Possible CoX Miniature character

So, because I LOVE painting miniatures. And occasionally I need a break from all of the monotonous army painting, I will pick up a random blister pack with a cool looking model.
Today was the Dark Elf Assassin from the GW line. If someone gives me a neat looking hooded/robed figure, I will paint the model in that scheme, and perhaps even do the entire army in that scheme.

Lighter base colors will not be accepted as easily unless the costume instills badassery in me.

I have a good amount of hooded characters, but the only one that could match that is Dark Kerse . Dark colored, hooded with cape. The blade even works since ive been trying to work in a weapon for him, a shadow blade. Dont know if its anything like what you were thinking of, but just throwing it out there.

Yeah, I'm going to ReaperCon in May.

There, I will sit in with master sculptors (THE masters, like Sandra Garritty and Bob Ridolphi and Julie Guthrie) and learn some better techniques for conversions.

The ReaperCon 2007 Sophie is sci-fi this year, complete with a massive BFG. I think she'll lend well to conversion so I plan on picking up several.

And then I get to browse the bits bins. Mmmm, bits of pewter metal goodness.

Oh, and for those who don't know, Reaper is starting a new line of pre-painted plastic, but you will be able to see what you're getting before you purchase. This will make conversions fun.

Sanda Garritty did a line called Silver Age Sentinals. It was small, and I think Reaper did the casting, but I could be wrong. They are superheroes, and should still be findable, although it has been a few years.

Your character, Dark, would be a fun one to try out, with all of the freehand I would have to do to achieve the effect on the cape and chest, it would turn out beautifully. I have the model built, and as of now, it has on the right hand, a claw, and in the left a dagger.
Painting a 'shadow blade' would be great practice in ethereal and non metalic metal painting for me.

Are those metal or plastic?

I'm weird about plastic. I prefer metal, but those do look good.

Metal, but not the highest quality, so you do have to be careful how much pressure you're putting on them, I think all of them I've done I've had to bend the base back to perpendicular on them because I held them by it while adjusting stuff.

But hey, at $3 I don't feel so bad about getting a pair of wire cutters and lopping off hands and heads and such :7

If I ever get caught up on my Warmachine painting, I'll do a few of these for people

Try holding them under hot water for a few seconds before bending them. This softens the metal a bit so there's less chance of breakage.

Or just cut the bases off and re-base on something cooler or more useable. I do this a lot when I'm going to be doing basework.

What a friend of mine does to all his minis, is temporarily glue the base to a bottle cap like a plastic bottle has. Makes it much easier to manipulate.

>_> he owes me a figure. Or just... alric! I want my ... figure chick. the one with the staff. or ... whatever she looked like. lol

I use a variety of things for figure holding, from wooden thread spools, film canisters (which I have a ton of), to those plastic dice boxes you can buy some of the Chessex in. Pretty much whatever is stable and will hold the mini, but also dependent on size. If it's a CAV, then I have to go with the larger, heavier holders since those things are so heavy.

But, I also rebase them so I can get better effects. Railroad style flocking/grass/snow/water effects/greenstuff/sculptey, whatever works to get the effect I want. Of course, compared to some of the people I hang with, I'm pitiful.

Already have a large selection of SuperFigs.
I really liked the look of the Dark Elves, and will be slowly building an army for them while I finish my Dwarf and Chaos (and Space Marine) armies. I looked at the Assassin model and thought, "that looks a little bit like a City of Heroes costume."
