*Rides in on carted companion cube*

Mush I say, MUSH! Oh. Hello there! Welcome to the thread Synopsis. ^.^ Let us begin on a high note.

AEIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII!!!!! *Low bow*

There was a time in the RP forum when things were bad. People were being abducted by aliens never to post again. Some peoples’ fingers fell off or had their hands amputated. New threads were always stillborns, dying while still in conception. 

AND THEN THE MAGICAL AND HOLY ORDER OF THE BWERP CAME ALONG WITH A SOLUTION TO EVERBODY’S PLIGHT!  And hence here we have tis thread.

What is the point though? How can the holy church of Bwerp save the RP forums from destruction? Well, because we are cheap bastards who still rely on faith-based tech, we can’t do it alone. We need HELPZ. Like a cow looking at an oncoming train, realization slowly dawned and we gotz the idea!

This is not an open RP thread. This is a STORY thread. Only, MULTIPLE PEOPLE WILL BE WRITING EACH STORY! Two people will get together and write a LONG sequence of events to form a scene. It can be basically about anything. Then, once they have written up their story, two other members of the RP forum team up and collaborate to form ANOTHER long scene. This scene HAS to be in the same world as the last scene, if not necessarily at the same time. You cannot go and write a section of your story off on the planet nebuslot. Everything that is written into this thread via stories can be considered official canon for the universe in this particular thread. Whether this canon passes into other RPs or your own characters’ universes is your own business. What you write doesn’t have to do anything with the previous scene, although it can if you want. The only rule is that you aren’t allowed to interact with or interfere with characters or people who don’t belong to you or the person you’re collaborating with unless you have permission to do so from the owner/s of that/those characters you want to interact with. And, of course, as things progress, writers will cycle with each other. Up until the point where there are more than just two people writing a single scene. Maybe more.

As a matter of fact, as things progress, and as these collectively written stories in the same setting progress…As an eventual goal or task for every person in every story slowly starts to form…As events become tied together and linked through unseen means…Maybe, just maybe, we can convert it into a full blown open RP. By that point, we’ll have already had a background and fully detailed story, we’ll have a plot, interest in the idea, attention, and PROFIT.

*Closes book and smashes it over head*

Pay attention. And that is the story of how the holy church of Bwerp, along with the help of everybody on the RP forums, saved the night. *Day was trademarked.*

Enjoy the first story, written by Mr. Grey and myself. ^.^

Read what follows AFTER having read our story in the 'Cooperative Story Project' thread.

***

After having read through the story posted, I would now like to extend several invitations. Members of the RP forum, if this thread is going to be a hit, we’ll need your help! We need to fill this thread up to the earlobe with stories! If you are interested in contributing, please send a PM to either me or Mr. Grey. Depending on how much feedback we get, we’ll help get writers together so they can work on stories to be added to the thread and the current chain of events.

And, for ease of use, this is a secondary ‘support thread’ we’ve put up for the story thread. For public declarations of your love for our work, or for your volunteering to add work and a request for a co-writer, post here. If possible, please refrain from posting in the story thread unless you are adding a story.

Peace and Leis. ^.^

I approve of this idea.

And hey, Dogma, what's your global name? I'm inviting your butt to Boarderline Insanity.

Statesman said let there be heroes, and there were heroes.

Lord Recluse said let there be villains, and there were villains.

NCsoft said let there be nothing, and there was nothing.

Now that you mention it, what IS my global name? I think it's been ages since I've actually PLAYED the game. Damn silly of me. I'll need to check.

Nice work, but it looks like this isn't going to be quite my cup of cheku. Don't get me wrong, it's a great idea, and will probably benefit a great number of people, but I work better when I can think things through alone and a little bit at a time - like in Worlds Apart, where each part of the story is collaboratively written, but each author still retains personal independence.

However, I'll certainly be reading along.

What he said. Sort of.

I am soooo rooting for this thread to suceed, but I don't believe I will be among its contributors for a couple of reasons.

1. If you couldn't tell by the number of posts under my avatar, I really haven't gotten to know most of you weirdoes yet, so I wouldn't even know with whom to collaborate.

2. I've always steered clear of the Open threads because of the stifling restrictions of only controlling your own characters. When I come over to play, I expect to play with all the toys, both yours and mine.

I will be reading, and who know? Maybe a few more chapters and I might change my tune.

Talk it over with the characters' owner, Corsage. This is a world where we're all one Red Cross Express ticket away from survival, so almost anything goes. If you can come up with a clever reason why your character(s) would be messing with another writer's character, talk it over with them and see if they'd like to work with you.

The idea behind this thread, guys, is that our characters are all living in this world together. This is actually a thread dedicated to telling numerous simultaneous stories.

Yes, it will need smoothing out. Yes, this will take considerable effort. Hopefully, though, we can get a collaboration of stories not just from our own RP boards, but from across the forums.

Heck, I know I'm advertising.

Well, those 'stifling restrictions' are generally in place because otherwise people start having characters that aren't their take actions that said other character would never perform.

Smoke.

However, a bit of communication beforehand (I find the format of 'how would your character react if X happened now?' generally useful) via PM or something will usually allow for an author to write for another person's character, yet maintain that same sense of composition, as if the other character's writer had actually written the reaction.

Smoke.

I've done this on multiple occasions now, and I have to say the quality of the end product is very satisfying. Not only did it allow for an epic fight with a rather unorthodox evil overlord named Diov, but I also pulled the mind of one of Grey's androids into a supercomputer.

Are ya smokin' yet?!

In short, it's pretty cool what you can do with a little communication. Still, I work best when I've got my own part that I can mesh with other people's as things play out, not before they do.

Okay, so my second excuse, er, reason has no legs on which to stand. The first one is still up, though wobbling terribly.

Here's new one (and it's a blatant plug!): I have to finish Operation: Mayhem! I am currently struggling through Issue 9 of what is planned for a 12 issue arc. After it is finished, I'm free for whatever.

Well guys, here's my final thing: In the beginning, none of the stories are supposed to have anything to do with each other. Dogma's and my story is supposed to be parallel to whatever anybody else contributes.

They can still be your stories, and there's no guarantee that anything we put down will ever coincide.

That said, I don't intend to push this on you guys. If you're not comfortable doing it, that's fine. Problem is, Dogma and I will have to seek assistance elsewhere, because if it's just us writing this, well, it's going to be one arc and very, VERY boring. Well, not very boring, but it suffers a bit of a disservice from being called the "Cooperative Story project."

We're not asking you to sacrifice your characters or their schemes and stories. We just want you to communicate more and get all of our characters more involved with each other in a format that isn't as rabid as an RP thread. Look at how most of our best written RPs have gone... That's not supposed to happen here because this is supposed to be a more relaxed environment for presenting the adventures of our characters that's still in a stable interactive format (in that we're interacting with each other without worry for interruptions).

I hope someday you can join us...

Thank you for checking it out, though. Questions, comments, criticisms, what-have-you, please send them here.

That's probably it, heh. I think the way yalls are going about this is just a bit too independent and pre-planned for me. I like interacting with other people's characters on the fly, reacting as things come my way and in return sending things to them.

Take Worlds Apart, for example - there's really the way I like to see this work: some people have their own plots going, others are tagging along for the fun of it, and just about everyone's actions have some manner of effect on the entire resulting story, which means literally no one knows how it's going to end. To take a page from Dogma, will Comedy or Tragedy prevail? No one knows, not even me.

I mean sure, I've got a core plot, but that's dynamic and will depend on what decisions peoples' characters make. Not only that, but even though I am running said core plot, there are several others I have no idea where they're going. Khell's opened up the realm of the Rikti gods - his idea, not mine, and I eagerly await more. Soviet's got a Malta scheme going that'll probably blow our socks off, as I know him. Do I know what it is? Broadly, but the details are a mystery, and that's just the way I like it. Grey's after the Malta, and I've no idea at all where his mind's going with that, which gives me yet another mystery I can follow and have fun puzzling together. Krazy's got some scheme going with Arachnos as well, completely unknown to me, and from the look of it, it'll be something utterly sinister.

And while this may just be me, that's really the format I like most: multiple authors meshing their stories into one another, creating a cooperative composite that at the same time retains the individual essence of each person involved. Is it perfect? No - as you've seen, when people get busy in life, when everyone's an integral part of the story, things tend to slow down. That's okay, though; I never envisioned WA would be moving fast in the first place just due to its nature.

But that's really it. If I wanted to plan out a story in detail and have no sudden crashes into other people as it's progressing, I'd just go ahead and write a story. I like bumping into others and having our ideas mesh as they go. Doing so before they get started...like I said, I'd just write a story if I wanted to do that.

Hmm... Not sure really. I've only HEARD things about you, Grey, although they're all good. I've played with Bwerp a little, and he does his homework and makes good arguments, despite the first impressions he tends to make with his somewhat chaotic style.

I'd be willing to work with whoever is going to be online this weekend. Failing that,
I really want to use one of my Villains in a story, so I'd like a Rogue-isles setting. Was thinking something expounding on that nemesis plot that copies villains and creates full-powered clockwork clones. That story SCREAMS with potential.

Anyhow, I'd be willing to work with anyone that will have me

Nemesis making Nemesis Automatons of villains is a Nemesis plot. But everything is a Nemesis plot, but since this was already a Nemesis plot to begin with, it is a Double Secret Nemesis Plot.

Both me and Grey are usually available during the weekends, and throughout most of the week. I can't speak for Grey much there, but he is very punctual.

I'm still in high school, so I'm only available in the afternoons during the week and durings weekends. My part-time job is online, so I'm usually available around the clock then.
