they would.
The heavily reinforced door in front of the group had somehow become unlocked during the brief surprise.

Alyssa relaxed as the last soldier disappeared back around the corner. "Somehow I don't think little old me scared them off, why would they run like that?" She turned to Acid, he seemed to be the expert on Malta so he might know.

Danny stared after the retreating Malta. "I dinnae care that much why th'lot o'sods ran off; but 'm a'for gettin' what we came for 'n'rabbiting. T'is never a good idea t'stick around when baddies ha' seen where y'are."
Having said his piece, he shouldered the door open and glided through- the 'click' of unlocking had reverbrated and rattled around so long in his currently slightly-unhinged-from-time consciousness that it had been kind of hard to miss. Hovering up near the ceiling, he scanned the room rapidly, looking for anything that might be the call button... whilst keeping a wary eye on Henteko.
Unfortunately, the radio panels and satellite connections and radar relays and whatever else was just an impenetrable jumble of wires and knobs and buttons to the boy. "Oi! Y'great lizard git, ge'in here; time's-a-wastin'." he called, worried impatience tinging his voice."

Having established the emptiness of the room via his optic cable, Henteko had carried no deterrents to Danny entering. He, however, did not. Neither did Acid.
"Because they're leading us into one huge deathtrap." the two said in nearly perfect unison, then found each other's eyes wide and staring quizzically, still speaking in stereo, "Whoa, I thought only I was that paranoid. Okay, this is getting creepy..."
Their respective next sentences were thankfully no longer the same, but if Alyssa paid attention, she'd no doubt note they had a deftly investigative nature, for the reptilian cited some regulation of hyperspace while the ninja rambled off a postulate of quantum physics.

"I am not a lizard." the creeps finally broke as Acid stated this deftly, arms crossed before his chest, "Do I look scaly to you? Besides, I don't do the tongue thing..."

"Me?" Harry said innocently, raising his eyebrows in surprise. "Oh no. I'm afraid I'm quite mundane as a general rule. Truthfully, all this talk of killings and such brings me over all jittery. Almost makes one afraid he's in danger of some artistic demise at any second, just for the sheer pageantry of the thing."
He continued to play with the straw wrapper the whole time he was talking, twisting it all around itself in seemingly random patterns.
