City of Commercials- Questions

The last few days there's been some serious lag issues with the site, its beyond my control. Things seem to be fine tonight.

As far as folks not being able to play the videos, someone else posted on these boards that they upgraded windows mediaplayer to version 10 or higher and everything worked fine. This would make sense, I've never encountered any errors with either FireFox, IE7, or IE6 (and I've tested plenty) but I do use WMP10 at home and WMP11 at work.

As far as me not being around lately, sorry but new job's keeping me busy and the firewall at work prevents me from seeing these boards except when I'm at home.

Its not that I can't view the videos, although I can't, its that the whole site won't load up right for me.

The only way any of the pages work is if I start to load them. Then if it actually lets me, which is sometimes doesn't, then I have to quickly Stop loading the page before it fully loads up.

If I time it right I have about 10-15 seconds when the site works as intened (just looks terrible since its not shaded right) after that the page still loads in and once its done the whole site locks me out. I can't do anything anymore.

Yeah, that would be the lag. Its been fine all day today for me.

Question - how do you guys plan to make sure that no one has all their friends come in and spam the polls in their favor? (I'm NOT saying that anyone who has entered would do such a thing, but it is a legit concern from other contest-type things I've been in.)

Also, how will the finalists judge the notion of 'commercial'? I've seen some brilliant ads that really tell you very little about what they actually represent, they're just meant to completely wow you and get your attention so you'll look more information up on the Internet or whatnot.

The Poll system I'll be using should prevent that fairly well. It will track IP's as well as use cookies to determine if someone has already voted before. So their friends can come in and vote once for them but not over and over again.

Anyway to make sure we can all vote? I still can't get the site to work for me.

A: We will be judging on 4 aspects. Originality, Professionalism, Creativity, and Commercialism. This is a COMMERCIAL contest, not a music video contest. Make sure that you sell, sell, sell!

commercialism is a big part of our judging. That has been stressed since the beginning

I was wondering if people who posted their video (like me) can vote for other people's videos. Not in the bad way of sabotaging the vote for them. But like some of their videos, I liked and some I thought needed more work. Am I allowed to vote and comment on theirs for public judging?

I did both - I voted on every single one of them, and I posted comments on almost every single one of them. I don't see why we wouldn't be allowed to - it'd be kind of silly to prevent your peers from judging your work...

I was just curious, not saying I do this. But people could go around and give everyone 1's but themself.

To clarify, there is a specific Vote (see the link for voting) and there is rating. You can go in and rate any of the videos you like, and leave comments! I know our artists appreciate them! The official "vote" you can only vote for one video, on both hero and villain side.

Yep it does. I should say I RATED all the videos and commented, but only voted on one.
