Awesome work! You could also do some neat stuff in GIMP or paint.net both are free programs. GIMP is close to photoshop, people say. I own both(GIMP and paint.net) and love them!

Another quick example. This one didn't take nearly as long (probably about half the time of the BG one). I didn't bother to get rid of the sketchy-ness. Also, you may have noticed my... erm... ineptitude at backgrounds

I must say, your skills with MS Paint is very very very good. Awesome pic. As others have said: Go check out Paint.NET. It is also a very good program and I think it is a fair "light-weight" substitute for Photoshop.

So this is all mouse work or are you using a tablet in MSPaint?
All mouse work, don't own a tablet or a scanner right now. One must make do what one has, yah know? 
I've been using MSPaint since when I'm bored it's easy to open up, kinda like a sketchbook . I'll check out this Paint.NET though, see what the fuss is all about....
Was doing a little messing around in MS Paint earlier (I left a small present for Thor's Assassin in one of his numerous threads). Needless to say, artistic inspiration struck and I believe this is my best MSPaint masterpiece yet (My Blaster):
