Heya guys!

June 1st issue of the City Scoop (issue #3) was the debut of the fanart section headed up by yours truly and I wanted to know what ya guys thought of it!

City Scoop - Fanart Section

Any comments,Crits, suggestions or whatever comes to mind i am totally open to. I have some more things lined up to beef it up a bit but i wanted to hear all your feedback as well.

When i was invited to join the Scoop and do a Fanart section i was only to happy to get onboard. Just another way i can contribute to and support all you great artists and give a little back to this great community. Also if ya wanna and you've done art this week just post up a link and the date in this thread so that i can get ya in there!

Yay! The Fanart community is finally recognized!

I think the Interview With the Artist section is great, and Scarfy's an excellent choice for the first interview.

I also like that one of her pieces was featured right next to the article. (Although, as the Featured Artist, adding another, different piece of hers for comparisons would be cool, too. )

My concern, though, is that, in this issue, you had chosen eleven (did I count that right? Eleven?) pieces of art for the "This Week in Art" column, as well as highlighting two contests. Obviously, you wanna advertise as many contests as you can because it makes it more "interactive" and fun for new potential artists, but I think you may want to limit the pictures chosen to about four or five, and possibly describe things about the picture/artist you really like.

Also, I hate to say it, but, with as small as the Art Community is here, it won't be long before you're recycling artists to fill in columns, if you have too many featured pictures per week, and I think some people may get a bit jaded seeing the same styles week in and week out.

My suggestion, basically, is to highlight a few pieces each week, with diverse styles, to keep it "fresh." Just my 2-inf.

This is the kind of feedback i wanted thank you Aerones!!

In response it's funny you mention that because Sass said the same thing when she was helping me proofread it but just looking at my gallery i have plenty of artists to space it out with alot of unique styles as well so i figure that can work out decently.

Also Scarfy had 3 pieces posted in this issue but they are spaced out throughout the issue not just the Fanart section but i think that number should rise a little.

I like the idea on limiting the number of pieces linked up for the week though and i will probably do that but i didn't want to be biased or seem like i was choosing favorites so i posted em all.

I have something coming also that will add a lil to it i think. Another aspect of our fanart community thats near and dear to my heart! I think that will add more art as content without putting all my eggs into one basket sort to speak!

Thanks again for the feedback man! This is what i need from you guys! This is all about representing this community and it belongs to all of us, i am just the guy who puts it all together lol.

I agree with what Aerones said, while I am honored to have been included in the list... I can wait to be interviewed Congrats Scarf!

I enjoy the City Scoop even more than the bi-monthly comic books! **runs from Devs**

Great section. It's fantastic to have something that includes the community again.

And grats Scarfy!!!!!!!!!!

<.< >.> I lost intrest in the comics when blue king stopped doing it ...it was just goofier and more fun when they did it

I'd love to see contact information for the artists as not everyone will have a Deviant Art page

The City Scoop has been a great addition to the community. It would be incomplete without including the many wonderful CoH artists!

There are some artists who have been commissioned that aren't "community" people, so they would be good to fill out things without the danger of running out of the artists here be listing art by a number of them at one time, kinda like Aerones mentioned.

And if you run out of the talent, you could do some art collector types.

Well, let me preface this by saying that I couldn't draw stick figures properly even if it was connect the dots. So I am a complete Noobito.

When I went to art school, I was always fascinated how artist put their pieces together. Some start off with charcoal or pencil drawing and some develop their pieces in stages and why some aspect of the piece were creted prior to other aspects, I learned a lot of great hints from just the little things that people told me. I would like to know how CB creates his pieces, to how MR. Shuler goes from screenshot to final piece, without giving away certain "secrets" of course.

I would like to know what materials or programs they use to create pieces. I had one teacher that would only touch a specific thickness of canvass or she wouldn't even waste her time. Some use several different size pencils and whatnot.

On pieces like some from MR. Shuler or MR. Bates, how do they deal with depth perception/perspective, how do they get their backgrounds done so well. What is their philosphy on how a background in a piece helps accentuate the hero? Etc..

As for artists, there are lots of comic book artist out there aside from the awesome ones we have here. Some probably dont even play COH, but I am sure we can benefit from their experince and skill. Didn't someone just post a link to Comicon? I would buy you a bottle of Jack if you could get John Byrne on here. Who outside of the COH community inspires our artists...

Ok the peanut is done here, but if you want... find out what they drink too

Awesome man!!

I think that the devs will actually like hearing that as they are getting rid of the comic. Funny that, I had a subscription once they started charging and was there for the beginning of the Blue King comics and only ever recieved 5 of em total lol. I like the Scoop better as well!

Great to hear ya like it brother, i'll see what i can whip up to make it better in the coming issues!

Some great imput man and i intend to put those questions to use as well. I think I might extend it to 20 questions to be able to get into it a little more with the artists as i am going to now limit the week in art to 5 links. Thanks for the great direction man I had been thinking of asking those type of questions but needed to hear that someone would actually like to read that! LOL

As for the 'outside' comic artists i was going to make it a point to give that a shot! I am not sure what the higher ups that edit my interviews would say about it but it would be awesome if they let me huh?

Oh and i'll try and slip in the alcohol question here and there man lol

Keep the feedback coming guys! I love it!

Yeah, I think you run the danger of over exposure and running out of people with so many links. The solid interview is a great focus, and maybe that person could suggest who inspires them out of the community.

We do so much work in a month, that it's hard to keep up unless you're an avid fan or collector. If not for Deviant Watch, I'd miss tons of inspiring works by Juggy, Graver, Doug Shuler, man the list is soooo long... thank god for my daily deviants! That's like opening up the paper for me with my morning coffee. What did Liz, Alex, or Celtic do today?

Hows the best 5 of the week sound then?

Yeah, this great. And I can't think of anyone better to do this than CoH's premier art...erm...collector.
