Pictures automatically downloaded to my PC?!

Okay, well there really isn't a good place for this to go, but this is the art section so I thought it'd be best...

I was defragging my computer and I noticed that one of the files it was moving was a peice of artwork I had recently viewed on Deviant Art... but I didn't save the picture or anything... so why should it be on my computer? When A webpage is loading and it says "downloading images"(or whatever it is that it says) is it actually downloading something, or is it just loading the picture to the page? I certainly don't need CoH fanart that I'm probably only going to look at once in my entire life taking up room on my already-crowded computer!

I'm wondering if anyone knows anything about this? Is there some way I can just delete things like this off my PC so they don't take up space? Thank you.

Temporary Internet Files.

IIRC, your computer downloads a lot of stuff, especially images, to make repeated web browsing to sites that much quicker. You can reduce the size of your internet chache through your web browser.

Yep, Val got it right.
It's good to clean out your temp folder every now and then.

How do I go about doing this, then? Sorry, I'm not much of a computer softwere person... although I could probably build a computer if I needed to...

Everything you see on a website is saved to your temporary internet files folder. This was mainly used for dialup connections to speed up website browsing by not having to download everything on the page again.

As it has already been stated, it really is wise to clean out your temp folder on a regular basis. Addiotionally, if you have a broadband connection, which I assume you would, I would recommend lowering the allowed space for your temp folder. This way you won't have to clean it out. I set mine to 1 Meg, which I believe is the smallest you can set it to, but it may depend on what browser you are using.

EDIT: Posted slow, didnt' see your response. What browser are you using?
