Behind the Mask: Lemur Lad

They call him Lemur, Lemur, faster than lightning,
No-one you see, is snarkier than he,
And we know Lemur, lives in a world full of wit,
Flying there-over, over the boards!
Everyone loves the king of the boards,
Ever so mean and witty is he,
Smack talk he will do when morons appear,
And how they cringe when he's near!
<<appoligies to the person who came up with the Flipper Theme song>>

Well here he is the man, the myth, the flying monkey lover. As always keep things on topic and no flaming.

So tell me a little about your self? Your current age, where you live, etc.

I am *counts on fingers* 34 years old. I live in Maine. It's been cold here this winter. Haaaaaaaate cold.

Do you have any pets?

Approximately 4 fur bearing thumbless creatures in the house, yes. Not counting me.

Do you have any borthers and sisters?

No, the world is safe, my mom came to her senses.

What is your favorite movie?

Favorite? hrmmmmm that's hard. Too many. I recently re-watched Zulu and North by Northwest, among literally hundreds, those two stand out. I can't even narrow down a favorite kind of movie, I like them all, even a lot of sappy couple movies.

What is your favorite type of music?

Much easier choice, They Might be Giants. Also a band called the Glengarry Bhoys.

Who is your favorite author?

John Steinbeck or Isaac Asimov.

What is your favorite series of books?

Older: the Robot novels by Asimov (the Baley/Olivaw detective stories)
Recent: the Wee Free Men and Hatful of Sky by Terry Pratchett.

What is your favorite Simpson's quote?

"Ralph: That's my swingset, and that's my sandbox. I'm not allowed to go in the deep end. And this is where I met the leprechaun.
Bart: Right, the leprechaun.
Ralph: He told me to burn things."

So how did you get introduced to MMOs in general?

My friends played EQ and I never did. So when they started in SWG I joined them. I like scifi better. I was pretty instantly addicted and played for over 2 years unti SOE and the dev team destroyed the game.

So how did you get introduced to The City of series?

I was lost in the wilderness after swg. I needed something to fill the hole and some of those same friends were playing here. I was a really tough sell this time though. It took me a long while to become the "raving fanboy" I get accused of being in the forums.

Who was your first character and do you still play them?

My first character was a conversion of my favorite Champions character, Golden Boy. I had to compromise on the name to Goldyn Boy. Some may recall that as my global for a long time. Lemur Lad was my 4th or 5th character, but the first one I really "clicked" with.

What, if any, powersets would you say are your favorite?

Plant Control without a question.

What ATs or powersets do you hate and why?

Hate is such a strong word. There are so many I haven't played yet, and several I'm not terribly interested in playing, but I don't dislike them. I will say there are a couple I've tried that weren't as much fun because they made the game seem harder for me as a player. Force Field is one. Empathy is a another. But I don't "hate" either one, they just didn't work out when I tried them.

What is your favorite zone in the game and why?

Hero side- Striga Isle. Dude, there's a giant volcano base, what's not to love?

Villain side- St. Martial. I love Casino row, and I love the Golden Giza. I wish there was more interesting things going on there, but I love the look of the zone.

Any particular story arcs or contacts that you love to do? Even when you have done them a million times already?

Doc Buzzsaw!! Always and forever every time I can manage it!

What is your favorite feature of the game?

The sidekick/exemplar system. Makes playing with friends so much easier.

What was the most amazing moment you had while playing the game?

This will sound like I'm talking out of my [censored], but every day is a little amazing. There's always something that makes me smile, and that's in large part due to the people I see and talk to. Thank you everyone.

What is your favorite enemy group?

The Rikti for their storyline, but Nemesis and Freakshow are close seconds

What is your least favorite enemy group?

Carnies bore me or annoy me. The only story I liked involving them was Viv Verandi's

What is one feature you would like to see added to the game?

I posted this idea for a Freaklympics Strike Force If there's anyone who hasn't read it yet and likes it, feel free to necro the thread. (shameless plug).

What would you say is your greatest strength in the game?

My intense focus on what I'm doing (most of the time)

What is your greatest weakness in the game?

My impetuous nature can get helpful teammates in trouble.

If you were any AT in the game which one would you be?

Dominator. No, not for that. Get your mind out of the gutter. Because they are so wildly variable and unpredictable.

With I9 "Breakthru" almost getting here, what feature of it are you most looking forward to?

Pat answer would be Inventions because it will be the thing I end up doing the most, but truthfully I'm excited for the Villain Hami Raid the most.

How bad is your badge lust?

Not as bad as you might think. I slack. I really do. I do have a lot of alts that I tend to collect on out of habit, but there are still several I could get pretty easily on my main Hero and Villain that I haven't yet. Me r teh lazy, if you didn't already know.

Which ones do you like to get the most?

I like the stories I get to remember with certain badges more than any one badge. "Hey that's the one I got the night I met Tsugaru" "That one was the first time I hunted with Beef's villain" "That's the one where theBejeeber (forum buddy shout out!) forced me to stand there and entertain her while she went and killed stuff for me" All fun times and fun stories. The badges are just gravy.

What one lesson would you learned in game that would be helpful to share with everyone else?

Read the stories for the missions you're doing, if you're running a contact. The game feels a lot less like a grind if you know the story you're playing a part in, and if you try to imagine your character in it. I don't get bored with this game, because it's not me doing the same mission for the fifth time, this time it's this character doing this mission and he is thinking.... that's how my head keeps it alive for me.

Anyother advice you would like to give to new players and other players that are learning the game?

Make friends, that's the best gift this game will have for you. The people you meet make things so much more interesting than any specific mission or AT.

Any final things you would like to say to everyone before we go?

I'm a straightforward person. A lot of times that means I say things people think I mean hatefully. I don't hate people, I just have a low tolerance for people who aren't willing to think and do for themselves. If I say something and you think I'm attacking you, stop me and ask me what I meant before you let emotions take over and get angry. A lot of times I will say something and then realize after I was too harsh. Other times I'm just really subtle and the meaning gets missed. But I'm almost always willing to stop and explain myself. I like almost everyone I meet. I like them enough to be honest with them. If you think that through, you will see that means both the good and the bad. It's not malice on my part, and it's not a lack of empathy, and it's not my ego. It's just me being who I am without apology.

Thanks Pinnacle, Good night!

Another nice one Teldon. Lemur lad, you and I do the same thing to keep missions from getting old. As a plus for me I normally play with a group of real life friends from all over the country. With some missions we have done over and over we develop running gags which keep popping up no matter what characters we are playing, a personal favorite is one involving Mimi Van Horn. Do you and those you play with also develop such running gags, and if so which is your personal favorite?

[/ QUOTE ] Yup. I play with friends a lot, and we do that a lot. Coincidentally, I recently got back in touch with some old college friends, and found out they play CoH. I've had a couple sessions with them again, and it's like old times. In real life I've actually had entire conversations with a friend in "running gag speak" It works great for saying thing's that their wive's won't instantly understand (I'm single but I have a lot of friends who have fallen ).

I think though for me, the best running gags are the one's that transcend the game. For example when I met up with those college friends again. It's been about 10 years. When we were together, we used to play all sorts of different RPGs. One campaign was Shadowrun. Our group we called Bink Inc. As I remember, we used to cause our GM headaches. We ended up instituting a series of rules for dealing with different situations. Rule #1 was "Whatever it is, Don't." which quickly got shortened to "Don't" or "DON'T!" or "Don't you knob!" depending on the circumstances. Well when I met these guys again and made an alt on Justice to hang a bit. I got an SG invite to Bink Inc. And I looked at the SG window, and right there in the motto screen was "Rule #1- Don't" It kinda brought a little tear to my eye seeing that (as well as a series of flashbacks).

So, I think the answer is.... yes?

I have other favorites too, many with friends I've made since, however I thought of that one first, and it qualifies as an oldy but a goodie.

Hey don't go knocking sushi now. I mean I know raw fish isn't for everyone, but some of it is quite nice. Plus do you want to bring the "I want a big red (beach ) ball" fans down on you? I sure wouldn't.

Let's all post our favorite memories of Lemur Lad!

Lemur Lad, my favorite memory of you was when I accientally held and/or hurt you with a rain attack during the pageant. Partly because that's the only time I've ever played with you, but mostly because you didn't get cranky at me for it. You're not as snarky as you come off as, Mr. Fancy Pants.

If you want a snark duel, we can take this out back...

I started trying to make an ASCII lemur for you but then I got up to get something to drink and didn't care any more when I came back. So.. sorry. I was thinking of you, though.

In Soviet Russia, ASCII art draws you!

that's sweet of you to say. I'm not even motivated to try and start an argument about how "accidental" it was

Fun times.

No he has not posted since December. The same issue with another old BtM thread happened awhile back and I forgot what Ex did to it. Hopefully it will work again.

I was just wondering about LL last Saturday... I was at the National Zoo and walked past the lemurs in the small mammals building. They were way cuter than his avatar.
