Derek's Art Thread - Does anyone care about it?
Figured you put it there for critiques and 'volunteer' subjects.
I'd say, keep drawing, keep posting. Just because no one's knocking your door down is no reason to put a "We're Closed" sign up, neh?
Besides, I like your stuff, it's a lot better than my feeble attempts.

Seconded. I say keep at it
*edit* I cant type :/
It's not really a closed sign, I'm just trying to see if anyone cares.......
Thanks, that helps cheer me up.
I can't tell you how many times I've put up a big update and haven't had one comment.
Keep going.
Yah, definately keep going. And I don't go berserk on the BAS drawings you do as much as other drawings, because I have like 10! ^_^
Oh, and also, I posted about this once... Ehehehe, that was a bad decision
but what I learned from it is that people don't always have time to comment, they don't live on the forums, like us. They say "Oh, thats really great! I see he's greatly improved" and moves on, waiting for the next piece to show up. So just cuz you don't get responses doesn't mean they don't care.
Scarf_Girls Official Kid Brother!
Hehe <^_^> Lemee splain something Derek - cause I know *EXACTLY* how you feel man >.<;
Simply put >.< and this is no fault of your own - you're learning! - people of course, gravitate toward better artists.
It's not that they don't care - but I think its harder to critique someone who's work is still very new and at the more basic stages >.< The reason its more difficult is multifold - one being, "How do I say 'you need to do this' without making you feel like your a horrible artist?"
Another is, of course, that people just like looking at better stuff >.<
Again - that's no fault of your own, its just the way things tend to go hehe <;_;> I don't get alot of response either unless I put out something tres impressive - and its just because there are a *ton* of good artists out here.
Don't let that discourage ya though >.< I think just about everyone likes you <,< and I don't think anyone thinks you're really 'emo' lol >.< that's just a running joke <^.~> you're a good guy. Keep practicing <^_^> you've got a ways to go (so do I) - but people will pay more attention the better you get.
One thing btw: I learned this the hard way >.<
(And Feral Kat <;_;> PLEASE don't be mad at me, this isn't your fault at *all* >.< not one bit)
But don't confine all your work to one thread.
The longer a thread stretches, the harder it is to keep up with the art <x.x>
Here's the solution I found:
Put your 'junk' (ie: low-end WIPs, sketches, etc...) in your big thread of doom
Put your *BIG* pics - the ones that took alot of time, effort, and you really feel proud of - make threads for those pieces all on their own!
A piece on its own tends to get to stand on its merits, and doesn't get bogged down by the 30 or 40 pics before it in the thread. (It's easier to comment on that specific pic if there aren't a zillion more).
Sooooo <@_@> Simply put, keep working, try new means of getting your stuff to people: and on the requests thing >.< I just today got my very first request >_< I've had some color work requests before, but this is the first flat out art request I've *ever* had.
I've been at it since I was 16 (seriously), and before that I drew since I was 5 (as a hobby)... so... it takes alot of time <;_;>
You'll get there though <^_^> Practice practice practice, listen to advice and uhm... practice >.<
Also: Count pageviews. More views = more interest! Just because people didn't reply didn't mean they didn' tlike it <^.~> that one is a hard lesson though <x.x>

to me, personality is worth more than art. you can be the greatest artist with a bad personality and sooner or later you'll lose the interest of others. but if your work is ok and getting better but your customer service is great and you greet ALL with a smiling personality, people will flock to you like mad.
Don't get into pity mode and don't get into hate mode and all will be fine.
but then, what do I know, I got flamed here a few days ago. maybe I deserve it, maybe I didn't. who cares.

Yeah, Derek, I'm surprised you don't know about the biannual "Co* Meet-Up". It's a social event every July/December where posters/players meet up and...talk. If ya know what I mean. *wink* Either way, we all get to know each other really well.
(Shh! Don't tell him it's not real!)
What that has to do with Screenshots and Fan Art is anybody's guess.
You had said at one point you weren't going to be drawing for other people too much anymore because you wanted to work on your comic, thats why I haven't asked for anythinig. I like your style and I like seeing the things that you post!
Well, yes, I'm doing it more idly now. But I'm still at it.
...couple other thoughts on the matter. dont sweat getting hits. the idea being that you are posting to share. that not everyone and their dog replies is a given...heck in my own lil thread most of the past are my own. lol
also...I suppose I cant stress that you should most definately keep drawing. as squirrel mentioned, you still learnin (as we all are) and as such becuase you dont get the thread hits like Darkjedi or Gill dont be discouraged. indeed...drive on...draw even more. in time, the hits will come...trust me, especially if you keep at it.
in regards to threads...personally...I like 1 thread for it all. the exception being (as previously mentioned) for them really big special projects...or pieces that came out amazingly well. doing this keep a majority of your work in one area and doesnt spam the forum in general.
....as I said...just a couple more thoughts on the matter. keep that pencil drawin Derek...definately seeing improvement since you first started to share with us forumites. ~

Well, my first attempt at Wintermauler was posted and not one reply was made. I'm still going to finish him. I'm just trying to figure out how best to approach my next attempt. And if you really want to practice drawing and need some subject, feel free to draw any of the characters currently linked in my signature. To note there have been a few changes on that list and I haven't updated it yet. As for your thread, keep it going or start a new one, but don't give up. If you love art, then keep drawing, regardless of what else is going on. I made that mistake myself of letting other people's art and opinions get to me and now am almost terrified to draw and become overly frustrated when I do.

Seriously, does anyone care if I keep it going or not? I barely got any requests, and barely anyone seems to care about my art (If you can call it that) anymore. No, I am not emo, and I'm not joking. Does anyone care, or should I call it quits, and just draw my own characters and stuff?
Everyone else's art seems to be liked more, talked about more, put as avatars, put in sigs, etc etc, and mine is just kind of... left there. Sometimes people comment on it, but not very much. So, does anyone care if I keep my art of you guys going or not?
EDIT: You know, does anyone care about my art at all?
