How long should someone wait for art?

Well sometimes what I do if i 'win' a free piece of art I offer to donate something (starting with 'mo' and ending with 'ney') so it becomes more like a commission slot so that way it won't have to be 'botttom of the barrel' . of course more often than not I still end up waiting forevers

See I knew I'd stir up a brouhaha.

I'm in full agreement that the artist's priority needs to be communicated up front. That way there's no inflated expectations.

So may I ask a related question... what happens when a commissioner drops off the face of the planet? I've had it happen *eyes Hyper* and I'm left going "Waaaaaaait you forgot your aaaart!"... Unless it's only in sketch stage, then I'm stuck wondering where the person went to? D:

Hee, well you PAID is the thing. I sat here with purdy prints goin "They have no home. Sad homeless art!" But in a few cases, people paid half or whole and then they disappear...

That's why I'm kinda against the pay half thing. Pay full or none in my opinion. The artist is the one taking more of the risk, should get paid totally up front. Yeah there is that chance that the piece will take a lot longer than originally though but that happens less often than the commissioner never paying and the artist having wasted their time.

And sayterra...
This is for you!

My only response to that video is... This.

Not because it's relevant, or anything, just, after that advertisement, the only way I could maintain any sense of sanity was to watch a bunch of space castaways get completely schnockered.
