Cool, glad you like it, at BAS's request I've added a link to the drawing, so people can download it to practice on. I know you have PSE 6.0, but the buttons look the same... good luck!

First (2) questions as I move through this:

I did steps 1-4-------

1. Now lets say I used a scanned in image of something I have drawn. It sees that as background layer---not layer 0. Is that okay?

2. The layer that I name Base---Now you are using the paint bucket fill tool on that? I used grey.....as an example and the whole screen went gray.

Whatever you scan in, you should click on that layer and rename it "line work" and using the drop down menu, I circled in above that layer, set it to multiply.

If you don't set it to multiply when you paint bucket the bottom layer, yes everything will go opaque to whatever color you drop in. I think you probably placed that linework layer under the base or what should be your background layer.

Remember the line up is:

1) Linework set to multiply
2) Render layer under that, set to normal, or leave it, it should be normal as a default.
3) Base or Background layer, under everything, again on normal. The reason I call this bottom layer base, is because whatever color you drop in with the paint bucket sets the overall "mood" for the piece.

If you drop in bright red, it takes on a whole different feel then say a muted purple or brown. I also call it base, because when you think background, you should be thinking the background "drawn area" of your sketch or drawing... not the color background which is what this is.

Go back and find that pull down menu, and make sure you have it set to multiply. Also you can not color on the Render layer, unless you hide the Flat layer which will eventually be above your Linework (scanned sketch or drawing) layer.

Hope that helps...
