Techwork, an unlikely hero. How many stories start this way? A lot, but Techwork wont admit to it, not because he thinks he is original, but because it simply isnt something he would talk about.
First named Gasket by the Clockwork King he most resembles the original model for a Telsa Prince. The reason his line was discontinued and the Current Telsa Prince line is the one heros and villains alike see is for one reason and one reason only. Free will. A free will was given to Gasket so in the unlikely event he and any cogs he was in command of were separated he could get them back to where they needed to be. Without this Gasket would simply stand around with his cogs, only reacting to those who came near him, so if he became cut off, he would pose very little threat to anything but those within arm reach.
When the clockwork nearly got control of what they were after the heroes fought back even harder. Gasket had been ordered to destroy an orphanage to prove a distraction for the heroes. With a building housing many children falling to the ground, heroes in the area would have to either save the children and ignore the ground fighting, or ignore the children and lose the respect of the people they serve. As Gasket rumbled up to the door of the building a little girl walked out. Bare foot, and covered in debris. She didnt say a word, but gasket could see the look of despair in her eyes. Another Telsa Prince shot its arm forward and the girl crumbled under the electricity it shot out. In that one moment Gasket knew the reason he had been created was wrong. He destroyed the Telsa who had killed the girl. He ripped off the power coils that produced the electric shocks from his own frame. Then he went to find the king
No official document was written about the fight between the Clockwork called Gasket, and the King, it was rather unremarkable, Gasket managed to put a few solid hits in before he was simply overwhelmed and given a power surge. It fried most of his memory core, but the image of the little girl standing their asking for help with only her eyes was forever burned into it. The clockwork in a rare showing of respect Tossed Gasket at the doorstep of the orphanage and ignored it. It was the only building in that block to suffer no direct damage. However this wasnt the end for Gasket.
The children has seen what the automaton had done, defended them against those that looked almost exactly like him. Several of the larger boys and girls dragged him into a shed after he had been left to rust on the doorway. Several of these teens were in votech schools where they learned mechanics and computer repair. The school systems sent these unwanted children to these schools because they usually couldnt earn enough money to send themselves to college, and with some skills like these they could get good jobs and live a respectable life. The children worked for months on the hulk. Eventually they restarted him.
A rumble, deep from within stirred in what was his designating? Turning on his optical receptors it saw many small smiling faces around him. shhh its alive. Holy cow its working. And they said tech school was for losers. Lets put stickers on it and show it to head mistress. Itll need paint as well. I got dibs on the first ride All these things were said at about the same time. He only heard. Its techwork He rumbled and stood. I .Tech .work you .friend .. little girl friend .live After that labored sentence he sat again.
The head mistress was rather unhappy, to say the least. When the police sirens were heard the children rushed to the shed. The oldest, and in fact the boy who had fixed his core processor spoke. Listen Techwork, hear those sirens, always run from them, always. You are a good guy now, but they wont understand. Listen Mary and Jake made you claws out of other clockwork parts left over from the war, you can extend them when you want, extend them if someone tries to hurt you. Techwork, this is your mission, you have to always defend children, until they can defend themselves. ALWAYS, got it. Now go fast, before they lock you up and try and destroy you.
Techwork was seen in Atlas Park for a few months after that, but the Paragon police eventually cracked down on the area. The heroes saw him as harmless, but to an average human he was just another clockwork. Soon after the crackdown Techwork went missing. Until today

It is my place to stand.
We few shall carry hope
Within our bloodied hands."
