How do you know it means they're gay? maybe rainbow sherbert ice cream has the exact properties they need to power their machines, which includes highly advanced safe boxes 
I have forgotten that rainbow sherbert was in fact advanced technology that I must destroy in order to give Vanguard a fighting chance.
