Ok issue 11 is coming and with it comes a guide I've been tinkering with since closed beta. Numbers and percentages of IO's could change of course once ish 11 hits live, your mileage may vary.

ISSUE 11 Version of Bot/Poison Mastermind build-guide.

Many people scoff at this combo but trust me it is very effective and deadly.

I'm not going to add in all the numbers and ratings and percentages, etc of the poison powers. For that I refer you all to my fellow player and fellow poison connoisseur, Poison_Pill.

Also please note that while yes Mid's Hero Planner was used to make the builds in this guide, they come from the unofficial updates created by board members: Lord of Time and Naienko

My thanks to them for their tireless efforts to incorporate the new IO's into Mid's program on even an unofficial status. Mid's Official Update is coming of course and some of the final numbers and percentages in these builds may vary.

Revisions will be made to this guide as needed.

The guide itself and the builds were designed by me and tested as much as possible on the Test Server. This is a guide and not a bible; no one says that you have to use this guide if you do not choose to.

This guide will contain the following:

SECTION 1: My own opinions and evaluations of the Poison Power set. as stated at the start of the guide these are my own opinions and evaluations and are not gospel.

1. Elixir of Life if you are a player that prefers to solo over team, then toss this power out the window. Elixir of Life doesn't work on fallen pets, and also this is a Poison power set......since when does Poison revive the dead? Seems like an oxymoron to me.

Antidote: your pets are bots: they won't need this power as much as other pets would. If you are a solo player you can get by just fine without this power.

2. Poison Trap: where to start? First of all this power is in dire need of being improved by the dev team. Second: its name is totally wrong as it drains some endurance from foes and puts them to sleep...a sleep that is quickly interrupted when you attack them. The Dev team should consider doing one of two things: renaming it to Knockout Gas Trap and buffing its effects considerably, or #2: make this power an exact copy of the Poison Trap from the Traps power set. In any event, Poison Trap from the Poison power set is to be avoided at all costs. Do not take this power no matter what pets you have, this power is a mistake!!!

3. Noxious Gas: I have tried this power with bots but it just doesn't synergize well with them. This power causes a pet to radiate toxic gas that can debuff foes....at close range to the pet. Bots are long range blaster units and it is not often a foe gets that close to be affected by the gas fumes. Also this power takes no specialty IO's and really only needs to be recharge boosted. For a Robot Mastermind this power isn't necessary to have and should be considered expendable. For Masterminds whose pets are more into Melee combat such as THUG Masterminds, then Noxious Gas becomes much more useful to have.

The next 5 Poison Powers are the "must haves" of the set and should be taken as soon as they become available.

Alkaloid 6 slot this power with 2 each of Harmonized Heal, Miracle and Numina. I prefer to use; Heal/Endurance and Heal/Recharge IO's from each set. Why 2 of each set? Simple: Harmonized Heal = 1.5% recovery to stamina recovery when 2 slotted, Miracle is 2.5% recovery boost and 2 Numina =12% regeneration.

Envenom and Weaken.....2 of the more awesome Poison Powers and the staple powers of this set. Skipping these powers is a ridiculous idea. Before issue 11 there were no specialty IO's only standard IO's and Hami-O's to enhance these powers. Issue 11 has now changed this, and poison users shall be very happy.

Neurotoxic Breath....many people think this power is weak....its not. Six slot this power with IO's and watch the fun as targets get slowed down while your bots chew them up with laser fire.

Paralytic Poison: an excellent hold power, this one is also a power that is "must have".


[/b]SECTION 2: Pool Powers to use[/b]

[/i]Fitness:[/i] this power pool is a must have for many characters, and a robot/poison mastermind is no exception. I usually start Fitness at Level 8.

So when you take the Fitness power pool, what to start with, Swift or Hurdle? I'll leave that to you to decide. I tend to prefer speed either for run or fly so I always take Swift.

Fitness/Health is available as of level 14 and I always take this power at level 14 and add 2 slots at level 15. Promotes longer life at early levels and is something of a tradition for me.
With IO's now in effect in the game, Fitness/Health for a Mastermind is now perhaps best slotted with: 2 Miracle (Heal and the unique Miracle+recovery), 1 Numina (the Unique Numina Regen/Recovery) and the Regenerative Tissue +Regeneration IO's. Slotting all those Unique IO's into Health is the equivalent of installing Energizer batteries with jumper cables attached to them that lead into a power generator into your character. Plus 2 slotting Miracle is a 2.5% boost to stamina Recovery, on top of the fact that slotting these unique Heal IO's into Health means they are always on since Health is always on.

To clarify for those that don't fully understand why I advocate slotting the unique Heal IO's into Health, I'll explain. The way they work is that for 2 minutes after a power is used you get the extra benefit from them. Use the power again, and the clock resets. Health however is a passive/always on power.

In a post from UberBuy about Fitness/Health:

"Toggles and passives have a hidden behavior. For however long a toggle is on, and constantly for passive powers, these powers quietly re-activate on timers. In Health, this timer is 10s long. This means that in Health, every 10s the 120s timer of the IO is restarted, meaning it never wears out."

Stamina: this is a MUST have for poison as all poison powers are endurance intensive. Also you would want this for when you face Elite Boss/Arch Villain/Hero/Giant Monster foes. Without stamina you will power down FAST against such enemies. Now granted you might be thinking that once you get the unique Miracle and Numina IO's into Fitness/Health that you won't need Stamina at all. I tried this idea once on Test server. Please note the keyword is ONCE. Said character was quickly rebuilt back into having Stamina, and that is all I shall say about the issue. Stamina should be 3 slotted and now thanks to Issue 11 there are new Endurance Modifier power sets out there. I now use on my bot/poison Test toon this slotting for Stamina: 1 Level 50 normal IO Endurance Modifier and 2 of the new Performance Shifter set. One being an End Mod IO and the other being new 20% Chance for +Endurance Recovery. This power becomes available at level 20 and I always add the slots at level 21. To prolong taking or slotting this power is unwise.

Medicine Pool

Aid Other + Aid Self: taken so that my toon has another way to heal both his pets and any teammates besides Alkaloid, and Aid Self is so he can mend his own wounds since Alkaloid cant be used on ones own self. Also these are powers that can be slotted to give either regeneration or recovery bonus to your toon. Never pass up a chance to boost either of those.

Leadership Pool
Maneuvers....Once I considered this to be the "red headed step child" of the Leadership powers, but now this power is very useful since inventions came out. Slot this with 4 Luck of the Gambler to provide 10% regen boost, health increase and 9% accuracy boost to all powers. Also if you are a Thug Mastermind, you'll find that the leadership powers mesh very well with the leadership given by your Tier 2 minions

Tactics: new to hit buff Inventions are part of issue 11. Among them is the set Rectified Recticle which contains a Unique IO that increases your characters Perception by 20% for 120 seconds. So as long as Tactics is activated this power is constantly in effect and the timer on it resets. Turn off tactics and you still have 2 minutes of enhanced perception. Nice to have for PvP zones or if a PvE foe uses a smoke bomb or mind attack to cloud your vision.

Assault: well not much to say about this. It boosts damage done by your pets, by you and by any teammates and their pets. Just slot one endurance reducer into it and be done. Don't bother putting any more slots into this power, there are no special sets for it and you cannot slot damage boosters into it.

Vengeance: if you are someone who prefers to solo or only teams on rare occasions, then this power should be discarded. You cannot use it on a fallen pet, so it's useless to solo oriented players.


Travel Power

Well there is and always will be debates over which travel power is better. For me, I guess I'm just more of a "traditionalist" in that I prefer to Fly. While not the fastest power, it certainly can be considered the safest. Just fly at high altitudes in the zones and then dive towards your mission door, thus bypassing hazards and dangerous foes.

Hover: I slot this with Karma: Knock-back Protection. It’s a mag -4 protection from Knock-back and is in effect at all times. Hover also burns far less stamina then fly so you could hover around shooting poison at enemies, and enjoy the defense conferred by the power itself plus the protection from Knock-back.

Fly: best slotted with 2 Freebird inventions: one for speed the other for +stealth so that you are cloaked while in Flight. You also get 8% regeneration from 2 Freebirds slotted. If you can get a Hami-o that boosts flight speed and cuts down on Endurance use from the power then devote a third slot for it.

Group Fly: ok if you are primarily a solo player then consider taking this power as your final power choice. While not always useful there are times when flying robots can be useful and flying robots look pretty cool with their boot jets flaring as they fly around. Simply practice moving the bots around with a GOTO Macro while they are in flight and be sure to always be near them so they don't drop to the ground after being out of the anti-grav field you radiate with this power. If you are more team oriented in your playing of the game, then either skip this power or prepare to be hated by your teammates if you use it.

SECTION 3: Patron Powers:

For the most part, the patron powers are essentially same among the Patrons. There are some differences of course, such as Black Scorpion's armor power being Defense power vs. the other Patron Armors being resistance armors.

Ghost Widow was my choice for a Patron and I think her powers synergize well with Poison. your choice of Patron is of course, your choice

Ghost Widow's Dark Embrace: a resistance armor power. I simply slotted the unique Aegis +Psi/Status Protection into it and the Impervium Armor IO for 3% Psi resist.

Ghost Widow's Soul Tentacles: an excellent immobilize power. Its IO slotted for recovery boost and immobilize augmentation

Ghost Widows Soul Storm: an excellent hold that goes nicely with paralytic poison


SECTION 4: Robot Power Set Choices

The power choices from the Robots Power set that you need are: Battle Drones, Equip Robot, Protector Bots, Assault Bot, and Upgrade Robot

To summarize: your robots are killing machines, pure and simple. You point them at the targets and they blast. Forget about such things as Defense, Heal or Knockback IO's for the robots; Accuracy, Damage and some Endurance Reduction are what is needed. Yes that’s right I said Endurance Reduction. Once you have the Upgrade Robot power at level 32, your robots become fully armed and operational, meaning more firepower. More firepower equals more stamina usage from them. The Protector Bots can and have run out of endurance on some missions of mine at lvl 32 and above until I slotted some endurance reduction into them.

So what to slot them with? Well there are some interesting invention sets as well as the standard inventions that don’t give slot bonuses. One important thing to note is that slot bonuses from sets do NOT transfer to the pets themselves only to your Mastermind. This may or may not change in the future.

Also I am a fan of the Mix and Match philosophy in regards to inventions. While some powers benefit from slotting all of one set into them, some others benefit from mix and matching. For pets I prefer to mix and match using the following formula:

Slot 1: Pet Aura IO
Slot 2: Brilliant Leadership: Acc/End
Slot 3: Brilliant Leadership: Accuracy
Slot 4: Blood Mandate: Acc/Damage
Slot 5: Blood Mandate: Damage
Slot 6: normal Damage IO to bring damage up.

What are the bonuses? Two Brilliant Leadership gives 4% regeneration to your Mastermind and 2 Blood Mandate gives 1.5% to stamina recovery.

What is the Pet Aura IO: there are 3 of these in the game at this time. 2 of which are nice. They are: Edict of the Master Defense Aura which provides 5% defense to all of your pets, regardless of which pet you slot this with. The other good one is Sovereign Right 10% damage resistance Aura to all pets regardless of which pet you slot this IO into. The third pet aura IO is a Taunt/Placate resist Aura for the Pets only. If this were to extend to the Mastermind as well then I'd grab this in an instant, but as it stands that Aura IO isn't useful. Also it should be noted that the aura IO's are the same regardless of the level of the IO itself. So a level 20 version is just as good as a level 50 version.

So the Battle Drones and Protector Bots are slotted with the above formula thus providing the following: (Provided that you are using maximum level IO's from the sets, Brilliant Leadership caps at 40, Blood Mandate goes to 50)

Accuracy is boosted by 87.3%
Damage is boosted by: 96.7%
Endurance discount of: 24.13%
Plus the Aura IO that applies to all your pets, and yes the Auras do combine.

Assault Bot is slotted with:
Slot 1: Accuracy IO
Slot 2: Brilliant Leadership: Acc/End
Slot 3: Brilliant Leadership: Accuracy
Slot 4: Blood Mandate: Acc/Damage
Slot 5: Blood Mandate: Damage
Slot 6: normal Damage IO to bring damage up.

Accuracy is boosted by 99.7%
Damage is boosted by: 96.7%
Endurance discount of: 24.13%

When to take the Robot Powers from the power set? That’s easy: AS SOON AS THEY ARE AVAILABLE! You are a Mastermind and your pets/minions are your strength.

Battle Drones: taken upon character Creation. You gain a 2nd Drone at Level 6 and the third one at Level 18

Equip Robot: Available at lvl 6. Take immediately

Protector Bots: Available at Level 12 Take Immediately. You gain a 2nd Protector Bot at level 24.

Assault Bot: Available at Level 26. Take IMMEDIATELY!!!!

Upgrade Robot: available at Level 32. TAKE IMMEDIATELY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SECTION 5: New Inventions with issue 11

Now we get to the goodies from issue 11. Before issue 11 there were no specialty Invention Sets for defense debuff, hit debuff and hit buff powers, among others. Hence Envenom, Weaken and Tactics had to rely solely on Hami-O's or standard inventions. Well not anymore: new sets are introduced and are quite nice.

However I must be a kill-joy for a moment about one thing about the new Defense Debuff and Hit Debuff IO sets themselves do NOT contain an IO that boosts Accuracy or the Range of the Power. They are at this time strictly boosting the debuff effect along with recharge and stamina usage or combinations of the 3. So these new Invention sets are a mixed blessing but are indeed well received by me and others I have teamed with.

So how would one slot them? Well in the end that is up to you. Some players I know have opted to 6 slot the new Dark Watcher's Despair and Touch of Lady Grey Sets, and that is fine, to each their own. But again, there is no Accuracy or Range booster IO's in the set and thus they are dependent on Leadership: Tactics and any Set BONUSES they have to boost their accuracy of their Envenom and Weaken powers.

Well with respect to them and others, this one time that I shall forego 6 slotting an entire set as I'd like to have an accuracy IO slotted into these powers. After all, what good is poison if it doesn’t hit the target? Answer: no good.

So the new sets for Envenom and Weaken that I have used with excellent results are: Touch of Lady Grey and Dark Watcher's Despair. Below are their current set bonuses:

However: after evaluation and thinking it over I have opted to omit the 6th component from these new sets. Thus I am omitting the Touch of Lady Grey 20% chance of Negative Energy Damage and Dark Watcher Despair 10% chance of –recharge to your foe. I have opted to use one slot in each power for an accuracy IO and then 5 slot with the other set IO's from these sets. So yes I have forfeited 11% accuracy to all powers and a 3.75% psionic Defense….however as I stated above, invention set bonuses do NOT transfer to pets. Hence that 11% accuracy bonus I have tossed away would only apply to my poison and patron powers, however the builds that come later in the guide still will provide an overall accuracy bonus. Again, opting to not 6 slot these sets was my own choice, feel free to make your own, but I like having some accuracy in each of my powers apart from set bonuses.

SECTION 5a: NEW SUPER-PURPLE INVENTIONS

Ok so what are these? These are special invention sets that some powers can now equip once they are crafted. These provide some serious power boosts and nice set bonuses but before you all rush out to try and get these, please take note of the following caveats and addendums (or perhaps best phrased as: Power Comes with a Price)

1. These can ONLY be slotted by a Level 50 character. However, their set bonuses are supposed to be active no matter how far down you malefactor your character, even to level 1.
2. They are UNIQUE Inventions: so you can have only ONE set of each of these new sets in your character. Mastermind Pets have a new set called Soulbound Allegiance, but as it's a unique set, you can only slot one full set into one pet power. Yes you could slot 2 components of these sets into different powers and reap the 2 slot bonus however I am not entirely sure that is a good idea. More on that later.
3. They will cost 600,000 infamy per set component to craft.
4. Some of them will require some rare/expensive salvage to make.
5. These sets emphasize POWER and the repeated usage of said POWER. They don’t necessarily emphasize accuracy.


Now then let us talk about the new Super Pet Set: Soulbound Allegiance.

Here are the specific components to the set:
Damage (Superior)
Damage/Recharge (Superior)
Damage/Endurance (Superior)
Accuracy/Recharge (Superior)
Accuracy/Damage/recharge (Superior)
Chance for Build up: this is about a 20% chance for your pets to build up/power boost themselves for their next attack to augment the accuracy and damage.

Now look at all those damage boosters in the set….nice huh? Notice though that only 2 components deal with Accuracy and they are dual or tri components…..not so nice. Here below are the current percentages for 6 slotting this set:

Accuracy: 59.63%
Damage: 103.45%
Endurance Discount: 33.13%
Recharge: 89.93%

Now that is nice damage and nice endurance savings for the pets that are slotted with this. That recharge percentage though seems a tad high since it effects the recharge rate of the summon power and doesn’t seem to effect the firing rate of the pets themselves. The killer is the Accuracy percentage. Here are the current set bonuses that you receive from this new set:

Soulbound Allegiance
+16% Regeneration
+36.2 (3%) HitPoints
+4% DamageBuff
+MezResist (Held) (Mag 4.4%)
+5% Defense (Psionic)

So now comes the questions: should I 6 slot this set and which pet do I choose? Should I break the set up and 2 slot each into my pet powers?

Starting with the third question about breaking the set up amongst your pet powers and thus gaining the 16% regen boost 3 times over: yes I am a fan of regeneration boosts; however I don’t believe it wise to split this set up amongst your pet powers. Look at the set bonuses again: regen boost, hit point increase, 4% damage boost to your non-pet powers, 4.4% resist to holds, and the beauty of the set 5% psionic defense. Psionic protection is something to rarely ignore. Your optimal choice is to pick one pet power to slot all the set pieces into, which leads to the next question:

Should I 6 slot this set and which pet do I choose? I've tried this set in its entirety on Test and I liked it. While the accuracy percentage left something to be desired, I found that by 6 slotting this set into my BATTLE DRONES to be worth it. Why the battle drones? Simple: they are your first pet power, and while the set bonuses are supposed to carry with you no matter how far down you malefactor, this particular feature of the new IO's is reported as bugged at this time, and if there must be a pet that has less then preferred accuracy boost, it should be the Battle Drones. Once drones are fully upgraded at level 32+ they gain a turbo-strafe-salvo attack that does very well, hence I can live with them having slightly gimped accuracy boost percentages, and again: set bonuses do not apply to the pets only you, so don’t think you can six slot your assault bot with this new set and turn it into a juggernaut, it doesn’t work that way.

Other SUPER-PURPLE IO SETS for a Bot-Poison to look for:

For HOLD powers such as Paralytic Poison: UNBREAKABLE CONSTRAINT, unlike Soulbound Allegiance for the pets, this set does contain components that help Accuracy as well as provide an accuracy set bonus. The Set Bonuses are:

Unbreakable Constraint

+4% Recovery
+2.52% Res(Fire, Cold)
+15% Enhancement(Accuracy)
+10% Enhancement(RechargeTime)
+5% Resistance(Toxic)

For IMMOBILZATION powers such as Ghost Widow's Soul Tentacles: GRAVITATIONAL ANCHOR, unlike Soulbound Allegiance for the pets, this set does contain components that help Accuracy as well as provide an accuracy set bonus. The Set Bonuses are:
Gravitational Anchor
(Soul Tentacles)
+4% Recovery
+2.52% Res(Fire, Cold)
+15% Enhancement(Accuracy)
+10% Enhancement(RechargeTime)

SECTION 6: Robot/Poison build for players that like to Team

Ok so now comes the part where you can see the build ideas for Bot-Poison. The following is for those that prefer to work on a team. Vengeance, Elixir of Life and Antidote are part of this build since they are powers that benefit the team. Elixir and Antidote are late in the build since I felt it more important to have the robot powers, travel powers, leadership powers, fitness powers, and other poison powers as soon as possible. You Mileage may vary. Also in this build I inserted the super-purple IO sets for hold and immobilization but not for pets, for those that don’t have the Purple Sets yet for Hold or Immobilization powers, use these sets instead: Ghost Widows Embrace (for holds) and Trap of the Hunter (Immob). Overall set bonus totals will change of course if you use those sets.

Also of note that I should mention: Mid's Hero Planner at this time doesnt seem to factor in the special bonuses from the Unique Heal IO's into the overall set totals at the bottom of the builds.

So under set bonus totals, whatever numbers you see for the total regeneration, please add: 20% from the special Numina and 25% regen from the special Regen Tissue. For Recovery's total add in: 10% from the special Numina and 15% from the special Miracle.

Also for those that wonder why Envenom and Weaken have only one Accuracy IO, take a look at the Set Bonus Totals at the bottom and add that Accuracy Bonus to the Accuracy slotted into those powers.

Just wanted to say Noxious Gas is actually a really good power for EB's and AV's. Putting it on the Assault bot and using the goto command is how my Bot/Poison has solo 35+ Avs/Ebs.
You might want to rethink the part in the beginning about it, it's really useful.

Just to follow up support there with a personal anecdote:

I recently hit 38, and was pretty disappointed with Noxious Gas at first. I tried a few times to buff up the old [censored]-Bot, and send him in, but the range was woefully small and enemies would run out of it, while my bot just stayed where he was firing from range. A mission or two later, I finally found a use for it, though: Noxious Gas makes a great alpha strike when you can't use your other debuffs. I sent the powered up-Bot into the face of a big bad Longbow Officer who had already melted my entire force three times with a single Full-Auto. With Noxious up, though, it gave me just enough time to get the boys in position and hit him with my more substantial debuffs.

Noxious Gas isn't going to be the most oft-used tool in one's arsenal, and it may not lend itself to long time use, but it's great when you need to find yourself an opening.

I've tried that method and while mildly useful, its frequency of usage combined with the fact that you still even with issue 11 cannot slot any form of debuff's into to it to boost its ability made me opt to toss it.

To each their own. Thug Poison of course has a better use of the power with their Tier 3
